Chapter 1

-Invasion-

1

The dark, cold sky had no clouds at all. The wind blew fiercely at the tree branches all over the kingdom of Zahra. A tall figure was standing near the tallest tree, his cloak bathed in the full moon’s light. The fierce wind made the odd figure’s cloak fly as the desert’s sand moved as if it was alive. A few moments later, a tiny man quickly made his way to the tall figure’s side.

“I’m sorry, my lord!” said the tiny man “I was kept in a meeting with my troops. They are ready, we attack at dawn!” he continued, his shaking voice resembling a squeak of a rat.

“Patience, Agnahim. You must keep your troops ready for my command. I do not wish to attack tomorrow...” said the tall figure, his cold, cruel voice causing the smaller man to flinch.

“But, my lord! You said it yourself when we last met! The sooner, the better! What if Harkinian discovers our plan ? He can have us both killed!” he sounded almost desperate.

“No. Agnahim, you must listen to me. You and your troops attack in three days.” Continued the taller man, calmly.

“But.. lord Ganondorf! That is the engagement dinner at the castle... why don’t we..” Agnahim continued, even more desperate

“That’s exactly why it must be in three days. They won’t be expecting it.. Now you must go back, before someone sees you here in the desert. Naborou is loyal to Harkinian.” The man named Ganondorf ordered, forcefully this time.

“Yes, my lord! In three days, we will have our revenge! Luongoria will finally take over Hyrule again. Hyrule, Zahra and Luongoria will be one again!” he stated before he bowed and vanished in thin air.

“I wouldn’t be so sure, Agnahim..” said the Lord, as he began to laugh, cruelly.

Ganondorf’s cold, evil laugher echoed in the winds...

                                                             2

The winds carried that laugher over mountains, and through forests until it reached the green fields of Hyrule, where it dissolved. The sun was rising like pure gold blinking under lake Hylia. Birds where singing and flying towards the most beautiful mountain crater. Gorons worked in their blacksmith city. Zora’s Domain was empy, since it was the season for fishing, and the castle town market was even noisier than it was the whole year.

People everywhere where excited about the coming engagement party that was about to take place in Hyrule Castle. Princess Zelda, King Harkinian’s daughter and heir to the throne, was going to be engaged to Prince Protomien, son of King Alberto, ruler of the nearby kingdom of Phalagya. King Harkinian was working very hard as a ruler; Soon, Hyrule was going to unite forces with Phalagya and with the desert kingdom of Zahra, whose leader Ganondorf, of the Gerudo tribe, had great influence in many kingdoms. Hyrule, Zahra and Phalagya where going to be one, and with that, the tree kingdoms would enter a golden age of prosperity.

The only thing that seemed to be the problem was the kingdom of Luongoria. The king of Luongoria, Agnahim, was known to be a powerful sorcerer. He wanted to take over all kingdoms and rule alone.

Rumors said he was planning an attack against Hyrule soon enough, but the hylian citizens knew the troops were very well prepared for that.

A huge royal Caravan was entering the castle town market. Royal trumpets announced their arrival. The main wagon was made of a dark stone that resembled marble, it was very rich in details of pure emerald. It was probably where the King, prince and princess of Phalagya were travelling. There were also two other smaller wagons, that probably brought supplies and clothing. All the market salesman and women had stopped to watch. The wagons were pulled not by horses, but by white creatures that resembled dragons. There were men and women, probably maids and soldiers, on top of each creature. Phalagyans were very different from Hylians. The men were very tall and strong and the women all had blue hair. Hylians where normal sized and all had blue eyes. A hylian with different eye color was considered very rare.

Near the entrance to the Temple of Time, a 20 year-old girl was selling milk and eggs. Well, she had dropped a basket full of eggs when she heard the royal trumpets. She was completely taken by the the beautiful creatures that pulled the royal wagons.

“Hey Link! Come take a look at this” she said as she shook her long, black braided hair from shoulder. “Quickly! Or you’ll miss it!”

A blond 17 year-old boy emerged from under the rented balcony where the milk boxes were stocked.

“What? The Phalagyan idiots have arrived, is that it ?” he asked annoyed “Really Navi, you shouldn’t wake me up for that kind of thing!” he continued, trying to keep himself from yawning.

