This story takes place a few years after the Oracle series.  Link is about twenty to twenty-one.  Zelda and Malon are the same age as well.  Zelda plays cupid with getting Link and Malon together, but that's all I can really say...And there are a lot of adulterated things in it, so anyone who can’t handle some sexual situations and foul language should steer clear of this one.

Sweet Song of the Night

"Link...Link...LINK!!!" A young girl's voice screamed.  It shocked the young man, and he fell off his straw bed.
"Saria, you idiot.  I was in the middle of a good dream."  Link rubbed his head.  He slept in nothing but his white spandex pants.
"Sorry.  But you've been sleeping in a lot lately.  You may be protector of the forest with me, but you still got chores to do."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah.  I'm up.  Lemme just go and wash myself in the Lost Woods."
Link grabbed his usual green tunic, cap, and boots.  He then jumped off the balcony of his house, landing perfectly and went to the wall of vines that lead to the woods. He climbed up and went in.
"Uh, you're forgetting something, bonehead!" Saria screamed.  Link turned around and SMACK!  A bar of soap hit him on the forehead.  "Bullseye!" Saria yelled.
"I'm gonna get you back for that!" Link replied grouchily.  He then trudged off into the woods, going into the watering hole where he usually bathes.  He took off his tights and jumped in.  The cold water was a rush that sent a chill through his body, making his teeth chatter.  He sat there a few minutes, letting his tall, muscular stature get used to the somewhat frigid water.
These past few years have been both a treat and trouble for him.  After he gave up on the search for his best friend Navi, and having to deal with Ganondorf yet again, he decided to keep his residence in Hyrule, specifically Kokiri Forest.  He came up with the idea of staying and protecting the eternal youths.  To be honest, he's been quite happy.  But, he still feels there is a part of him missing.  As if his happiness needs something in order for it to be true.

Malon had been up at the crack of dawn.  Much needed to be done.  The horses had to be let out, the cuccos needed feeding, cows needed to be milked, errands needed to be ran.  The stress was starting to get to the redhead, blue eyed, slightly tomboyish female.
Malon sat on a wooden stool next to a brown and white cow.  She grabbed two pink udders and sprayed the milk into the tin bucket, singing Epona's song to calm the cow.  She repeated the process with three other cows.
When Malon finished, her father Talon came in to help.  As he took up the buckets, he said, "Malon, there is something I've been wanting to talk to you about.  It's a little personal, and I know you might react strongly about it, but at least let me explain myself first."
"Sure Dad, I'll try to keep my cool."
Talon chuckled.  They poured the milk into large jars and loaded them onto the cart.  They both went into the house and sat at the wooden table across from each other.  Talon took a deep breath and began the conversation.
"Malon...I don't know how else to say this, so I'm going to be straightforward, maybe even downright depressing.  But what I say is true.  You may not believe me at first, but eventually you'll have to accept it." he took another deep breath. "I'm not going to be around forever.  It's the cliche that every father says, but it is true.  When I'm gone, I'm going to leave everything to you; the animals, the keepsakes, the money, the ranch.  But I'm going to be most worried about you."
"Why are you worried about me?  I can take care of myself.  Hell, I've taken care of you."
"I know, but who'll take care of you?  That's what worries me.  I want you to be with someone.  I want you to share this ranch with someone and uphold this legacy, keep the business going."
"With who?  I don't understand."
"Well...not now, but soon...it would make me proud if you get married.  I know settling down is a big step, but it would make me happy.  And by the look in your eyes, it would also make you happy."
Malon sat in her seat alarmed, yet wonderingly.  She didn't want to believe it, but he was right.  She should marry, start a family to keep the ranch in business.  Tears started to fill her eyes.
"Malon, I know you're mad at me.  But you don't have to get married right away.  Take your time, don't rush things."
"I'm not mad at you Daddy.  The one thing I've always wanted to do was fall in love.  I just haven't found him.  But I promise I will fulfill your wish, not just for you, but for my sake as well."  A gentle tear rolled down her cheek, for she knew her father's time on this earth will be up soon.
They both embraced in the most loving hug.  A hug every father is happy to feel from his full-grown daughter.

