Part Two

JD:
Chris? Well, is Buck gonna go through with this?
CHRIS:
Yeah.
JD:
Good. Come 1:00, that Don is gonna get dusted. You know what I'm sayin' is that Buck's gonna take this--
CHRIS:
He's not gonna shoot me in the back, JD.
RAPHAEL:
Just what I was looking for. Salud.
JD:
Now you can leave. You're against Buck Wilmington, you're against me. Who the hell do you fellas think you are, anyway?
RAPHAEL:

We are men who value integrity more than insolence. Is this chiquito as fast as you, Senor?

JD:
Why don't you find out for yourself, Senor?
CHRIS:
Whoa, JD. Just go get some air. Go on.
WOMAN:
aah!
MAN:
aah!

MARY:
Inez? I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt you, but, uh, do you need anything?
INEZ:
I just want people to know that I didn't mean for this to happen. I never thought Don Paulo would follow me here.
MARY:
Why did he?
INEZ:
I'm a thief. You've heard, no?
MARY:
Yes. But that's not all that happened.
INEZ:
No. In the town where I'm from, I used to work for Don Paulo's father. A wealthy man, hard but fair. Don Paulo, his son, wanted me, vut I did not want him. Last month, at a feast, he got drunk. He dragged me out in the middle of the town square. He pulled me by my hair like a dog and threw me to the ground. He was going to force himself on me. I-- I-- I grabbed the first thing I could find, a broken bottle. I cut Don Paulo's neck with it and I ran. Yes... I took a horse to get away. That is my crime. Now every time Don Paulo looks at himself, he's reminded of how I humiliated him in front of everyone. That's why he's here. I'm so sorry. Senora, I did not ask Senor Buck to do what he's done.
MARY:
Oh, Inez, don't underestimate Buck or his friends. When my husband was killed, I was left alone with a son and a business, a whole town growing around me. I knew that I wanted to be a part of it all, but I just couldn't do it alone. Buck and the others, they helped me so many times. These men aren't like Don Paulo. You can trust them.

DON PAULO:
Buenas tardes, Senor. I have decided on the terms of engagement. You have until tomorrow morning, 8:00, to prepare for the fight, and you will need this.
BUCK:
What the hell are these?

DON PAULO:
The only instruments for a man of honor.
BUCK:
Now, you hold on there, fancy pants. Nobody said anything about swords. Now, around these parts, a fight is a gunfight.
DON PAULO:
No, Senor. You challenged me. The choice of weapons is mine.
BUCK:
Says you. Now, what if I say no?
DON PAULO:
If you admit defeat, the woman is mine. I shall take her, and we shall leave.
VIN:
That ain't gonna happen.
RAPHAEL:
I regret it will.
INEZ:
Desgraciado! This man is no sword fighter.
DON PAULO:
The choice is his.
EZRA:
We'll figure out another way out of this, Buck. Stand down.
DON PAULO:
Well, Senor?
BUCK:
Well, they're just long butter knives. We would wear out our boots before we do any damage with those.
DON PAULO:
We meet tomorrow morning. Inez.

BUCK:
Hyah! This isn't so bad.
EZRA:
Allow me. No, thank you. Well, hello, old friend.
JOSIAH:
When did you learn how to fight with a blade, Ezra?
EZRA:
I have, on occasion, found it necessary to defend my good name upon the field of honor.
JOSIAH:
I can believe that.
EZRA:
Although, I'll admit, it's been a while since I've held an epee.

JOSIAH:
I can believe that, too.
NATHAN:
It's called a rapier.
BUCK:
What's the difference?
NATHAN:
Epees and foils have points but not edges. Rapiers have both-- pierce and slash.
EZRA:
Well, you obviously learned the sword's various manifestations, but have you also studied its... application?
EZRA:
Do you mind explaining how you acquired this expertise?

NATHAN:
Well, it's not somethin' I like to think on. Years ago, back on the plantation, the master, Mr. Jackson, he made me into his sparring partner. We fought with bare blades, so I had to learn quick.
BUCK:
No offense, Ezra... but I think I'm switchin' teachers.

