At first glimpse, you may suspect the Great Fairies to simply be
scantily clad ladies
floating in the air. On
further inspection, you will find that this true. Only joking!
...well, kind of. If you
think about it fairies are supposed to be very natural – and
what could possibly be more natural than being wrapped only in
ivy? Although they
do bare a
slight resemblance to a nice lady I once met in the Moulin Rouge... (lol)
There are six Great Fairies to be found in Ocarina of Time, each
one bestowing you
a magical power or improving your power.
Great
Fairy 1 – The Great Fairy of Power Received: Magic Sword Spin Technique
The
first Great Fairy you can go and visit lives up at the top of Death
Mountain. You can’t see her before
finding the Bomb Bag inside the Dodongo’s Cavern. Darunia will tell you to go and visit her after you finish the
dungeon. Once you get to the top of
Death Mountain, the Owl, Kaepora Gaebora, will be sitting on top of a
sign. To the right of it will be the
entrance to Death Mountain Crater, and on the left will be something looking
suspiciously like one of those suspicious-looking bombable walls. To add to this curiosity, it sounds
different when hitting it with your sword (just as bombable walls do), and Navi
turns green and hovers around it. Any
ideas? Sooo, after bombing open the
hidden entrance, go on in and play Zelda’s Lullaby on the Triforce mark (you
need to do this in each fairy’s abode to talk to them).
Great Fairy 2 – The Great Fairy of Magic Received: Din’s Fire
After
teaching you the magic sword spin technique, the Great Fairy will tell you to
go and see her friend who leaves near the castle. Head towards the castle by going through Hyrule Market. Climb the vines and head towards the
bridge. Either climb down the hole in
the bridge or keep going and roll off.
Straight ahead of you, you will find a sign saying ‘dead end.’ A boulder is next to the wall – blow it up
with a bomb. Oh my goodness! A hole in the wall! Crawl through the gap.
Great Fairy 3 – The Great Fairy of Magic Received: Farore’s Wind
The
third Great Fairy can be found in Zora’s fountain. There is a little island on the other side of the lake from lord
Jabu-Jabu with some boulders by a fake wall.
Plant a bomb to open up a massive opening inside the wall. Go in.
Great Fairy 4 – The Great Fairy of Wisdom Received: Enhanced Magic Meter
The
last three Great Fairies can only be found when Link’s grown up. You need to have obtained the Megaton Hammer
from the Fire Temple to get to this Great Fairy. In Death Mountain Crater, somewhere around the top of the
climbable wall are some boulders blocking an opening in the wall which Navi
will hover green around, and say, ‘???’
Break the boulders with your hammer and go in.
Great Fairy 5 – The Great Fairy of Magic Received: Nayru’s Love
This
Great Fairy gives you the third magic spell.
In the Desert Colossus you will find a bombable wall between two palm
trees. Bomb it open and go in.
Great Fairy 6 – The Great Fairy of Courage Received: Enhanced Defence
The
last Great Fairy is found around the same place as the one who gave you Din’s
Fire, but when Link is big. Near the
broken bridge in the area around Ganon’s Castle is a big pillar that you can
lift with the Golden Gauntlets, found inside Ganon’s Castle. Lift it and go through.