"Okay, here's the list.  And don't even think about getting anything extra for yourself."  Saria explained to Link.  He had to go to Hyrule Castle Market for groceries.
"Yes Mom." Link answered sarcastically.  He then quickly jumped onto his white horse, Rini, which he bought from Lon Lon Ranch a few months before.  He felt it was best to return Epona to her true owner, Malon.  Link galloped out of the forest and into the vast beauty known as Hyrule Field.  The sun shone as brilliantly as gold, white clouds soft like cotton, and the scent of spring in the air.
Malon drove the carriage that carried the milk and other Lon Lon specials.  Two horses pulled the carriage, one being Epona.  As the carriage trotted along, she noticed a figure appearing in the distance.  As she squinted her eyes, she made out the buff Hylian.  How can anyone not notice the green tunic, the floppy cap, and those large brown boots?  It was Link to her surprise.
"Hey Malon!"  He yelled.  Malon excitedly waved back.  Within a few seconds, he managed to catch up with her.
"Hey Link, long time no see.  How's Rini doing?"
"I'll tell you this much, she's less of a nag than Saria." Malon giggled.  The blond hair that came over his thumping temples carelessly bounced as he trotted on the horse.  His blue eyes glittered in the morning clear.
"So what's bringing you to the Market?" Malon asked.
"Just gotta do some grocery shopping for the village.  Nothing special.  Saria told me not to get anything for myself, but do I ever listen to her?"
"Hell no!" they both replied in unison.  They laughed at their own stupid joke.  As Malon was laughing, Link took a short, but good look at Malon sitting atop the carriage, handling the horses gently.  Her smile was brilliant, as if it never went away.
They both parked their horses just in front of the castle walls.  Link offered to help with the jars of milk by putting them onto wheelbarrels.  Malon also had to deliver some to the castle, to Zelda.
The market was as noisy as ever.  Children laughing and playing, cuccos clucking, people bidding for different antiques, musicians playing for as much as five rupees.
"I think I'll help you with the milk before I do my shopping.  That is, if you don't mind me helping." Link suggested.
"Okay.  I don't know about you, but I haven't seen Zelda in awhile.  Can't wait to talk to her again."
"I haven't seen her in awhile either.  I bet she'll enjoy our company as much as we'll enjoy hers."
Malon smiled happily.  They unloaded the wheelbarrels of all the Lon Lon goods to the kiosks they were sold at.  The people that distributed the goods paid Malon with rupees and their respects.   And after that, they headed towards the castle.
Two guards stood firmly in front of the gate.  Link pushed the wheelbarrel up to the gate for Malon.
Malon replied, "We're delivering stuff to the princess."  One of the guards looked into the wheelbarrel.
"Okay, you can go on in." he said.  Link and Malon entered the castle perimeters.
"Damn, I forgot how big this place is." Link replied surprisingly.
"Yeah, I know.  I'll never get tired of coming to this place."  They both then heard a loud whistle.  Malon looked up. "Hey, look who's at the window!"
Link looked up and saw Princess Zelda and her Sheikah attendant, Impa.
"Hey guys!" Link yelled. "Come on down, we got some gifts for you guys!"
"We'll be right down!" Zelda yelled back.  She closed the window and disappeared into the room.
"You know, we should just have our own picnic right here, just hang out.  With a home this size, it'll take forever to get down those stairs." Malon whined.  Just then Zelda and Impa magically appeared in front of them.
"Yeah, except for the fact that Impa does the Sheikah disappearing act and Zelda teleports with Farore's Wind Magic." Link corrected.  Malon blushed, feeling embarrassed.
"I'll take that wheelbarrel if you don't mind." Impa offered.  Malon turned it over to her.  Impa walked off and said she'll return it to the ranch when she's done.
"So, what's new with you guys?" Zelda asked. "I wanna know everything exciting."
"Well," Link started. "Saria is as big of a nag as ever.  Lately I've been treating myself to extra naptime and playtime that she get's on my case when I don't do my chores."
"I'd be on your case as well.  Usually you're the one who's up and awake at dawn to get things done." Zelda said.
"Yeah, but I'm just...being a guy.  There's nothing wrong with being a guy."
The girls giggled. Malon spoke up, "That's the lamest excuse I've heard come out of your mouth.  You'd only do that type of shit if something was wrong.  I know this.  You stay up late thinking about what's bothering you.  You're head is in the clouds when something pokes at your emotions."
There was a two second pause, then Link started laughing, "I can't believe you said that.  I don't talk to either of you for weeks at a time and you talk as if you've know me my whole life."
Malon then slapped Link on the arm.  Malon is a lot stronger than other girls, so Link was able to feel it.  Zelda couldn't help but laugh at them fighting.
Then something hit her mind.  The way Link and Malon picked at each other, yet help each other out when their paths do cross.  The way they are happy when they are together, the way they talk to each other...it's somewhat...nice...
After an hour of talking, Link said he had to go do some shopping for the Kokiris.  Malon thought she had to get back to the ranch as well.
"Malon, could you just stay a few minutes, I just want to ask you something."
"Sure.  Link, I'll see you later?"
"Yeah, I'll come by again."  And he left to do his chore of the day.  Saria was going to get on his case for taking so damn long when he mingled more than food shopped.
"What do you want to talk about?" Malon asked.
"Well, I've been thinking about you and Link a lot.  We're all getting older.  Wait, let me put this a different way...uh..."
"You also want me to get married.  My dad gave me that speech this morning.  Believe me, I do.  But I just haven't found the one who is worthy enough to be...my husband."
"I see.  Took the words right out of my mouth.  You know I'm ready and willing to help whenever you need it.  If you ever have problems, I can always help.  Being an only child, you're like a sister to me.  Remember when Link introduced us.  We were best friends in an instant."
"Yeah, I remember." Malon smiled.
"Well, as princess, soon to be queen, and your best friend, I want to help you with your dating situation.  I can make you the happiest woman in the world."
"Really?  Who do you think would want to go out with me?"
"Well, there's a guy I know who is oh so handsome, the sweetest guy I know, and you'll definitely want to keep him."
Malon thought to herself for a moment...Then it struck her like lightning.
"You mean...LINK?  You're willing to set me up with Link?"
"Oh admit it.  When the three of us were talking, you looked at him with such...I can't describe it, it's so beautiful."
Malon blushed.  With talking to Link, she did have a certain thing for him, she just didn't know what.  Now she knew, thanks to Zelda.  Damn, Zelda's good.