CASEY:
Sure is A lovely day. Look at all this snow.
JD:
Nice day, huh?
CASEY:
JD, where are you?
JD:
What? Oh, uh, I was just thinkin' about that fight, Buck and that guy.
CASEY:
Maybe you'd be more comfortable back in town then, huh?
JD:
I didn't mean it like that. I like ridin' with you.
CASEY:
Sure must like Inez a lot to go and fight for her.

JD:
Just met her, but that's Buck, the fool.
CASEY:
Ain't so foolish if you really feel something for a person.
JD:
I suppose not.
CASEY:
If I were Inez and you were Buck, would you fight for me?
JD:
Not with no damn sword, I wouldn't.
CASEY:
Hyah!

INEZ:
May I sit with you... my Don?
DON PAULO:
Your Don?
INEZ:
Don Paulo, I wish to go home with you. I was a fool to turn you away.
DON PAULO:
I see.
INEZ:
Let us leave tonight. Now if you wish.
DON PAULO:
So that I will not kill your Americano tomorrow? Pleading for the life of your lover!
INEZ:
No, he's not my lover!
DON PAULO:
And am I to allow him to live and have you forever wanting to return to him, huh?
INEZ:
I just met this man.
DON PAULO:
And now you will bid him farewell. Permanente.
INEZ:
Don paulo, please don't do this. In the name of your father, do not!
DON PAULO:
I will do what I please!
VIN:
No, Inez!

[gunshot]
VIN:
That ain't the way.
DON PAULO:
You've served me well, Senor. After all, I want Inez alive when I take her home.
VIN:
You'll be dead long before she goes anywhere with you.
DON PAULO:
Guillermo. It is time. Go! Raphael, you will watch Inez tonight. Guillermo will be busy.

NATHAN:
Defense, Buck! You got to keep him away and wear him down.
BUCK:
I still got to stick him with it to win, don't I? Hyaaah!

NATHAN:
To stick him with it you have to keep hold of it. You understand?
BUCK:
Yeah.
NATHAN:
Pick it up.
BUCK:
All right.
NATHAN:
Concentrate.
BUCK:
Yes. Yeah! Hah!

CHRIS:
Isn't this a little beneath you, following a woman around? Spying on her?
RAPHAEL:
I serve the house of Madera. Sometimes, serving the son is not the same as serving the father.
CHRIS:
We make our own beds.
RAPHAEL:
I owe Don Paulo's father my life.
CHRIS:
Does that mean doing everything this boy tells you to?
RAPHAEL:
It means... I do what is required.

INEZ:
Senor...this fight, it's not about you.
BUCK:
It is now.
INEZ:
You cannot beat Don Paulo.
BUCK:
And if I stand aside, and I let him take you, what kind of man would I be?
INEZ:
One that is alive. If not, you will make me responsible for your death. I cannot live with that.

BUCK:
Let me tell you something. I don't know this Don of yours. But I have met men like him. I see it in his eyes what he's got planned for you. It's a livin' hell. You tell me I'm wrong, and I'll walk away.
INEZ:
If that has to be my destiny, it is mine alone.
BUCK:
Well, I just can't live with that. Tomorrow I fight that man.

DON PAULO:
Buenos noches, Guillermo. Pico, Senores. Ha ha ha ha! Llevalos all, Guillermo.
RAPHAEL:
Senor... that is Pico Chavez.
DON PAULO:
A man who never forgets a debt.
RAPHAEL:
Ay, Don Paulo... men of honor do not associate with murderers and thieves.
DON PAULO:
Raphael, those magnificos intend to interfere, and I will not allow it. Entiendes?

[heartbeat racing]

BUCK:
No, no, no, no...
JD:
Nooo!
BUCK:
JD!

BUCK:
It was like... I was still there. The Seminole village... the Colonel... and his sword when he... do you think it's a sign?

JOSIAH:
Yeah, it's a sign. It's a sign you're scared. Fear is part of who we are, Buck. Every time we go into a fight, I know there's a piece of me wonders if I'm gonna come through it. I can feel it in my hands... my head, my gut.
BUCK:
No gunfight ever made me feel like this.
JOSIAH:
Well, it's all right. God gives ya fear 'cause... fear helps you fight. God wants you to fight 'cause he wants ya to live.
BUCK:
So do you--you think this, uh, this dream's a sign that I'm gonna win?
JOSIAH:
Unless it's your time to die.

