SEVEN SOULS

“It’s a girl,” announced the doctor. Eric and Amanda Giancarlo just had
their first baby. They were a wealthy couple, who lived a simple lifestyle
in Italy.
“Have you decided on a name, Mr. and Mrs. Giancarlo?” asked the nurse. Eric
and Amanda smiled at each other then looked at the baby in Amanda’s arms.
“Phoebe,” Amanda said gazing at their beautiful baby. “Her name is Phoebe
after her great grandmother”
It was a very special morning for Eric and Amanda because it was the first
day of them being parents of an extra special child. By afternoon that day,
they had already reached home. Upon arriving their house, they received a
warm welcome from some of their relatives. For a while they had a short
celebration of the birth.
“Thank you for coming!” Eric said standing at the front door as the last of
their relatives left. By now, the sky was already sparkling with stars.
After he waved goodbye, he went back inside to check on Amanda and the
baby. As quietly as he could, he entered the baby room. Inside, Amanda was
rocking the baby to sleep. She stood up and gently placed the baby in her
crib.
“Do you think she’ll be safe here?” whispered Amanda worriedly to Eric as
he slowly approached the crib.
“Don’t worry. She’ll be fine,” Eric comforted her. With his arms on her
shoulders, he said, “Come on, her guardian angel will be watching her for
us tonight as we sleep. Let’s call it a day.” They silently left the
sleeping baby and went on to bed.
The night was dark and silent. Nothing was of the unusual until a crash
came about and woke Amanda. Alarmed, she woke Eric and told him to check on
what made the crash. Half awake, Eric pulled a revolver out of his bedside
drawer to arm himself. He stood up, holding the nozzle of the revolver on
his left hand while rubbing his eyes with his other hand. He transferred
the revolver to his right hand as he walked to the door and entered the
hallway. Waiting for Eric to come back, Amanda grew impatient and very
nervous that she decided to follow him. But first, she decided to check on
the baby.
“Eric?” she called after him as she went out of their room. No answer came
and she became more and more tense.
“Eric?” she called again. Still, no answer came and she hurried to the baby
room. Just before she entered the room, she heard a loud thud from inside
the room. She swiftly opened the door and entered the room. Inside, Eric
was on the floor motionless and two men in black leather suits were
standing by the window and one of them was carrying Phoebe who surprisingly
was still sleeping. The crash apparently came from the lamp which used to
stand beside the rocking chair and is now on the `floor broken. Almost,
immediately, she raised her hand in front of her with her palm facing the
two men. She was about to say something but before she could, a bright red
flash emerged from the two and was thrown back causing her to knock head on
the edge of the door. As the flash disappeared, the two men did too,
leaving Amanda on the floor bleeding and taking the baby with them.

In a gigantic bustling laboratory, the two men appeared. In the middle of
the laboratory was a glass cylinder big enough for about five people to fit
in. Everyone in the laboratory was in lab coats but the two men and one
huge man standing near the glass cylinder talking with who appeared to be
one of the head scientists. The huge man was wearing a black business suit
with a flaming red tie. He seemed to be a man in his forties who had
completely white hair and scarlet red eyes. The two leather-coated men
approached the red-eyed man to present the baby.
“Sire,” the one carrying the baby said bowing before the red-eyed man and
bringing forward the baby.
“Excellent, put her in the tube,” the red-eyed man said. Immediately, the
two men faced the glass cylinder and placed their right palms against the
glass. From their hands drew a purple glow which spread to the rest of the
glass. The one carrying the baby placed the baby into the cylinder
penetrating the glowing purple glass. When he let go of the baby, she
floated. As soon as the men let go of the glass, the glow disappeared and
except for her face, the baby was completely covered with silver metallic
matter.
“The offspring of two powerful beings. The perfect source for more power!”
the red-eyed men muttered to himself looking at the baby in the tube.
As time passed by, they taught Phoebe how to use her power so that she can
exercise and develop it. They found out that she uses most of her power
when she uses teleportation and the more she knows, the more her power
develops. For years they practiced her power and fed her information as if
it were her daily food. Along with her growing powers, of course, she,
physically, also grew. Her physical qualities weren’t apparent when she was
in the glass cylinder where she rested, but when she was brought out, you
can see her soft and flawless white skin, beautiful sparkling silver eyes
and her silky, soft straight brown hair which had grown long over the
years.