“Link! Mind your manners! Inside that wagon is the future king of Hyrule!” she said excited “He is going to become engaged to Princess Zelda in three days... I heard they are going to have a large party at the castle, and only the leaders of the tribes and their families are invited... I wish I could go...” the girl named Navi told her friend

“SERIOUSLY Navi... believe me, you wouldn’t want to go to a royal party... its all full of royal highnesses and you have to keep bowing all the time.. “ said the boy called Link

“But I’ve seen Princess Zelda on the weekly temple gather... she doesn’t seem so bad.. maybe this “royal people are arrogant” stuff is just a rumor..” continued the girl, as she begun to collect the milk bottles.

Nah.. they are all the same...” Link stated as he ,too, gathered the milk from the balcony.

“Come on cousin, we need to get back to the farm... get things ready for tomorrow..” he told Navi.

They gathered the eggs and the crops they had not sold and took off.

                                                               3

“Your Majesty, King Alberto of the Kingdom of Phalagya!” announced the Sheikah messenger, as the old king entered the throne room in Hyrule castle.

He was a tall man, with long strong arms. He was a bit overweight ever since he had become king. His bluish-white hair was even whiter then it had been since the last time he had been to Hyrule, suggesting that he was having a hard time with the pressures of the kingdom. He stopped as if waiting for someone.

Your Royal Highness, Prince Protomien!” the messenger announced again, now as a young blue haired, tall young man entered the room. He stopped next to his father, facing the king and bowing. He was certainly a handsome young man. His well built chest involved in an armor with the Phalagyan army, giving him an air of importance.

“Your Royal Highness, Princess Lavinia!” the messenger finally said as a young woman now entered the room. She was also very tall, just like her father and brother. Her long blue hair danced behind her as she made her way to join the party.

The young Sheikah bowed and left as King Harkinian stood and greeted the newcomers.

“Goddesses, Lavinia, how have you grown!” he said as he kissed the woman’s hand. “Alberto, welcome, my friend!” he shook the old man’s hand.

“And...”he continued “My future son-in-law...” he said as he hugged the young prince. “Welcome all of you! Dinner will be served in a few moments. Now, I’m sorry Lavinia and Protomien, I have to talk to your father about the uniting ceremony that will take place soon after the wedding 6 months from now..”

“Please your Majesty, tell me where Zelda is..” the young man asked, not able to contain himself.

“She is waiting for you in the courtyard, dear boy... Lavinia, Impa will guide you to your bed chamber.” He mentioned the Sheikah that had just walked in the room.

Prince Protomien walked in a fast pace towards the courtyard. There was more than one of course, but he knew exactly where she was waiting for him. In her courtyard, the most beautiful courtyard he had ever seen. It matched her beauty.

Zelda was very unusual, even for a Hylian. She had violet eyes, unusual. She had the most perfet skin, very pail, no freckles at all, unusual again. She had golden blond wavy hair, unusual, at least for a Hylian. She was tall and strong and she had some kind of passion inside her. She didn’t even act like a Princess.. That was what he loved about her. She was so... different.

He finally got to her courtyard, it was already early night. She was there, by the small fountain, looking at her reflex in the water. As soon as she heard him come in she ran to his arms and embraced him.

Protomien, the love of her life. They hadn’t seen each other for a few months, but for Zelda, it seemed like they had been forever apart.  She missed him so much. She loved him so much. Her heart was finally filled with joy once again, and she could finally feel safe. She felt his strong arms holding her back. Zelda carefully rested her head on his strong chest, slowly closing her eyes and smelling his scent.

She could still remember the first time they met.. it had been three years before…  as soon as she laid eyes upon him, on his well built figure and blue hair, on his dark passionate eyes, she was completely taken. She remembered she had had no idea he was her betrothed.

‘I’m lucky’ she thought. Not many Princesses had choices, and nor did she. She just happened to fall for her father’s chosen one.

“I missed you so much Protomien...” she said as she looked passionately into his dark eyes.

“I know… It’s seems like it’s been forever…” he said, as he gently drew the lines of her jaw with his finger.

‘She is beautiful’ he thought as he caressed her cheek, still holding her tiny waist with his other hand. He slowly leaned closer to her face, while lifting her chin, finally kissing her passionately. A kiss that could last forever.

ummm...” a sweet voice said before they broke apart. “I’m sorry, but the dinner is served” announced the Sheikah girl

“Yes Mariele, we’ll be there in a minute..” Zelda told her, she she nodded and left.

“So.. how was your trip ?”she asked her fiancee as they started towards the dinning chamber.