Later that night, Link snuck into the Sacred Meadow.  He unraveled a blanket he brought.  He laid himself down onto it, on his back, and looked up at the clear night sky.  The stars twinkled with platinum brilliance and the moon  was in a crescent smile.  Link stared up dreamily.  And for some reason, he thought about Malon.  The way she looked in the springtime like she did.  He could never get over her red hair, with blond highlights from the sunshine.
He finally realized, love was missing from his life.  He wanted to fall in love.  The kissing, the hugging, the talking, the loving...he wanted it all.  And maybe Malon was the one to fulfill his needs.  Maybe she could fulfill his desire of love and affection.  He then took out Saria's gift; the fairy ocarina.  And he played a song he composed himself.  A song he will hope to play for his future wife.

Malon was also awake.  She sat on the windowsill of her room, gazing at the stars.  She thought about Zelda setting her up with Link.  Ever since she was a little girl, her dream was for a knight in shining armor to sweep her off her feet and they lived happily ever after, like in storybooks.  Link is somewhat of a Knight, so maybe he is the one for her.  And he is quite sexy, with the blond hair and the tights contouring to his silky skin.  It made her smile.  And his eyes were always gentle and sweet.  His lips kissing hers, and down to her neck...the more she thought about it, she giggled, but realized she did have feelings for him.

     A few days later...

"Link, someone's here to see you!" Saria called into his home.  Link put the book he was reading down and looked out the window.  It was Zelda!  He jumped off the balcony like he always does.
"Hey Zelda!  What brings you to the forest?"
"Well, I wanted to talk to you."  They both went by the waterfall to sit and talk.
"Is it important?" Link asked.
"Yeah, it is.  I really hate being nosy, but I mean it for good intentions.  To be straightforward, I figured out why you're being such a lazy ass."
Link was kind of shocked hearing her use foul language.  But, no matter.
"You have feelings for someone.  Feelings you thought you'd never have.  You always think about it, which is why Saria is doing what she does best; being a mom.  You're letting the daydreams interfere with everything else.  You want to fall in love.”
"What are you, a psychic?"
"I'm working on it." Zelda giggled.  She loved having magic around her.
Link wanted to say something vulgar to her, but she was right.  He did want to fall in love.
"I know I shouldn't get in the way of nature, but at this rate, you and Malon will never do it."  Zelda then smacked her forehead.  She blew the fact she was setting up him and Malon.
"You think I have feelings for Malon?  Oh my goddess...Yes, I do want to fall in love, but Malon and I...No way it'll ever happen.  She's to...we just can't be together.  It'll never happen."
"What makes you say that?  There could never be a more perfect match than you two.  She's only a year younger than you.  She's adventurous, she's a hard worker, and she is the prettiest girl I know.  There are features of hers that I would kill for."
Link sat in denial for a few minutes.  He didn't know whether to run away or admit he'd even date Malon so he wouldn't be alone.  But he just sat there, speechless.
"How about this," Zelda suggested, "Write a letter to meet somewhere.  Set up a nice dinner, this way you two will talk, really get to know each other.  I can wait while you write it and I'll go deliver it right to her."
"I don't know about this, but...okay, I’ll try.  But if things really get fucked up, I place all blame on you."
"Be my guest.  I'll be talking with Saria while you work on your homework."
"Very funny..." Link trudged to his treehouse, climbing up the ladder and into his one room.  He sat at his desk, took out paper and a pen, and thought about what to write.
"Okay, it'll be short and to the point.  No need to be so sensitive about it." Link spoke to his own self.

     Dear Malon,

It's me, Link.  I really enjoyed your company the other day at Hyrule Castle Market.  I wish to see you again.  Let's meet tomorrow at Hylia Lake at sunset.  I hope you aren't busy, so please do come.

Link

Link folded up the paper.  He jumped out of his treehouse and strolled over to Saria's house.  He went in and saw Saria and Zelda laughing.
"I'm done...so you'll bring it over to her today?" Link inquired.
"I'll bring it over right now." Zelda snatched the letter.  "Bye guys.  And Link, good luck tomorrow night." She winked at him and went to her horse that was waiting anxiously.  She then sped off to Lon Lon Ranch.