One night, while the laboratory was empty and the only light source was
from the glass cylinder, two figures were sneaking around. One of them was
a woman, the other a man. The man went to look at Phoebe in the glass
cylinder and the woman went to a computer with a huge screen at one side of
the lab. After inserting a disc, she started typing some things into the
computer.
“Hurry up, Lara! The alarm might go off any second now!” the man whispered
to the woman as he looked into what looked like a stopwatch in his hand.
“I’m going as fast as I could,” the woman answered back typing slightly
faster now.
“Three minutes to go! Come on, come on!” he said looking at the screen
where the woman was working.
“Keep your pants on! I just need to enter her new birth date and,” she
stopped for a moment, “there! Now we can release her,”
“Great!” he said approaching her. “What’s wrong?” the woman had a worried
look on her face.
“I can’t open the tube”
“Let’s just break the glass then,” he suggested and started to pick up a
chair.
“Alan! No!! You’ll trip the alarm if you do!” she said blocking him, as he
was about to hit the glass with the chair.
“So what? It’s about to go off in a minute anyway,” he said positioning
himself to break the glass again.
“I’m warning you, it’s not going to be easy getting out of here,” she said.
“Shut up and step aside,” he said pushing her away. He lifted the chair and
then, with the chair, he hit the glass breaking it and causing Phoebe to
fall. Just before she hit the floor, the man dropped the chair and caught
Phoebe. The silver matter had disappeared and Phoebe’s hair flowed down to
the floor. At once, the alarm broke out. At the same time, the woman picked
up her long hair, placed it on Phoebe and covered her with a blanket she
pulled out from a backpack she brought with her.
“Activating total lock down,” the computer said and metal plates started to
seal the doors and windows.
“Come on, grab the disk and let’s go!” the man yelled over the siren. The
woman swiftly ran to the computer while the man started heading for the
door apparently taking the weight of Phoebe like a feather. Just as the
doors sealed, they slipped right through.
“That was close,” the man said barely making it all the way through.
“Don’t be so cozy, we’re not out of the web yet!” she stated walking
forward and bringing out something similar to a palm pilot. Looking at the
palm pilot, she went ahead to the intersection in the hallway. She faced
left, then right and pointed to forward saying, “This way,” looking back
into the palm pilot. Both of them started running and following the
hallway. Soon enough, they encountered another intersection.
“Which way?” The man asked looking back to see if anybody was following
them. The woman consulted her palm pilot.
“Here but,” the woman looked to the left and then back to her palm pilot.
“But what?”
“According to this, there are guards coming from there”
“So, can’t we go here?” he pointed to the other direction.
“No, that’ll take us deeper into the building”
“Well where do you suggest we pass?” he asked her panicking. The woman
looked up and they saw the ventilation system.
“Oh, that’s a classic!” the man said ironically.
“There’s no other way, Give me a boost,” the woman said putting her palm
pilot back into her pocket. The man put Phoebe down and helped the woman up
the ventilation system. She removed the screen and got in. Fortunately, the
building had a large ventilation system. Once she was up, the man followed
her up carrying Phoebe over his shoulders. He had no trouble getting up for
he was tall and the vent wasn’t that high up. Together, the crawled their
way in the ventilation system.
“Is it me or is there a breeze in here?” the man asked as they crawled.
“Of course there’s a breeze. We’re in a vent!” the woman answered in an
irritated tone.
“Yeah, but don’t you think it’s getting stronger?”
“And I know why,” she said stopping making the man bump into her.
“Ouch! Huh? What?” he looked forward and saw a ventilation fan up ahead
blocking their way. Since it was spinning fast, they could not go through
it without stopping it first. “Now what do we do?”
“Did you pack the hydro freeze gun?” she asked while rummaging through the
backpack.
“Yeah, I think I did”
“What was that?” she stopped and said out of the blue.
“What?” he asked. They heard the sound of the vent giving in.
“Oh man!” Suddenly, a red ray sprang up right in between the man and the
woman, just missing them both.
“Come on! We’ve got to move!!” the man said grabbing an item from the
backpack. The woman followed the man back to where they came from, thinking
twice of what she was doing.
“If we go this way, we’ll just go back where we came from!” the woman said
as they crawled their way back.
“We’re not going back,” he said stopping at an intersection. “Go, hurry,”
instructing the woman to go into another way. He removed Phoebe from his
shoulder and passed it to the woman. Then, he took the item he pulled out
from the bag earlier. It was a grenade.
