Virginia's Covered Bridges
Virginia has a number of covered bridges scattered throughout the state. A couple are on private property, others have been turned into historic landmarks by the vision of local folk and some help from the state. Well, being interested in these seamingly insignifigant archtectual pieces of history- 'Simba' and myself set off on some day trips over the spring and summer  to see those still in place.
This one is Humpback Bridge near Covington,VA. Just off I-64  west of Covington on old route 60. Easy to find, has a nice wayside with porable toilets, picnic area.- just a nice stop while on a road trip. Humpback and Meem's Bottom bridges are the two largest in the state.

These two. left and right are Bob White and Jack's Creek bridges. They are within a few miles of one another near the little community of Woolvine. Woolvine is on Route 8. Route 8 crosses the Blue Ridge Parkway at mile mark 165.35. Great roads all around this area.
Sinkling Creek bridge is located several miles off 460, west of Blacksburg,VA. Tucked away, back up in a hollow. There's information there about a couple other lacal covered bridges that are located on private land nearby as well.
Meem's Bottom bridge is another one close to the interstate. Located just off I-81, it's the only one  still rated for vehicular traffic.