JD:
You see all these people gathering to see Buck's fight?

VIN:
Not all of 'em. Pico Chavez's gang.
EZRA:
I don't imagine they're here to take a hot bath, either.
JOSIAH:
God is with you, Buck. And if he ain't, we are.
NATHAN:
If you keep him away, you can wear him down. If you attack, he'll kill you.

BUCK:
Right. Chris.
CHRIS:
I know we don't always see things eye to eye, but I stand by you.
BUCK:
All right.
CHRIS:
You ready?

BUCK:
Not even close.

VIN:
We got company.
INEZ:
Senor Buck... here. It is a custom. For luck.
BUCK:
Would you do me the honor of holding my hat?
DON PAULO:
After I have had my satisfaction... my men and I will leave. I will take the woman... and no one will interfere.
[guns cocking]
INEZ:
I will never go with you alive.
DON PAULO:
After this, Senorita... you will do whatever I want.
NATHAN:
Remember, Buck, defense, ok? No lunges, no charges. Make him come to you.
BUCK:
Right.
NATHAN:
You understand?

BUCK:
Yeah. Stop all the preening and let's get on with this. Rrrrrr!
NATHAN:
No!
CHRIS:
Let's go, Buck! Get him!
NATHAN:
Keep away from him, Buck! Defense!
EZRA:
Atta boy!
JD:
Get him, Buck!
NATHAN:
No! Keep away from him! Good. Good.
DON PAULO:
Very impressive, Senor. I see you have been practicing.
BUCK:
Just like whippin' a mule.

NATHAN:
No! Come on, Buck, defense! Keep away from him!
DON PAULO:
Now I think you will not move so well.

BUCK:
[groans]
NATHAN:
Come on, Buck! End this right now!
BUCK:
No! [gasps]
DON PAULO:
Y ahora... muerte, Senor.
GUILLERMO:
Ah!
INEZ:
No!
DON PAULO:
Guillermo! Shoot them!

DON PAULO:
Raphael?

VIN:
Buenos dias.

EZRA:
Morning, gentlemen.
EZRA:
JD, heads up!

BUCK:
You don't deserve it, but you leave now... then you can live.

DON PAULO:
Inez!

CHRIS:
Buck!

JOSIAH:
Fate's lookin' kindly on us today, don't you think, JD?
JD:
Well, we're all still alive.

JOSIAH:
Yes, sir. And did fortune smile on you and your belle amour last evening?
JD:
If she ever talks to me again.
JOSIAH:
Well, then... let me give you a piece of advice. What you want to do is buy that girl a frog gigger.

RAPHAEL:
I could grow fond of a place like this, Senor, But after today, Don Paulo's father will put a price on my head.
CHRIS:
Where will you go?
RAPHAEL:
Perhaps I will find 6 compadres of my own. Care to join me?
CHRIS:
Who knows what tomorrow brings?
RAPHAEL:
Hola, chiquito.
JD:
Hey, fellas.
RAPHAEL:
Still, it is too bad for you and me. Now we will never know who is the faster.

RAPHAEL:
Magnifico!

CHRIS:
You needed a new one anyway.

NATHAN:
You're gonna have to take it easy for a while, Buck. Some of those cuts went deep.
BUCK:
Don't you worry, Nathan. I'll be hangin' up the sword for a while.
NATHAN:
You did good.
BUCK:
Thank you, sir. Hey, Ezra, I hear you won some money off of me. I get a piece of that?

EZRA:
You, uh... you care to fight me for it? Hey!
INEZ:
Senor Buck... it would be wrong for me not to thank you for all you've done, so... gracias.
BUCK:
Oh, I'll bet that was hard for you to say.

INEZ:
You have no idea.

BUCK:
Well, Senorita, I accept your thanks, but if you really want to make it up to me, how about you and me doin' a little somethin' tonight?
INEZ:
How about right now?
BUCK:
Uh...
INEZ:
Now we're even.
BUCK:
Well, all right.