“It was tiring... but it was worth it..” he said as he stopped and looked at Zelda.

He hadn’t paid attention to her elegant violet dress, that matched her eyes, or to her hair, that was tied in an elegant bun.

“All of this is for me ?” he asked playfully

Zelda laughed at this and started walking again. She was happier than she had been in a while. She had been too worried with dreams she was having. She was sure it was a  prophetic dream, and it had been haunting her for the past couple of weeks. Her dream showed Hyrule in dark times. She had never been wrong with her prophecies before, but she wasn’t sure if this was a prophecy. Her prophecies were very specific. And this time, she couldn’t even tell who would try to take over Hyrule. She shook that thought off her head as she entered the dinning room with her love.

                                                               4

“It’s just a rumor Harkinian!” said king Alberto as he paced around the chamber of meetings. Running an impatient hand through his mane of white hair.

“I know, I know” said the king of Hyrule, mimicking the other one’s actions

“So why are you so worried ?” he continued to tell his friend “The Luongorian King won’t do it, if he hasn’t attacked yet.. “

“My Sheikah messengers say the Loungorian troops are heading this way... now tell me Alberto, why ? Why would they be heading this way if the rumors aren’t true ?” asked Harkinian, as he stopped and hitting the oval table.

Alberto just looked at him. He was right. Why would Agnahim lead his troops all the way to Hyrule if he wasn’t planning to attack? The real question was when he would do it…

Knock. Knock.

“Come in” said the king, as he regained his composure.

“The dinner is served your Majesty.” Said the Sheikah that had just appeared behind the door.

“Yes, thank you, Makar... We can finish this conversation tomorrow Alberto...” he said as he led his friend towards the dinning room.  “Just think about the matter, please…”

The two kings made their way out of the dark chamber, leaving the conversation unfinished. It was the thing Harkinian didn’t like about Alberto. He knew the next time they came to that matter, he would have had enough ideas to convince him he was right. But something about the news the Sheikah warriors had brought, something that was keeping him on edge.

                                                                5

“Link! What happened ? What are you doing here ?” Navi asked her cousin as she sat beside him, on the grass.

“I had a bad dream... a horrible dream Navi… In my dream Hyrule was in a dark age... and there was a girl...” he stopped. He could feel tears in his eyes. “She looked like Medli...”

Medli had been Link’s girlfriend. The girl he had sworn to protect and to love for eternity. They had been young, 16 by the time they had started their relationship, but it was so strong that he was sure they both thought it would last forever. They had even made plans for the future. Link used to say he wanted to have as many kids as he could care for, and that he wanted them to be as beautiful as Medli was. He wanted them with the blond hair, and the rare violet eye color.

Medli had been a sweet dream in Link’s life. But he was awaken. A lethal sickness took her away from him in the blink of an eye. He would never forget the day he had gone to see her, and was told about how she died wishing he was there, holding her hand, and how she wanted to see him one last time.

If only he had had the money...

After Medli had been diagnosed with the disease, Link had learned everything he could about it in order to try and save her. He learned that there was indeed a potion that was the cure, but the ingredients where rare what made the potion price absurd. Link had worked hard for the two months that followed, trying to earn the potions price, but it was useless.

The disease consumed Medli fast, as it consumed her family and him. They knew nothing could be done, but he had never lost hope.

Link could feel his wet cheeks.

“It’s okay to miss her.. I know you loved her very much...” Navi comforted him. She laid a hand on his shoulder, gently squeezing it.

Navi.. I wonder if we are going to earn money someday... If we are going to have a better life.. If we are going to leave this place..”

“Hey there… You make it sound like it’s a bad place to live... I thought you told me rich people were all snobs...”

Link laughed at this. “Yeah, I did.. But we wouldn’t be snobbish.. we would help the poor, and not be like Harkinian… the amount of taxes he makes us pay…”

Navi looked at Link. ‘poor kid’ she thought. Loose someone so close to you at such a young age. She remembered still how her cousin suffered for the young girl he once loved.

“One day Navi.. I promise you... We are going to leave this place...” said Link, his eyes resting on the full moon.

                                                                  6

Princess Zelda... the cold voice said, before a maniac laughter invaded her ears…

Zelda woke up in a rush.

“I know that face...” she told herself. “It’s him..”

She quickly undressed her nightgown and dressed one of her daily dresses. She concentrated really hard since her breathing was quickened and she felt as if she was about to faint. A purple light came of her hands. She looked at it, as if it were a person and then spoke very clearly: Father, I need to speak to you now. Meet me at the meeting chamber.