Zelda and her horse trotted in to the manure stenched ranch.  Cuccos clucked in the distance and cows were heard in the barn.  Zelda called Malon's name.
"Hey Malon!  Special Delivery!"
Malon than appeared out from the barn.  She was startled to see the famous princess out and about by herself.
"Hey Zel, what brings you to the ranch?"
"I got a letter for you."
"Who's it from?"
"Read for yourself." Zelda handed over the letter.  Malon excitedly opened the letter and read it.  A smile was plastered on her face the whole time.
"I will meet him tomorrow night as he wants.  It's an automatic yes."
"You must really like him in order to automatically say yes like that."
"Well, he could very well be the one.  I mean, I need to give it a lot of time before we are really sure of ourselves.  But you think he's responsible enough to tame the ranch animals?"
"Of course.  This is the one who saved my life.  He's saved yours as well.  And the ranch's.  He can definitely do it."
"Oh, but what am I going to wear?  All I have are manure and feather covered work dresses and boots.  I can't go on a date like that."
Zelda chuckled.  "That's taken care of.  Come by castle around mid morning.  I'll give you a dress and do your makeup as well.  My maidservants will give you a look that will even make me envious."
Malon smiled as big as ever.  Her and Zelda hugged each other with great happiness.

     The next morning...

Malon jogged quickly to the castle.  She ran past the bustling crowd, swerving past little children, and hoping not to step on any loose cuccos.
Malon went up to the gate where the guard automatically let her in.  Zelda was already waiting for her a few feet away.  Zelda took Malon by the hand and led her into the castle.
"Zelda, what do I say when people walk up to me?  I'm not exactly Miss Etiquette, you know."
"Don't worry about it.  Just be normal."  Zelda led Malon up a stairway that seemed to go to heaven.  But they reached the top and they had gone into Zelda's room.
The room was so big, Malon could probably fit the whole ranch into the room, animals and all.  Everything was pink, Zelda's favorite color.  She had a king-size bed with white wooden posts.  She had her own dining room, a large bathroom with a huge bathtub.  And the closet was probably a whole room itself.
Zelda led her in front of a mirror.  Malon felt ashamed.  She was all casual and here Zelda was, formal on a regular morning.
"Okay.  Take off your clothes." Zelda blurted.
Malon's eyes went wide, her eyebrows shooting up.  "You want me to get undressed in front of you?"
"Oh, don't worry.  We're both girls.  Besides, I need you to try on these dresses anyway.  You're going to need help getting into some of them anyway."
"Okay.  But I have serious issues with my body.  So don't poke at anything, will you?"
"Fine.  Now get undressed."
Malon took off her boots.  She untied her sash and the buttons on the collar of her shirt.  She then let the whole thing drop to the floor.  She stood in nothing but her panties.  Zelda grabbed the first dress off the rack and displayed it in front of Malon.
"We want something that will make you stand out, yet it will go nicely with your hair color.  What do you think of this purple one?" Zelda explained.
"I like it.  But I'm not crazy about the jewels at the top by the collar."
Zelda took a look at it, then a look at Malon.  "Hmm...Let’s try something a little brighter, but less tacky."  Zelda tossed the dress on a nearby chair.  She then got a nice deep red one.
"Oh wow!  I really like this one." Malon exclaimed.  "I wanna try it on." Zelda handed it over to her.  Malon slipped it on over her head.  When she got it in place of her body, Zelda tied the sash on the backside of it.
"Okay, turn around and let me see it." Zelda ordered.  Malon did what she said.  She looked amazing.  Zelda couldn't believe Malon had the same dress size.
The dress was red velvet, with a low scoop neck. It was long sleeved, but they were flared at the cuffs with pink satin.  The sash was also pink satin.  The dress went down to her ankles.
"This dress is perfect for you.  I have another one, but it's royal blue color.  And whatever is pink on this dress is sky blue on the other one."  Zelda explained. "Do you want to see how the blue one looks?"
Malon nodded her head yes.  Zelda untied the sash in the back.  Malon slipped out of it while Zelda grabbed the other dress.  Malon put it on the same way as the other one.
"I like the way this one looks on you as well." Zelda commented.
"There's the dilemma.  I like them both and I don't know which one to wear!" Malon wailed.  Zelda slightly giggled.
"I personally think you should wear the blue.  It really compliments the hair and makes your eyes look brighter."
"Alright then.  I think this one is it." Malon replied confidently, smiling in satisfaction.