“Get ready for fireworks,” the man said throwing the grenade towards the
fan landing it just beyond the fan. Immediately, he joined the woman and
both covered their ears and closed their eyes, getting ready for an
explosion. Luckily, they were just far enough that the explosion barely
reached them. As soon as the explosion cleared and seeing that the fan had
been destroyed, they swiftly crawled toward it, the man carrying Phoebe on
his shoulder again. Finally, they had a way out.
“Get out your jet pack. We’re flying out of here,” the woman said. The end
of vent led outside one wall of the building, which was on top of a cliff
with a hundred-story drop. Both of them jumped out of the building and as
soon as they did, started their jet packs, flying to the mountains.

The alarm clock woke Izzy one morning from her dream.
“Morning already?” she said lazily. Even though she hated waking up, she
enjoyed going to school. After staring at her pink silky four-poster bed’s
ceiling for about five minutes, she stood up and stretched her arms out.
Rubbing her silvery gray eyes, she walked to her dresser to brush her long
straight shiny brown hair. After and in her nightgown, she walked through
her walk-in closet filled with hundreds of her clothes and into her gold
plated bathroom. She took a bath and got ready for school. In her pink
striped sleeveless blouse, pink satin skirt, and white stilettos, She went
to eat breakfast, grabbing her white shoulder bag on her way out of her
room. Izzy walked down the elegant hallway to the landing where a portrait
of her, her mother, Lara Clarence and her dad, Alan Clarence was hung.
Walking down the marble staircase, she thought of the dream that she had.
How the man and the woman looked so much like her parents.
“Morning mom. Morning dad,” she said kissing them on the cheek. She had a
quick breakfast and drove to school in her silver beamer. It was the first
day of classes for her junior year and her very best friend had just
transferred out of their school, Richmont High.
“Ugh! Why’d Katrina needed to move anyway? She had a good life here,” she
said sadly as she entered her homeroom class. She sat down in a chair in
the second row and brought out a book. She opened it and started to read.
“Hi!” a voice said. Izzy looked up from her book and saw two girls smiling
at her. One had straight hair and the other had curly hair. They were about
the same height.
“I’m Kyla,” said the straight haired girl, “and this is Lee”.
“Hi, friends call me Izzy,” Izzy said as she put down her book and shook
Kyla and Lee’s hands. The bell rang.
“Wanna hang with us at recess?” Lee asked as she sat down next to her.
“Settle down class” their teacher said as she entered the room.
“Sure,” Izzy replied. Kyla sat down beside Lee.
“Good morning class, I’m Miss Simone. I’ll be your adviser for this school
year. I see some familiar faces,” she said smiling while looking at
everyone in the room. “Let’s have the attendance, shall we?” She picked up
a red clipboard and a pen and started calling out names.
“Sarah Avenson?”
“Here”
“Michael Bart?”
“Here”
“Kenisha Clarence?”
“Here”
“Joseph Francis?”
“Here”
“Scarlet McCoy?”
“Here”
“Laureen McGregor”
“Here”
When the Last name was called, she said, “Well, that seems to be all. Great
everyone’s here! I’ll be giving you your schedules for the first semester.”
She pulled out strips of paper from an envelope she brought with her and
started calling names again. Izzy, Lee and Kyla compared their schedules.
“Great!” Kyla said, “We’re all in the same classes except for language,
math and arts!” Kyla also had Spanish and Latin in addition to French. Izzy
had advanced algebra for her math class. For Lee, she had the arts class,
which included sculpting, painting and molding.
“Since I’ve given you all that has to be given, I’ll introduce myself to
those who aren’t familiar with me,” she said as she stood in front of the
teacher’s table. “Again, I’m Miss Simone, Mary Simone. I’ve taught here for
five years. I teach computer multimedia to junior students.”
RRIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNGGGG! “There’s the bell. See you guys in computer class!”
Everyone exited the room and proceeded to their next class.
“What do we have next?” Lee asked.
“Chemistry” Izzy answered.
“Chem, I heard it was tough,” said Kyla with an annoyed tone.
“We’ll just have to find out” Izzy said as they entered the Chemistry room.
Izzy noticed a pony-tailed girl waving at their direction. “Uhm, do you
know her?” Izzy asked Kyla and Lee. The two looked in the direction Izzy
was pointing at.
