Wednesday, March 7, 2001 - Go mad this April It'll be a mad season in April when matchbox twenty head our way. The near-triple-platinum-selling pop-rockers mark their first capital visit in three years, playing the Corel Centre April 27 at 7:30 p.m., with special guests Lifehouse. Billed (and occasionally reviled) as a smarter Hootie and the Blowfish for the modern age, matchbox twenty has enjoyed a remarkable success story. It all started with the 1997 debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You, yielding several top 10 hits and the immortal words, "It's 3 a.m., I must be lonely." The band toured relentlessly, including the Congress Centre in May 1998. The Florida band's big success came with singer Rob Thomas in a Grammy-winning duet with Carlos Santana, Smooth. It was probably the biggest song of 1999. The group is now touring to support its latest album, mad season by matchbox twenty. Tickets, at $49.50, go on sale Saturday at noon at all Ticketmaster outlets (755-1111 to charge by phone) and Sunday at the Corel Centre box-office. In other concert news, mark April 20 on your big rock calendar for the MuchLoud Tour 2001, featuring Godsmack, Econoline Crush and Kardinal Offishall. Tickets are $29 and go on sale Friday at Ticketmaster. -- Ottawa Sun staff |
