Peter Gower was asked by a new Master Mason, “Master, what is the greatest secret of Masonry?”
Peter Gower responded, “You tell me.”
The Master Mason said, “I think the greatest secret is that there are no secrets.”
Peter Gower said: “Some brothers look into this well and see nothing; they shout and hear only the echoes of their own voices. A true initiate of the Mysteries won’t hesitate to let his bucket descend and be filled with the cool water that flows deep in the darkness.”
"Please tell me what is my bucket, so that I may lower it."
Peter Gower closed his eyes and was silent.