"That is so cute...my little boy is going on his first date." Saria joked.  She sarcastically "cried."
"Knock it off Saria.  It's not a date date.  She's my friend, and I really want to see her more.  The only friends I do see almost everyday are the animals in the forest."
Link was putting on different vests.  Instead of wearing a tunic, he thought of wearing pants, a shirt, and a vest.  But he'll always wear his trademark floppy cap.  He just didn't know which color.
"Hey!  What about me?" Saria whined.  Link then jumped out of his house.  And he looked GOOD.  Green pants, green vest, tight white spandex shirt under the vest, usual green cap and brown boots.
"Wow..." Saria replied, shocked.  "You look...almost like a prince."
"Really?  Thanks."
"Note that I said the word 'almost'."
Link rolled his eyes and began to walk to his horse.  He grabbed the picnic basket that he carried everything in.  He put the basket onto the horse and turned towards Saria.
"If I'm not back before eleven, I'm having a good time." Link said.
"Fine with me.  Kokiri Forest will be quiet for once.  Oh yeah, and...good luck.  I can't think of anyone more perfect to be with Malon than you."
"Thanks Saria." Link replied with a confident smile.  And he rode off to Lake Hylia.

The sun was starting to set as Link finished the final preparations.  It was a typical picnic.  A red and white plaid blanket, two white wax candles, roasted cucco, assorted fruits and vegetables, and red wine.  Since they were by the lake, in case Malon didn't like wine, there was water.
'Nothing can go wrong.' Link thought to himself.  It was too good of a night for even the evil Ganondorf to screw it up.  Link then turned around, and across the lake, he saw a redhead girl walking on the bridge, by the lakeside laboratory.  She was getting closer...now she was by the owl statue...now walking towards him.  Link could feel his stomach nervous, but it was the least of his worries.  He couldn't take his eyes off the earthbound angel swiftly walking towards him.  And he realized it was Malon.
Not much makeup was on Malon.  All she had was dark red lipstick.  But even without makeup, Link was struck with lust for her, she was so beautiful.
"You didn't have to get dressed up for me like this." Link said. "But you look absolutely beautiful, I can't take my eyes off of you."
"Oh stop it.  You're making me blush." Malon replied shyly.  Link walked up to her and took her left hand, moving the flared sleeve and kissing the soft skin on her hand.  They both sat next to each other, facing the setting sun.
"You know," Malon broke the awkward silence. "I was kinda scared about coming at first.  I thought the letter was some kind of prank or something."
"No  way.  I was kinda scared about coming, too.  I thought you wouldn't show up at all."  They both looked at each other and laughed.  They ate the wonderful dinner and talked about everything, and getting to know each other as the person they are.
"Would you like some wine to drink?" Link asked.
"Yes, please." Malon said.  He grabbed to crystal glasses and poured the dark red liquid into them.  He gave one to Malon and they said "Cheers" in unison.
"Hey Malon, look.  The first star of the night.  Make a wish." Link suggested.  Malon looked up, then closed her eyes for three seconds.
"What did you wish for?" he asked.
"That you would kiss me right now."  And so he did.  He swept in close to her, putting his hand gently onto her cheek and sweetly kissing her.  Malon snuggled close to him, hoping to get more of his taste into her mouth.  Their lips parted ways.  Malon didn't know what to do or say.  She just wrapped her arms around his waist and rested her head on his chest, next to his beating heart.  Link closed his eyes and prayed that this romance would last a long time, hopefully forever.
At around midnight, Link gave Malon a ride on the horse back to Lon Lon.  She sat behind him, wrapping her arms around his waist.  He went slow, hoping she won't fall off, and savoring every moment he had with her.
Link and Malon were quiet the whole time.  Maybe it was because they were both in a dream, or so they thought.  Or maybe it was because words can ruin something in an instant.  Maybe because it was it romantic to be quiet like this, like watching a play.  Whatever the case may be, words could not describe the moment, for silence was golden to them.
They got to the ranch.  Link helped Malon off the horse and they walked hand in hand to her door.
"Come in with me." Malon whispered.  Link was shocked on the inside, but no reaction came externally.
Malon quietly opened the door and let Link in.  He followed her closely, trying to make a noise no louder than a mouse's footsteps.  She held his hands and led him upstairs, to her room.  He had no clue where this was going.  But he trusted Malon.
She closed the door behind them.  She then sat down on her bed and motioned him to sit by her patting the area of the bed next to her.
Link sat close to her and looked into her eyes.  Those sapphire eyes he could look into for hours.  Malon then wrapped her arms around Link's neck and started kissing him.  He responded by kissing back.  Link wrapped his arms around her waist.  He didn't know what he was getting himself into.  Well, maybe he did, he just didn't want to stop.  Malon's kiss tasted sweeter to him than the wine they had drank.
Malon then pulled Link on top of her.  Link obeyed, and ran his lips all over her neck and shoulder's.  Malon's hands went all over his back, down to below the waist.
'Wait a minute, we're going too fast.  I'm forcing myself onto her too much.' Link thought. 'I gotta do something before we go too far.  What if Talon walks in?  I don't want to risk it.'
Link kept kissing Malon on the neck.  How was he going to tell her?
Malon could tell somehow that he was aroused.  Something insider of her said she should stop, but the way Link kissed her, the tenderness, the softness...she wanted it.  Then she realized her father might hear them.  He's told her a number of times to wait until marriage, but she didn't want to.  But again, he was right.
"Link, wait." Malon whispered.
"What's wrong?"
"I don't think I can do this.  My dad might hear us."  Link got off of her.  She sat up, blushing.  "It's my fault, I shouldn't have invited you in, but I didn't want to be rude."
"It's okay.  You stay here and go to sleep.  I'll go.  I'll come by tomorrow to see you."
Malon smiled.  She kissed Link on the cheek and purred into his ear, "I'll remember this night forever." Link kissed her on the lips goodnight and tiptoed down the stairs.  He got on the horse and galloped on home.
They both went to sleep, dreaming of each other...