Zelda made her way out of her comfortable bedchambers, and down the granite stone stairs that led to the castle’s ground floor. The long, dark hallway was cold and deserted. The young Princess couldn’t help but shiver at the sight. She wasn’t feeling safe in the safest place in the kingdom. The grand torches that usually lighted up the corridor were all put out, and there was no guard to be seen.

Zelda quickened her steps, carefully not to fall. That corridor seemed to be longer and longer with every step she took. She was startled as she heard a noise, coming from behind. Zelda’s breathing rushed through her kidneys as she started running desperately. It was only her imagination, she knew it. There was no way anyone could have invaded the castle. Her heart raced with her breathing. Each step she took now, would begin to close the distance between her and the meeting chamber.

She finally arrived, closing the door behind her. Zelda’s breathing was heavy. She couldn’t take her eyes off the chamber’s great wooden door. She began walking backwards, not glancing away from the only way in the room. Something touched her shoulder before she screamed in fright.

“Zelda! Calm down… it’s me… what’s gotten into you child ?” Harkinian said, looking worried, as he led his only daughter to a chair.

“It’s nothing, it’s alright… I need to talk to you father… please sit down…” she said slowly, her face regaining it’s original color after looking ghostly.

“What is it Zelda ? I certainly wish that there is a good reason why you would wake me up in the middle of the night.” King Harkinian asked his daughter.

Zelda knew her father would think it was a complete nonsense what she was about to inform him, but she needed to try, it was their only hope.

“It’s Ganondorf father! It’s him, I know it!” she said, desperate.

“Lord Ganondorf ? Nonsense! Zelda, lord Ganondorf is our ally! He is trying with all his might to convince Agnahim to join us as an united nation...” Her father told her, easing up a little bit. He had been worried at first, since it was in the family’s blood to have prophetic girls. Harkinian had never believe Zelda to be one, though, since she had never proven herself.

“Is he, really ? Are you sure ? Or is that what he tells you ?” The Princess spat, as she regained her warrior composure and got up from the chair.

“Zelda... please... the united meeting is in the day after tomorrow.. I’m am going to grant lord Ganondorf with a royal badge..” he said, trying to calm his daughter.

Zelda couldn’t believe that, she was desperate. How could he grant that traitor a royal badge ? If he only believed her… Zelda knew she would have a hard time convincing her father. Although her family had had many prophets, her father had never believed her to be one. She would always tell him about her prophecies and he would always ignore them, thinking they were created by a child’s fertile imagination.

“Father please, Listen to me! My prophecies have never been wrong... PLEASE trust me... it’s all I ask of you right now...please” she cried

“I will think about what you have told me Zelda. Now try to go back to sleep, sweetheart.” He told her, not really meaning it. He had an important day tomorrow, they both had. They had got to have a good night of sleep. He kissed his daughter’s forehead and left quickly, before she could argue.

Zelda couldn’t sleep anymore. She knew her father wouldn’t even consider the possibility of Ganondorf being a traitor.

Ganondorf, the leader of the Gerudo tribe. A tribe of women thieves, where only one man was born in 200 years. The Gerudo were beautiful and deadly. They were known to seduce villagers wherever they went, in order to reproduce, and then they would kill their partners in the most horrid way. The thieves lived in the desert kingdom of Zahra, a land unknown by all others, since every single person that had ventured into the desert’s infinity had never come back.

Zelda hated those women. She still remembered the day she met Ganondorf’s finest warriors. They were indeed beautiful. The king had ordered the guards of the castle to maintain distance from them, not wanting anyone to get injured. The most beautiful of all, Naborou was a curious Gerudo. Her wide eyes, dark skin and fiery spirit had captured Ganondorf’s desire, and she had been his chosen. But she had never liked the ways of the Gerudo, and befriending the Hylian Princess, she swore loyalty to her after she asked her father to talk Ganondorf out of executing the girl after she denied him.

Zelda knew it was too late to sleep. She made her way out of the room, deciding she would watch the sun rising, hoping that, somehow, the light of the new day would kill her fears and lead her to the solution of her problems.

                                                               7

“Zelda! Let’s go... We’ve got to see your dress before we go to the temple!” the blue haired girl pulled the other’s hand “come on, or we won’t have time!”