“Yeah, she’s Soleil, Liel for short,” Lee said as she waved back. Kyla
walked toward Liel’s direction and pulled Izzy along.
“Hi Kyla, Lee. You must be Kenisha, the student council’s new vice
president right?” Liel said finally putting down her hand.
“Yeah, call me Izzy,” replied Izzy. She, Lee and Kyla sat together with
Liel and another girl.
“So, have you seen the new president? I heard he’s cute! I’m Missy by the
way,” said the other girl.
“Nice to meet you and no, he hasn’t been in our meetings since he was out
of the country and just came back today,” explained Izzy.
“Your attention please!” said an unmanly flat voice.
“I will be your chemistry teacher for the year. My name is Mister Hyggins,”
announced the short chubby man up front. Mr. Hyggins discussed all the
topics to be taken up for the year and he also stated his requirements for
the class. After which they had recess.
They approached the canteen and sat with two other girls, seniors. One had
her hair up in a whacky style and the other had a skin white as snow and
asian eyes.
“Hey Ryz, J. This is Izzy, Lee and I presume you already know Kyla and
Missy,” Liel introduced the four. “And this is Ryz,” the whacky haired girl
gestured a hi, “and J,” the asian snow white waved. They all sat together
and talked to each other until the bell rang and they went on to their
respective classes. After classes they had lunch in the cafeteria. It was a
long line but with Kyla with you, lines didn’t matter. Although Izzy
thought of protesting, she didn’t. She was very hungry so she didn’t
bother. After classes, Kyla invited everyone to the mall.
“Sorry guys, I’m heading to the library,” Izzy said sadly.
“Why?” Missy asked. It’s the only place I know that already has HP 6,” she
reasoned.
“Oh, and I have to meet up with Ralph,” Ryz said softly so as not to make
it look like she was excited.
“Okay. See you guys tomorrow then!” Kyla said in a happier tone. Ryz and
Izzy said their goodbyes to the group and they split up. Ryz headed for the
cafeteria while Izzy went for the library and the others walked out the
gate to Kyla’s Limo.
The school was still filled with students. The library was four stories
high and had a roman style of architecture. She entered through the
library’s spinning door. She went to the fiction section, which was on the
right side of the first floor. She went through the shelves looking for the
book. Finally, she found the book. It was lying in the third level of the
shelf. She bent down and reached for the book. As she got the book, she
felt a tug at the other end. She pulled it toward her and something pulled
it back again. She saw a guy, which she thought was good-looking but denied
it a second later.
“Excuse me but I saw this book first,” she said politely.
“Uh…no,” the guy said and pulled it back hard that it slipped through her
fingers.
“Ugh!” she said angrily. Izzy wanted to fight back but decided not to.
Still, she really wanted that book. Suddenly, the book appeared in front of
her and landed on the floor with a loud thud.
“Hey! How’d you get that?!” someone said as she picked up the book. She
looked up and saw the guy standing at the end of the aisle, dumbstruck.
“Beats me,” she said as she bolted to the librarian’s desk to check it out
leaving the guy confused.
“Well that was weird! But at least I got my book!” she thought. On her way
to her car, she thought of the guy. How he was such a jerk.
The next morning, she forgot all about the library incident. She woke up at
five as usual and had breakfast. After which she cleaned up and got ready
for school. She kissed her parents good-bye and went to school.
“Hey, there’s our student council president,” Liel said as they walked down
the corridor. She pointed to a guy in a gray shirt and khaki pants who was
reading something by his locker.
“That’s the president?!” Izzy said in shock. “Ugh, he’s such a jerk!”
“He’s hot,” Missy said.
“Every guy’s hot to missy,” Kyla teased as they entered the cafeteria and
sat down.
“Nah-uh!” she said back.
“Go ahead, take him. I’ve got nothing against it,” Izzy said.
“Well, his name is Daniel Richards and he’s super smart. He spends most of
his time in the library,” J said.
“Ugh! The library,” Izzy said.
“I thought you liked the library Izzy,” Lee said.
“Well…” she was cut-off by the bell. She just shook her head. They headed
for their respective classrooms.
An announcement came later that week. “There will be an inter-school quiz
bee at the end of the year. Each year level will have their own quiz bees
to determine who will make-up our school’s team. One student from each year
will be chosen for our team. That is all,” the intercom announced.