Weeks passed, and Link and Malon saw each other almost every day.  As the days and the weeks passed, They fell deeper and deeper in love together.  Each day grew more and more passionate.
But one day, Talon was stricken with a fever.  So instead of going out with Link, her free time was with her father.
"Oh, Daddy.  I just don't know when this illness will go away.  It's been here for over a week."  Malon sat on the bed, watching her sleeping father.  He had lost a lot of weight, and his cheeks were red.  His fever has gone as low as 102.  But that was it.  His time was almost up.

"So, do you think you can get a doctor in there?" Link asked Zelda when he went to visit her at the castle.
"Absolutely.  I don't know what he can do though.  It's a tough situation, but I'm sure he can come up with a diagnosis."
"I miss her Zelda.  One day, we were happy together, with no worries, and then Talon gets this.  While she watches over him, I do the errands for her while she takes care of the animals in the ranch.  I don't know what else to do anymore."
"You're doing all you can.  You're doing what a good boyfriend does for the love of his life.  And Malon is strong.  She can get through anything."
"Yeah." But Link didn't know what else to say.  The man that was both the mother and the father to Malon was possibly dying.  And the more Malon became depressed, the less Link saw of her.  He had to do something.

"Well, it looks like the Green Death.  It's a disease that makes someone weak, and one day they'll fall asleep and never wake up.  It can be cured in the early stages.  But, the disease is so into him that medicines won't do anything."  Zelda's doctor reported to Malon.
"So there isn't anything I can do.  There has to be something.  I don't care how much it costs.  I'll sell the ranch if I have to."
"I'm sorry, Miss Malon.  But there is nothing I can do.  Just...make him as comfortable as possible.  Spend as much time as you can with him and make the best of it."
The middle aged doctor left the ranch.  Talon was still aware of the surroundings.
"Malon..."
"I'm here Daddy.”
"How you holding up sweetheart?"
Malon had tears stinging her eyes.  She held Talon's hand and kissed it.
"Don't cry.  I have to go sometime."
"But why now?  I feel like I did something wrong."
"You didn't do anything wrong.  It's a part of life.  But I'll always be with you.  Maybe not in person, but in spirit.  And in your mind and heart.”
He closed his eyes.  Malon kissed his forehead and went to her room.  She flopped down on the bed and began to cry like a baby.  She wailed for well over twenty minutes.
‘My little girl has to fly on her own now…’ Talon thought to himself.

Another week had passed.  Every time Link went to see Malon, she was either in her room or not there at all.  Zelda tried talking to her, but even she couldn’t do it.  Malon was the first thing Link thought about in the morning, and the last thing he thought about when he went to bed.  His heart was breaking because she wasn’t there to comfort him.
Link thought about her all the time.  She missed her sweet kisses, her hands wrapped around him like she was scared, the softness of her skin, the innocence in her eyes, the silkiness of her hair…he remembered all the emotions he’s gone through being with her.
That was when Link realized it…he was in love with Malon.

“Malon!  Malon!  It’s me, Link!”  Link knocked on the door and pulled the rope that rang the bell.  He kept calling her name, but no answer.  “Malon, I’m begging you, please talk to me.  I know you’re going through a hard time, I know you’re depressed, but please, let me do something to help.  I want to be there for you, and I always be here for you.  I…” But Link couldn’t muster the courage to say ‘I love you.’
Link walked away with his head hanging low.  His straight blond hair came across his eyes.  Being the strong person he was, he held back his tears of sorrow.
‘She’s bored of me, I know it.  I knew it would never work out.  I’m not good enough for her.  I know she deserves better than me.  I’ll…”
“Link!  LINK!  DON’T LEAVE ME!” A girl’s voice called.  Link turned around steadily.  It was a tear stained Malon running towards him.  His eyes went wide with shock.  He held his arms open and embraced her.  Malon sobbed into his shoulder.
“It’s okay Malon…I promise never to leave you.  I’m here for you.”  Link put his hands on her face, using his thumbs to wipe away her tears.
“My father wants to talk to you before he goes.”
“Go where?  Oh wait…I see.”  Malon took his hand and led him to Talon.
Talon laid on his back, his hands at his sides.  Malon left Link alone with him.
“Link…these past few months, Malon has been happy, all because of you.  She loves you very much, she’s just a little shy expressing herself in that way.  I want you two to get married, start a family.  That is my only dying wish.  I leave everything to Malon and you.  I don’t trust anyone else other than you to be with my little girl.”
“You have my word Talon.  I will make Malon the happiest woman in the world.  I’ll give her everything she wants, and I’ll be the most loyal and loving husband anyone could want.  I love your daughter more than life itself, and I am ready and willing die to keep her safe.”
“Good…now, bring my girl back in.”  Link called for Malon.  She came in quickly.  She then sat next to her father.
“Is there anything else I can do for you, daddy?”  Malon asked.
“No.  Just be happy.  Remember I’ll always be with you.  And as if I were alive, make me a proud grandfather.  Malon…I’m going to be with your mother now…take care, and I love you…” Talon drifted away into eternal slumber.  Within a few minutes, he was gone.
Malon cried her heart out, knowing her father’s soul was gone from this earth.  Link had tears rolling down his cheeks, for Malon’s sake.  He took Malon into his arms, letting her cry for as long as she needed to.

