TABER'S QUARTERS Son of Kaazha and Torque, and looking quite the stripey youth. Susceptable to most psionics, with extreme senses and a bit of the Sengihr crazies, Taber is also light on the cat mutations with a tail and feline face, and the Kshau spines, with only two spines on his arms. His skin is slightly furry and has russet color with light green stripes near the spines, as well as on his hair, metallic violet brown hair, and his eyes change with his moods. He is able to sense and locate any mind and life within about 500 miles, and is able to adapt into any environment. He can control pain and fire equally well and often combines them in an attack. He is a big fan of fast things, and likes to ride sturdy steeds when he can. His quarters are spacious but low-ceilinged, and brightly lit. He has many video viewers scattered around the walls, and he runs recordings of old Zekiran races, and modern (whatever is available) ones from their other resting places. Wherever a race has been held and recorded, he has a chip of it on record. |

Flik danced around the stable, and whinnied excitedly. Today was a race day! Taber would not be riding her - there were others aboard the Zekiran ship who were smaller than he and would be best on Steed back. The other Steeds of the ship were lined up, and they were told not to cheat. That never stopped them before, of course. Today, it looked like Flik was going to beat everyone just by her excited prancing around. The race got underway - the half dozen Steeds and their small immortal jockeys bursting from the starting gate and into the ring. Each vyed for space, and most of them had wings that had to be tucked down or else they would use them to fly. This was not a flying race - that hardly mattered to most. Bokboy was about to lift into the air but Flik nipped his tail, then took that opportunity to jump ahead of him in the standings. They were about to turn the first of several wide corners, when a big noise and shadow eclipsed the arena. One of the dragons had found their way in? Here?! A number of stunned looking Zekirans watched as Neres Storm blasted her way through the trees and over to the arena. "You never let me race!" She bellowed at Tresis, who was oddly enough enjoying himself at the race. He suddenly wasn't enjoying it any more when Neres stood directly in the way of Flik and the rest. The Alicorn couldn't stop in time, and ploughed right into the Black Glenn dragon's side. She didn't mean to, but her horn tore a small gash in Neres' scaley skin! Neres Storm was livid, becoming true to her namesake. But Taber rushed to the side of the track, and waved his arms. "Stop it! Stop her! She's going to kill Flik!" He yelled. Tresis narrowed his eyes and commanded Neres mentally to cease and calm herself. By now, the other five Steeds had managed to either run into, over or around Neres on the track. Their riders were furious - mostly at Tresis, because he hadn't controlled her urges this afternoon. She always threatened to eat their other animals. But not today. Neres looked at the fiery Alicorn, and nudged her with her long muzzle. "I'm sorry. I guess I'll go now." The big black dragoness turned and carefully lifted her wings, ready to go back into her own flight dome quarters. Nearly everyone there was stunned into silence. Taber rushed over to Flik, and saw that she was all right, her rider was okay but had a numb butt from having hit the ground so hard. "Neres, why are you acting like this?" Taber asked the dragoness, "you know this is the Steed dome. You're not supposed to come in here, none of the dragons come in here." "We never get to go anywhere any more," Neres sulked, loudly. The area began to heat up - she was about to blast fire at something, but Taber ... stopped her. With his powers oriented to flame and fire, he whipped away the blast as soon as it had cleared her muzzle. "And now I cannot even breathe flame! That is what I am SUPPOSED to do!" She wailed. "But not in here!" Tresis shouted as he came near. "Neres, you've been out of the ship several times. There are no flights at the Den right now that we are participating in. And you've seen some of your offspring on their own homeworlds. Can't that be enough for now?" "NO!" She bellowed right back. "We are bored - all of us dragons. Kaazha's at the Den with Jaffs, and Vanya and Ruarth are out with Victory and her pair. Wisdom and Elmay and Ezust and me, we're bored." "What about Raindance?" Asked Tresis, half interested and half sure that he'd hate the answer. "He thinks we're all being silly. Him and Ref are both like that! But we want to see another dragon!" Taber looked at the tall pale skinned Tresis, and shrugged. "That's what this is about. They're not breeding here, but they want more on the ship." He looked back at Neres Storm. "You know we don't have infinite space aboard the ship. We'll have to stop taking on new dragons eventually." "You could stop taking in those little fluttery steed things," Neres muttered, angrily. "Or you could come to this world, we've been getting closer to it. I know you have talked about it, Tresis," she got a look begging Tresis to believe her. "It's true," Tresis said, looking away. "But that doesn't mean there is anything there for us." "There are GLENN dragons there! I KNOW it!" Neres yelled, causing several of the more sensitive Sengihr descendants (taber included) to cover their ears or wince. Viridia finally showed up, she was busy in the navigation rooms and not at the race. "She's right, there are. It's a small colony, but it's got eggs." Viridia confirmed. "Why don't we take a break from travel, and relax there for a while. If we bring back another dragon from there, it's okay. We still have the space." She took a warning glance from Tresis, and then rolled her eyes. Turning back to Neres, and then oddly to Taber, she said, "but not much, and not for ever." Taber helped clear away the debris from Neres abrupt entrance, and then rubbed down Flik while the others were putting the Steeds back into their quarters. Viridia hung around him, noticing how he'd continued to watch Neres, and how well he handled her emotional outburst. "You'd make a good pair for a dragon like her," Viridia said, and Taber laughed. "Not like her, please not another one like her!" He said, sweeping fur and feathers off his clothing. "When are we getting there?" "Very soon, I've signalled them so they know we're coming. They might worry if all of a sudden half a ship full of people, and a handful of dragons, start coming out of the sky." "I would," Taber said. "I guess I'm going then, down there. Do you really think I would make a good rider?" "I think so. You're quick on your feet and in your powers. And don't think I haven't noticed how many of these races you and the others arrange - you're bored out of your mind." Viridia sighed, "we all are. Until we find a planet to colonize, we're going to be like this." "Ahh," Taber said, "we'll always be bored - we're immortal. That's what I've been told, anyway." He grinned widely, and went down with Viridia to the docking area to catch the shuttles. |