Zelda and Lavinia walked through the town market, escorted by five guards, and the young Sheikah Makar. They finally came by a store that had the most beautiful clothes they had ever seen. The owner of the store, Madam Tatl, had known Zelda ever since she was a small girl. She had always dressed the young Princess, and when her wedding was announced, Zelda had no doubt in whether who would make her dress. The old woman that was embroidering by a corner of the room quickly made her way to the two young princesses as they walked in, welcoming them with a large smile.

“Welcome dear! How are you ? It’s been a long time since you’ve been here the last time… I missed you…” she said, giving Zelda a motherly hug “I’ve heard your fiancée has arrived from Phalagya, has he not?” she said, winking at Zelda.

The princess couldn’t help but smile.

“He has” said Zelda “And I’m sorry, I know it’s been a long time… it’s just my duties have become bigger and bigger each day… I missed you too, Madam Tatl…”

“Oh you must be so happy… I still remember when I got married to Dampé, we were  so young and so in love…” the old lady continued, her eyes glittering at the memory

“How is Dampé?” Zelda asked, curiously. There had been a long time since she had seen the old man.

Dampé had been a soldier in Hyrule castle’s army. He had been the king’s most loyal general, and great friend. But when he fell in love with the young Tatl, he gave up everything he, since his job gave him wealth but was so dangerous, in order to get married to Tatl and raise a family. Sadly, they lost the only child they had, and ever since would treat Zelda as a daughter. Dampé had been gaining his life as a gravekeeper in Kakariko Village’s cemetery. It wasn’t the greatest job, but he gained money to put food on the table everyday.

“He is perfect dear… only, he’s been getting older you know, and that job of his… I’ve tried convincing him to do something else, but he just won’t! He says that one day, I’m going to understand it all… I wonder sometimes, if that head of his is alright…” she said, shaking her head disapprovingly.

“I’m sure he will change his mind… just as he changed his mind in being a soldier for the rest of his life…” Zelda said, assuring the old lady.

“Excuse me… I don’t mean to be rude,” said the young, blue-haired girl standing next to them “But it’s almost time of the daily gathering at the temple, Zelda… you wouldn’t want to be late would you?”

Ohh dearest, I’m so sorry… I forgot completely about your obligations…your dress is ready... and it’s beautiful, just as you are!” she said as she got a lavender colored box from the top of a pile of boxes.

“Here it is...” she said as she opened the box, revealing the most beautiful fabric. Zelda and Lavinia gasped as they saw the dress. It was godly. It was made of white silk, embroidered with pearl lining until the end of it’s belly, where the fine silk skirt would continue. Their eyes rested on the small amethyst drops that followed the lining, making it even more beautiful. Zelda took a deep breath. She was sure, the day she wore that dress would be the happiest of her life. She gently kissed the old lady’s cheek, and promised she would come see her more often.

After they left the Madam Tatl’s, they made their way to through the small town to the great Temple of Time.

Ever since it had been built, the Temple of Time was a daily sacred gathering, where all people would go and pray to the Gods. Rauru, the sage, would preach the teachings of the ancient writings, that told about the legend of the three Goddesses and how they created earth.

Zelda and Lavinia listened carefully to his words. Today he informed the people that whatever happened, they should always trust their King, who was given the power by the Gods and, if anything would happen to him, they should always follow their princess, who was still very young, but wise nonetheless. At those words, the young 17-year old couldn’t help but feel the weight of the world on her shoulders. She quickly pushed the thought of her being alone, to reign away. Nothing would happen to the King.

“Princess Zelda, Princess Lavinia, how please I am to have you here, came to set the wedding dates I presume ?” said the old man, a few hours later, after the gathering had finished.

“Yes lord Rauru…” answered the Phalagian princess “I can’t wait for Zelda to become my sister-in-law… It’s really going to be the most wonderful day…” she continued, a big smile upon her face.

“I can hardly wait Lavinia!” said the Hylian “I still can’t believe I’ll be getting married in six months…”

“But why wait such a long time?” Rauru asked amazed. He knew the wedding had been settled for a long time, now, and the King was eager to unite Phalagya and Hyrule so why wait?

He thought he knew exactly why. If the King was perhaps thinking about uniting Hyrule  not only with Phalagya but also with the kingdom of Zahra, he was very wrong in thinking that the desert lord was a loyal leader.

“Father wants to wait the six first meetings of the united kingdoms before they really become united.” Said Zelda.