A few days later, on a rainy day, Talon’s body was laid to rest at the cemetery in Kakariko Village.  It was small, just the way Talon wanted it.  The attendees were Malon, Link, Zelda, Impa, Saria, some fairies, and a few castle workers who knew Talon, and they lowered the casket.
After the funeral, Malon trudged back to Lon Lon Ranch.  Link was a couple of steps behind her.  And somehow, it had stopped raining as they got to the field.  They were both silent.  Link fondled with the ring that was in his pocket.  When Link finally decided he wanted to propose to Malon, he told Zelda, and some of her jewelers made a special ring for him to give to Malon.  He wasn’t sure when to propose.  He couldn’t do it now, not when she was depressed like this.  But it could cheer her up, give her a sense of hope.
Link followed Malon into the house.  He sat down on a wooden chair and Malon started a fire in the fireplace.  Link still played with the ring, trying to find the words to say.
‘The story books make it sound so easy.’ Link thought to himself.  Malon then placed a cup of warm Lon Lon milk in front of him.  Link said thank you and drank it mechanically.  He was still mustering up the courage to talk to the broken down Malon.  She sat across from him.  She did the same thing, drinking her milk and staring off into space.  They didn’t talk to each other at all.
When night came, Malon was tired from moping and decided to go to sleep.
“Malon, let me stay here the night with you.  I don’t want you to be alone.  Not like this.”
“Okay.  Good night Link.”  She trudged upstairs to her room.  Link decided to stay up a little while longer.  He took the ring out of his pocket.  Talon’s dying wish was for Link to marry Malon.  But, for the first time since his childhood, Link felt an emotion he hoped never to feel; cowardice.  He was scared to propose to Malon, but he didn’t know why.  He loved her so much, and would do anything for her.
‘If I love her so much, why am I afraid to do something.’  Link thought to himself. ‘Is it the fear of rejection?  The thought of Malon turning me down?  Maybe she might get mad at me for proposing on such a dark day for her.  But Talon wanted to see her happy…what about what I want?  I’ve been doing everything for Malon…’ Link got frustrated and groaned angrily.  That was when he decided he’ll do it;  he’ll propose to Malon right away.  He’ll tell her what her dad said to him, show her the ring, and maybe he get away with getting bitch slapped.
Link walked up the stairs, ring in his pocket, words ready to be said.  He went to Malon’s room and opened the door.  But on accident, he walked in on her with no clothes on except her panties.
Link looked at her beautiful and slender body for two seconds.  He looked away, embarrassed.
“Malon, I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to, but I have something really important to ask-”
“It’s okay Link…you can look at me.” Malon replied shyly.  He slowly turned around.  She was still naked, but her arms were crossed to cover her chest.  Those wide eyes of hers looked at him with such gentleness and innocence.  He took a few steps towards her, mesmerized by her eyes.  He then stopped when she put her arms down, exposing herself.  Link was completely aroused, but didn’t know what to do.  He just froze like the Zora’s Domain had once been frozen.  She walked up to him and started kissing him.  Her chest crushed against his, making him both aroused and nervous.
Their lips parted, but Malon kept her arms wrapped around his neck.  Then she stroked his cheek with her hand.  He shifted his head so his lips would kiss her hand.  She then led him to the bed and pulled him on top of her, like the night they first kissed.  He kissed her neck and she stroked his back.
‘Wait a minute…’ Link thought to himself. ‘I’m doing this again.  But now it seems like she wants to do it.  She wants me around, so now would be the perfect time to ask.
“Malon…” Link said while kissing her skin.”
“Hmm…” Malon replied.
Link took the ring out of his pocket.  He held it up so she can see it.  “Will you marry me?”
Malon went wide eyed.  She knew she would be proposed to someday, but never had she thought of it being done while they were about to make love.  But a smile was brought to her face.  Her first smile in months, and replied resoundingly, “Yes, Link.  I will marry you.”  Link smiled as well.  He slipped the ring onto her left ring finger.  When he slipped it on, he kissed the ring on her hand, and then kissed her on the lips.
“Link, maybe we should wait to do this until our wedding night.  I want to make it as special as possible.”
“Are you sure?”
“Absolutely.  Do you think you can wait until our wedding night?”
“I’ll wait until forever for you.”  Link kissed her again.  Link then got up and got her nightgown off of her dresser.  She slipped into it.
“This bed is big enough for the both of us.  You can still spend the night here with me.” Malon offered.
“I most certainly will.”  Link took off his boots and climbed under the covers with her.  They both snuggled and dreamt sweet dreams.