“Cool! A quiz-bee!!” Izzy said excitedly. Ryz made a big attention catching
yawn, which Izzy just ignored.
“Anyway, you guys up to the mall tomorrow?” Kyla asked as they continued
their walk.
“Sure! I need to search for a theme for our dance. Maybe I’ll get some
ideas there,” Izzy said.
“No complains here,” Ryz said.
“I’m game!” Liel said.
“I’ve got nothing planned,” J said.
“We’re in!” Missy and Lee said in unison.
“Great! I’ll pick you guys up first thing in the morning,” Kyla said. By
now, they were at the exit of the building.
“Hey, I’ve got a meeting. So, see you all tomorrow?” Izzy said. Each one
said yeah sure in their own way. Izzy continued on to the hallway to her
right while the others went out the building. As she approached the office,
she saw Daniel enter.
“Maybe he isn’t really a jerk. Let’s see what you really are,” she thought
as she entered the office. The office was similar to a boardroom. Seven
people including Daniel were already inside.
“Well, well, Ms. Vice-president. Finally we’re complete!” Daniel stated.
“You just came in yourself, Mr. President,” Izzy fought back. “I just went
to the drinking fountain,” he said in defense.
“Let’s start. About the dance, Kenisha is it? Can I just call you by your
second name? Do you have a second name?.” He asked.
“Danyelle,” she answered.
“Cool. Okay, Elle, I’ll need the theme by Monday. Moving on to the quiz-
bees announced a while ago, the batch representatives will be in-charge of
arrangements. The questions will be given to you by sometime next week.
Next, the fair, I’m still negotiating with the principal if it’s going to
push through. Any questions so far?”
“The dance will be held at the gym right?” Izzy asked.
“Yes, but if you have another venue, it’s fine as long as it’s near,” he
answered. “Anymore questions?” No one said anything. “Since there’s nothing
else to discuss, you can all go now,” he said. Everyone stood up and walked
out the door.
“Okay, he wasn’t a jerk at our meeting but I still get the feeling he is,”
Izzy concluded to herself as she went out the school and into her limo.
She woke up early the next morning as usual. “Saturday!” she said as she
stood from her soft pink silk four-poster bed. In her white nightgown, she
walked to the bathroom to wash-up. After, she picked her outfit from
hundreds of clothes in her walk-in closet. Finally, she chose a white
spaghetti strap top under a pink see-through off-shoulder with a red-
checkered mini-skirt to match. For her shoes she wore white strappy
sandals. After dressing, she grabbed her mobile phone, palm pilot, lip-
gloss, brush, handkerchief and wallet and put them into her white leather
handbag. She went downstairs to eat her breakfast. Her parents were already
there, reading the paper and eating. She sat down with them and after
eating she said
“I’m going to the mall with girls.” A car outside beeped.
“That must be them,” Izzy said. She kissed her parents goodbye.
“Okay dear. Take care,” her mom said still reading the paper.
“Where’s Kyla?” Izzy asked while she got into the limo.
“She’s still in her closet picking out her clothes. She told us to pick you
up first to save time,” Lee answered.
“It takes Kyla forever to pick out her clothes,” Missy said.
“Let’s hope she’s done when we get back,” Ryz said as the limo headed to
Kyla’s house. When they got back, Kyla was already outside eager to go to
the mall.
“Well finally!” she said as she got into the vehicle.
“Finally? Look who’s talking’!” Ryz said.
Kyla just ignored her and said, “Come on, let’s get moving!” They headed to
the mall. It was a short trip because traffic was light. They circled the
mall and passed a store which had bats, cobwebs and pumpkins decorated all
over.
“They’re early” Missy said looking at the store’s window. Everyone stopped
and looked as well.
“I got it!” Izzy exclaimed “We’ll have a Halloween dance!” “Yeah! Let’s
have a contest for who’s got the best costume as well!” Kyla added.
“Cool! C’mon let’s get our costume now!” Liel said. They all entered the
store. Inside, there were more pumpkins, cobwebs and bats. On one side, kid
costumes were displayed and adult costumes on the other. In the center was
the cashier and fitting rooms were at the back. A number of boxes were
piled up at the sides of the store. Not much people were in the store. The
seven went over to the adult costumes to search for their own. Izzy went
over to the side to look for her costume.
"WATCH OUT!" someone shouted all of a sudden.