She didn’t seem to think it was a good idea, and nor did Protomien. Their marriage had nothing to do with the united nations. Well, maybe it did, but they wanted to get married as soon as possible so they could be together. The distance killed them.

After they had set the dates with Rauru, Zelda and Lavinia decided to go back to the castle. Zelda wanted to spend as much time with Protomien as it was possible. She couldn’t believe that he was only going to spend five days with her. It was very difficult to love someone who lived oceans away from you.

“Princess Zelda” called a cold voice, as they passed by the Happy Mask Shop.

Zelda stopped, holding her breath. That voice… it was his voice. That horrible man’s voice… the voice of the traitor. She tried to act normally, as she turned around to great him.

Ganondorf” Zelda replied, as she looked straight into his deep, blood-red eyes. Not taking the chance to bow at him.

His small mouth turned into a smirk under his crooked nose, as he quickly noticed the Princess’ uneasiness.

“Lord Ganondorf” said Lavinia, as she bowed to the Desert King

“Princess Lavinia, it’s a real pleasure to see you again.” He said, as he took her hand and kissed it. Letting it go, he gazed upon the Hylian Princess, who didn’t take her deep violet eyes from him, measuring his every move.

“I am here to your engagement ball.” He announced, the smirk spreading wider on his lips.

Zelda felt as if she had swallowed a live bug. Her father couldn’t possibly had invited him, we couldn’t have done that to her.

“My engagement ball? How did you know? I don’t think my father invited the united nations leaders...” she said, not blinking. Her breath quickened.

She couldn’t help it. As long as that man was near her, or even in Hyrule, she would feel threatened. He was a threat not only to her, but to all her people. How could her father not see that? How could King Alberto not see it? Was she the wrong one? Was that all some kind of trick her mind was playing with her? No… her prophecies had never been wrong.

“Yes he did invite me, but even if he hadn’t… You must know Princess… that I happen to know everything that goes on in Hyrule castle” he told her, a hint threat in his voice.

“Then you must know, Lord Ganondorf , that I do not trust you.” She said, not breaking the eye contact, as she bowed to the Gerudo king, turned around and continued her way back to the castle.

“Yes, Princess Zelda. I know you do not trust me.” He said quietly to himself  And you must know, the night of your engagement will be a night to remember”

                                                                       8

A big noise woke Zelda that night. She opened her eyes quickly, as she continued to hear noises of what seemed to be swords fighting. The Princess, got up quickly, dressed the first dress she found, and ran to the closest window to try and find out what was happening.

Troops of a hundred Luongorians or more attacked the brave Hyrule Soldiers who fough desperately, trying to keep the intruders but failing.

The door of the Princess’ bedchamber opened in a rush, and a Sheikah woman invaded the room, sealing the door behind her. She ran to the young girl, taking her by the hand and dragging her across the room, to the far right corner. She ran a finger through the design of a triforce. The wall opened on a secret passageway, one of the many Zelda had heard about, that were created for emergencies.

“Princess, you must go!” Impa told her in a rush as she hurried with Zelda throught the secret dungeons “The Luongorian troops will be here any minute”

“I am not leaving my father, Impa!” Zelda cried, as she tried to free herself from her nurse, unsuccessfully.

Impa pushed her into the next dungeon, where she was glad to see that Protomien was alright.

“Oh, my love, I was so worried…” he said, as he hugged her protectively.

“Zelda please, promise me you’ll go with him… promise me you won’t do anything stupid” Impa begged her, taking her hands in hers.

“I… I can’t… you know I can’t…” the princess told her, her eyes as strong as a soldier’s.

“I’m counting on you then, Protomien… you two have got to go… this instant…” she said, looking at the startled young man.

He nodded before Impa  left to the battlefront.

The young prince dragged Zelda through the dungeons the rest of the way. The pathway he had taken her ended up in the sewers that led out of the town market to Hyrule field. Zelda still tried to free herself, as Protomien finally held her in his arms in order to make the way faster.

At the end of the sewers, a wagon was waiting for them with a couple of Phalagyan soldiers. Protomien threw Zelda in and followed, finally relaxing after what had happened.

As their carriage started moving Zelda looked deeply into Protomiens eyes.

“I cannot leave my father. I’m sorry.” She said, worry showing in her voice

“I can’t leave you here Zelda! After all, our engagement was going to take place tonight... this is nonsense, if you go back there, they’ll kill you…” he told her, speaking to her as if she was delusional.