“We want to get married as soon as possible.” Malon explained to Zelda.  Two days after Link slept over, Malon met Zelda for lunch.  Malon wanted Zelda to be the maid of honor, the wedding planner, and the dress designer.
“How’s next Saturday?  Just tell me whether you want it in the castle courtyard, Temple of Time, or we can do it right at your ranch.  I’m sure your father would love to see you get married there.”
“How about the ceremony in the Temple of Time, and the reception in the courtyard.”
“Absolutely.  This is your day, and it has to be as special as possible.  Now, for the lingerie you’ll be wearing that night…”

The wedding day had come.  Link wore a black tunic and black pants.  And for the first time in his life, he’d be going to a special occasion with no hat.  But that’s okay.  One day with no hat hair is a treat for him.  He wasn’t nervous or scared or anything.  He knew he was going to spend the rest of his life with that special someone he’s been waiting his whole life for.  He was confident in himself, and with Malon.
Rauru decided to perform the ceremony.  It was going to be a small ceremony.  The same people who were in attendance for Talon’s funeral were there, plus a few other Kokiris, Gerudos, and some Zoras, including Ruto.
Link patiently waited for his bride.  He said a silent prayer to the goddesses for happiness and lots of love in his marriage with Malon.  When he finished, the organ began to play, and down walked the red carpet…Malon.  She wore the same dress like the night of their first date, only it was all white.  She had a crown of white flowers and carried Casablanca lilies as the bouquet.  Her hair was still the usual; red with blond highlights of the sun, straightened, and left loose.  He also noticed that fairies were dancing around her, as if she came down from heaven.  Link let out a grin.  He was getting married.
Rauru performed the vows.  Link and Malon both said ‘I do’ as they slipped the golden wedding bands with the Triforce symbol inscribed on them.  They both looked into each other’s deep blue crystal water eyes.
“With the power invested in me, by the goddesses Din, Nayru, and Farore, I pronounce you husband and wife.  You may now kiss the bride.” Rauru replied.
And like so, they kissed, as husband and wife.  Everyone clapped and cheered happily.  When their lips parted, they smiled at each other and walked down the isle together.
As they had their reception in the castle courtyar, Link noticed a man.  He was about his age, had dark hair, gold headband, and clothes much like a knight’s.  And he was talking to Zelda.  And they were smiling at each other.  Link walked over.
“Link.  I meant to tell you, I was having an extra guest and I knew you wouldn’t mind.  This is my new friend, Marth.  Marth, this is Link.”  Link and Marth shook hands.
“Congratulations, Link.  I wish you and Malon many years of happiness and love.”
“Thank you Marth.  I’m glad you were in attendance of the special occasion.”
Link and Malon slowdanced.  They also noticed that Marth was dancing with Zelda.
“Looks like Zelda found her prince charming.  Literally.  He’s the prince of the Kingdom of Altea.” Malon explained.
“Yeah.” Link replied.  As they slowdanced, the kissed on the lips every once in awhile.
Malon then tossed the bouquet at the end of the party.  And much to their surprise, Zelda caught it.  Everyone whistled and cheered.
Link then walked up to Marth and said, “Zelda has been mine and Malon’s best friend since we were all little kids.  Promise me you’ll be good to her, and you’ll make her happy like Malon and I are.”
“I promise.  As prince of Altea, you have my word.”  They both shook hands to it.
Link and Malon rode on Epona back to the ranch, with a sign on the back that says ‘Just Married.’  They put Epona in the stables.  Link then swept Malon off her feet and carried her to her room.  The sun had set, the moon was full, and the stars were shining.
Link gently put her on the bed.  He then went to get something for her.  She waited patiently.  When he came back, he had the Ocarina of Time.
“Zelda let me borrow it.”  He then began to play it.  He played his tune.  The tune he vowed to play for his wife.  Malon thought it was the most beautiful sounding thing.  When he finished it, she motioned him to come.  He got on top of her and starting kissing her.  His hands gently cupped her breast, while her hand wrapped around his neck.  He then kissed her neck, tasting her sweet soft skin.
“I love you Link.”
“I love you too, Malon.”
And they made love to each other the whole night through, as husband and wife.

And they lived happily ever after…

The End