Izzy looked up and saw one of the boxes fall in front if her. The stack of
boxes behind her was hit with a toy arrow from the Indian costumes and fell
unto Izzy. Everyone in the stored zoomed their vision on the fallen boxes.
“Izzy!” the six exclaimed and rushed over to the boxes. They dug through
the boxes.
“She’s not here,” Liel said.
“Over here,” a voice said. They looked over the rack next to the fallen
piles and saw Izzy on the floor with a stunned expression. All were
surprised to see her there.
“Are you okay?” J said helping her up. Izzy nodded.
“Weren’t you over here?” Ryz said pointing over to the pile of boxes.
“I-I-I guess I moved,” she said still confused. There was a moment of
silence.
“Let’s just be glad you’re okay,” J said. “Yeah, let’s just pay and get out
of here,” Izzy said.
The next Monday they acted as if nothing unusual happened during their trip
to the mall. The bell rang as usual and Izzy, Lee, Missy, Kyla and Liel sat
down in their Chemistry class.
“Ooh, remind me to tell Richards of the theme at break time,” Izzy said to
the group. Chemistry class was extremely boring for them except for Izzy
who was very busy taking notes and reciting. The bell rang once again
signaling the end of the class and the start of recess.
“How can you stand to be awake in chem class?!” Kyla asked Izzy.
“I don’t know. Somehow I just like the subject. It’s really very
interesting,” she answered as they went into the hall.
“Hey Iz, It’s president hottie,” Missy said.
“What?” Izzy said turning around. She saw Daniel Richards in the drinking
fountain. “Oh, I forgot you’ve got a crush on Mr. President,” Izzy teased.
She went over to Daniel and told him the theme. After a few words and nods
she came back to the group.
“He said it’ll do,” Izzy said to the group.
“Great!” Liel said. They walked on to the stone tables to meet up with Ryz
and J for lunch. Ryz was, as usual, sleeping while J was reading her
textbook.
“Hey guys,” Liel said.
“Hi,” J said back looking up from her textbook. The five sat down with J
and Ryz and ate their lunch.
“We’re pushing through with the Halloween theme,” she reported to the two
seniors.
“Cool,” Ryz said. She wasn’t really sleeping.
So what are you guys planning to be?” Liel asked.
“I’m planning to be a witch,” Lee said.
“Me? Pixie!!” Missy said.
“Ohh, I’ll be a princess!” Kyla said.
“Hey, I got an idea. Let’s dress Liel up!! Since she’s always so boyish in
style let’s turn her inside-out since she’s really girly inside,” Kyla
suggested.
“Yeah!” Missy said.
“Uh..no you are not doing that to me! No, no,” Liel said shaking her head
and leaning back while everyone else except Ryz leaned toward her. “No!”
she said again.
“I’m fine with that just don’t ever do that to me,” Ryz said finally
sitting up.
“What else should we have?” Izzy asked. “Besides the costume contest”
“How ‘bout a treasure hunting in the school. No lights except flashlights
and we’ll set-up some freaky stuff in the building!” Ryz suggested.
“Cool! Wait, I better write this down,” Izzy said as she brought out a
notebook and pen and started writing Ryz’s idea.
“Let’s have a picture booth so we have souvenirs,” J said. Again, Izzy
wrote it down.
“Wait, what’s the price for the contest?” Kyla asked.
“I haven’t thought of that,” Izzy said.
“Ah! You could invite some celebrities to come and give them a kiss or
something,” Missy told Kyla.
“Great! Can you do that for us Kyla?” Izzy told Kyla while scribbling in
her notebook.
“That’s easy. Who do you want?” She asked. Everybody started thinking.
"How ‘bout John Zeger? He was so hot in Heaven and Hell,” Missy said.
"I know Kevin Johns! He’s to die for!” Kyla said. “Yeah! I hope I win,”
Missy said.
“Speaking of winning, who’ll be the judge?” Lee asked.
“I’ll get some fashion designers to be the judges,” Izzy said.
“How about for the guys?” Kyla said.
“Let’s get Jessica Match,” Liel said
“She’s shooting her sequel,” Kyla said.
“Miles Sanchez then? She and Kevin Johns look good together,” Liel
suggested.
“Okay, so it’s settled. Kevin Johns and Miles Sanchez,” Izzy said.
“Okay I’ll call them up tonight,” Kyla said. The bell rang.
“See you guys later. My house okay?” Kyla said. Everyone agreed and went to
their classes.
