Homemade hot oil treatment
Heat a high quality extra virgin olive oil in the microwave or on top of the stove until it is warm to the touch. Make sure it is not hot, just warm. After you have heated the oil, separate your hair into sections and use a cotton ball or even your own fingertips to apply the oil to the driest and most brittle parts of your hair. Avoid using too much oil on parts of your hair that are not brittle. Do not put any of the oil on the roots of your hair next to the scalp. Your roots get plenty of oil from the glands in your scalp, and putting oil on your scalp could just make it oilier. Make sure you do not put any oil within at least one or two inches from your scalp.
After you have applied the hot oil, wrap your entire head in a plasctic shower cap. Wrap a towel that is heated around the shower cap on your head. You can heat the towel in a clothes dryer before hand. Plastic saran wrap also works if you don't have a shower cap. Leave the covering on your head for at least 30 minutes.
If you find olive oil to be too heavy you can substitute sesame, avocado, almond oil, or jojoba oil. Make sure it is top quality though.
