Zeldamastery:
Introduction to Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time opens with Link having a nightmare about seeing Ganondorf ride from Hyrule Castle and send an explosive shock to propel young Link back a few yards. He shivers in bed and he lets out a pathetic little whine, after which you have to feel sorry for him. He is the boy without a fairy—the only one in Kokiri. However, you must wonder if the Great Deku Tree sent him the dream. How else would he know about Ganondorf without ever leaving Kokiri? The Great Deku Tree has sent on his behalf Navi, the most annoying fairy to enter Hyrule. The receiving of the fairy is essential to Link’s development of trust between him and the Kokiri. At this point in the game, Link assumes he is a Kokiri. However, he shouldn’t be so sure since he is the only one without a fairy. He is singled out of the crowd because he is a Hylian. This is the way the Great Deku Tree had planned it. There is no way in which Link can pass through the passageway between the Kokiri Forest and the Deku Field without a fairy. Mido is catching on that Link is favored by the Great Deku Tree, and until he proves himself worthy, Link may not pass on to the first leg of his awesome adventure.
