Doing Nothing A Worshipful Master found a Fellow Craft practicing meditation alone in the lodge. He asked: "What are you doing?" The FC answered: "I'm practicing doing nothing". The Master replied, “Oh really? Aren’t you sitting? Breathing? Being aware of my voice? If you are doing nothing, then why don't you really do nothing? You say ‘doing nothing,’ but what is meant by ‘doing nothing,’ or by ‘doing something’ for that matter?" The FC answered: "A thousand professors, scholars or philosophers cannot explain it, Worshipful Master. Neither could our ancient Grand Masters." After this, the Master conferred the Sublime Degree upon the Fellow Craft. |
