ZENON ESCAPE

CHAPTER FOUR

By the time the power got back on, Zenon and the gang were up on the main deck where Microbe’s quarters were. They were stopped temporarily by Commander Plank and when they were talking to him, `Dro continued on to her room. She picked up her phone and dialed one of her friends down on Earth. “Hello?”

“Drew, its Andromeda. Listen, I need you to get a transport up here immediately.”

“Transport?”

“You know. Space ship!!!”

“`Dro, McC has forbidden transportation up there for the next couple of days.”

“WHAT?!?”

“Yea. He’s afraid that Halley’s Comet will collide with one of them when it comes around.”

“Drew, listen to me. The stupid comet - forget about it! Its going to collide with the spay-stay itself if I don’t do something!”

“Spay-stay?”

“Never mind…”

“Anyway, why don’t you have someone down here do it?”

“There are only two people in the whole company who know the codes for the spay…err, space station. Me and Mr. McC. I know it can cost me my job but I have to try.”

“Okay,” he said. “I know of one which is ready. I should be there within an hour.”

“Great. I’ll get my things and meet you at the docking bay when you get here.”

“Okay. Signing off…” Both people signed off at the same time. She began to get her suitcase and began throwing her clothes inside it.

Zenon along with Nebula and Orion came into her room. “What are you doing?”

Andromeda looked up and said, “I have a transport coming for me within the hour. I’m going to see if there is anything I can do for this station.”

“You do know,” Orion said, “that if you pull it in too much or push it away too much this station can…”

“Yes, Orion. I am well aware of that. I’ll just have to make everything temporary until the comet passes and then I’ll have to reset it to default.”

“What if it fails?”

“We’ll just have to hope it doesn’t come down to that, now won’t we?” The woman slammed down her suitcase lid and said, “Send the rest of my stuff back to my house after this is over. My ride should be here any minute.” She pushed past Proto Zoa, who had just appeared in the doorway.

“`Dro?” She didn’t answer - she just kept on hurrying down the hallway (which was clearer than it was earlier in the day.) He looked over to Orion who nodded. The man then took off after her - his only love.

“Andromeda!” She finally stopped when she reached the docking bays. Turning around, she saw Zoa run up to her.

“Yea?”

“There’s…something I have to tell you.”

“What? My ride’s going to be here any minute now.”

“How do I put this…um, every time I see you and am around you, I don’t act like myself. Its weird, I know. But, what I’ve been wanting to say is that…I love you.” Andromeda’s breath stopped as she looked into his eyes. Was this some sort of rock star right now just trying to get a one-night stand? No - the look in his eyes told her that he was just an ordinary man at that time - one which was in love with the most beautiful woman he had ever met. Yes, there was only one thing she had to do.

Time stopped as their lips slowly met. It was the best kiss Andromeda (and most likely Proto Zoa) had ever had. After they pulled apart from each other, he embraced her and they stayed like that for awhile, until they heard someone clear their throat behind them. She turned around and saw her friend Drew standing there. “Come on,” he said. “We’ve got to go now. I’m almost certain McC has found out about me hijacking the ship which I have.”

“Okay,” she said picking up her suitcase. She looked back and said, “Wait for me…”

“I’ll wait forever,” he said brushing a lock of hair out of her eyes. Drew motioned for her to follow and she did just that, glancing back one last time at her love.

~*~*~

She sat down next to her friend in the cockpit. “Have you ever heard of soul mates, Andromeda?”

“Yea,” she said looking down. “My friends told me about them when I was younger.”

“You don’t think…?”

“That Zoa’s my soul mate? Yea. I only met him a few days ago, and yet I feel like I’ve known him my whole life.” As he started up the launching procedures, she could here a song playing somewhere else on the ship. “Is anyone else here?”

“Yea - Michelle’s somewhere.” She leaned back and listened:

stargazing mega fast
you hit me like a cosmic blast
you've given me a Technicolor world
putting me in overdrive
speed of light, I'm so alive
could you be my supernova girl?
interplanetary, mega stellar, hydrostatic
there's no gravity between us
our love is automatic …

“Zoa…” As they pulled away from the station, she could see Zenon and Orion joining him. She gazed through the window until she couldn’t anymore.

“You’d better get some sleep, Dro. We’re going to have to hurry up - the comet comes by here in about two hours.”

“Yea. Wake me before we land. I’ll get right off and find the computer which deals with the spay-stay and immediately get to work.”

“Will you want me to find McC and clue him in on what’s going on?”

“No. If he comes in while I’m doing it, I’ll explain it. If I lose my job, oh well.” She got up and found a chair. Getting comfortable, she fell asleep formulating a plan.