Protomien, look at me! I love you, and I always will… but he is my father! I don’t trust Ganondorf! I don’t believe he is going to help my father and I am really sorry, I must stay! I love you… never forget that”

She said, before she kissed him and threw herself out of the wagon.

“Stop this wagon, NOW! ZELDA!” Protomien screamed

Zelda ran back throught the sewers and in to the secret passages to the castle dungeons. All she could think about was her father. ‘Please goddesses, protect my father’ Zelda thought as she made her way to the chaos that was taking place at the castle.

                                                                   9

The Sheikah messengers were now all over the kingdom, asking Hylians for backup. It was mid-afternoon by the time the young farmer, Link, got to the castle grounds.

Link had never seen a battle as bloody as this one. Not that he had been to a battle before, but he had heard about them by the people from the castle town market. The intrusion was almost over when something on Link’s destiny decided to change his fate.

ahhhh” Link heard a young soldier fighting a Luongorian. He was going to loose, it was evident. The Luongorian was thrice his size. Link quickly ran towards the young soldier and pushed him to the ground. He fought the soldier with might. For a moment he though he would loose, for the man’s first stroke was very strong, but as the prepared for a second strike, Link quickly took advantage of his swords lighter weight and slashed the Luongorian in half.

His breath quickened and his heart pounding wildly in his chest, the farmer looked at the young soldier as he gathered the pieces of his broken helmet.

“What the hell do you think you are doing? Do you want to get killed? That man was three times your size” But as Link looked more carefully, he realized the young man was in fact…

“You’re a girl!” Link watched in horror as long blond hair covered her face. For just a moment their eyes met and then just a second later…

“Watch out!” she shouted, Link could see she did something with her hands and than there was some kind of blue shield around both of them. The Luongorian that had just hit the shield had disappeared in thin air. When the shield was gone he looked at her, her deep, violet eyes in shock.

“How did you do that ?” he asked her in amazement.

He had thought at first that she was in danger in the middle of a war like that, but if anyone was, that would be him.

“...I...um..did...” she started

“I didn’t know there were still magicians in Hyrule..” he said, a relieved smile spreading through his face.

He had seen that girl before, he just couldn’t figure out where. Her violet eyes… they reminded him of Medli.

“...um..I...um...what ? Ohh... yes...” she looked slightly confused, as she nodded

“What are you doing here? A girl shouldn’t be fighting, it’s dangerous!” he said, now looking around them to see if there was any threat.

At that exact moment, they heard an explosion coming from the throne room, as though a smaller battle was going on inside. The girl’s head turned in a rush, her wide eyes in shock.

“Link!” a voice called from the other side “The war is over...!”

When Link turned to the girl, he saw her running towards the throne room.

“Hey, wait!” he shouted after her, as he tried to catch up.

He easily got to her, and held her hand to prevent her from running

“Where are you going? Haven’t you heard, the war is over!” he told her, smiling.

“I’ve got to go find my father…” she told him, worried

“I’ll help you look! Tell me your name, please…” he begged her, staring at her wide eyes. Something about that girl told Link she was going to be a big part in his life.

“It was a pleasure to meet you Link…” she said, before she too, smiled, and then she dropped herself to the floor and disappeared in a green light, appearing meters away running to the throne room.

Link thought he would run after her again, but a hand held his shoulder back. He turned around to find the familiar icy blue eyes of his cousin and her friend, a Sheikah named Makar, that worked at the castle.

Navi!” Link looked at the girl who had just arrived “Are you all right?” he asked her, while hugging her

“I’m fine and you ? What about the princess?” Navi asked in concern

what Princess ?” Link asked in confusion

“Link, you were talking to Princess Zelda seconds ago! What is she doing in the middle of a war anyway, and dressed like a soldier... I thought she was supposed to have gone to Phalagya with her fiancee this morning...” Navi stated, confused

“I was sure Impa was wrong… even Prince Protomien wouldn’t be able to take Princess Zelda away leaving her father to his own faith. Even her affianced would never have convinced her to leave her Hyrule and her people” told her Makar. A shadow of a smile taking form on his face.

Link, for the first time after hearing those words, trusted the princess. That was a true ruler, one that would never leave her country, for nothing. He was now proud of Hyrule’s princess. Something he thought he would never feel for a ruler, pride. But he couldn’t help it, after all, that was a story he would tell his grandchildren. The story of the princess who dressed as a soldier, fought the desires of her protectors, and took part in the battle.