After classes, they all headed to Kyla’s house. “Why are we here again?”
Ryz asked looking around.
“We need to train Liel for the Halloween dance,” Kyla said.
“Training? What do I need training for?” Liel asked.
“How to stand for example,” Kyla said as they walked to her room.
“What!?” Liel exclaimed.
“Look at you! Your posture is terrible! You need to straighten up,” Kyla
said straightening Liel’s back. They arrived at Kyla’s room. They all
entered and sat down.
“We’ll need to do something about her sit as well,” Izzy said. Liel was
slouching on Kyla’s armchair with one of her legs on the armrest.
Immediately, she put it down.
“What’ll we dress her up as anyway?” Ryz asked.
“Let’s make her Aphrodite,” Kyla said.
“We’ll go shopping for her clothes next week,” she added.
“What are we waiting for? Let’s start,” Missy said. Kyla and Missy
practiced Liel almost everyday before the dance. First, they practiced her
walk. They placed a book on her head for balance. After a while they made
her wear high heels along with the book. Next, they trained her to sit
crossed legged every time she sat down, even in school. The training was
successful but sometimes she still forgets. They bought her pink Stiletto
sandals, a red plunging, and backless, long roman costume with a slit until
below her hips. They also got her a matching pink handbag, red choker, gold
bangles and gold dangling earrings. Meanwhile, Izzy, J, Ryz and Lee took
charge of arranging the dance.
“Did you hear? Ryz punched Ralph!” Izzy heard as she passed the corridor a
few days before the dance.
“Must be another Ryz,” she said to herself. “Avalon? Yeah, she hit Ralph,”
A girl said as she passed by.
“Hm, I guess I should talk to her before this reaches the principal,” she
said turning on a corner. As she made her way to the stone tables, she
passed by Kyla, Missy, Lee and Liel and dragged them along as well. At the
stone tables, Ryz was speaking with J. As soon as they noticed the others
coming they stopped their conversation.
“Well?” Izzy said looking Ryz straight in the eye.
“Well what?” Ryz said avoiding her stare.
“Did you or did you not punch a guy?” Izzy said.
“Dunno what you’re talkin’ about,” she replied.
“Oh come on,” Izzy said. J sighed and said,
“We’d better take this elsewhere.” She stood up but Ryz stayed put. J
rolled her eyes and held Ryz by the arm.
“Hey! That hurt!” Ryz exclaimed. They all went into an empty
classroom. “Ryz you’ve got to stop doing this,” Kyla said as they sat down
Ryz down. Izzy remained standing while the others sat down in a circular
arrangement. J sat down beside Ryz.
“So? Why’d you do it?” Izzy asked Ryz calmly.
“He was annoying,” she replied.
“That’s it? You punched him because he was annoying?!” Kyla exclaimed as
she stood up.
“Look, it was like one of your old boyfriends trying to get you back,” she
explained.
“Don’t you compare yourself with me! I am NOTHING like you,” Kyla said. Ryz
seemed very angry now for her fists were clamped at her sides. A Moment
later, she noticed Ryz’s hand sort of like disappearing. Ryz noticed Izzy
looking at her hand and immediately stopped what she was doing.
“Okay, what was that?” Izzy asked stopping Kyla in the middle of scolding
Ryz.
“What was what??” Kyla said irritated.
“That thing you did with you hand,” Izzy said to Ryz.
“I didn’t do anything,” she replied. The others leaned closer.
“Yes you did. Your hand was transparent! I saw it with my own two eyes!”
Izzy said trying to make sense of what she just saw.
“You better tell them,” J said. “Tell us what?” Lee said.
“Okay, I can’t exactly explain it so I’ll demonstrate it instead. Besides,
you wouldn’t believe me without me showing you,” she said standing up.
“Oh for Pete’s sake!” Kyla said. Then. Ryz pointed at Kyla.
“Can we please get back t-“ she suddenly froze. Everyone looked at Kyla.
She wasn’t moving. They all set their eyes back on Ryz.
“See?” She said as she waved her hand. Kyla dropped to her knees and
breathed heavily. Izzy, Liel and Lee were confused. Again, Ryz pointed but
to a couple of girls outside the window. They froze. After, Ryz again,
waved her hand and the girls dropped like Kyla. They were still confused.
“Ryz has black magic!” J said suddenly not being able to stand Ryz freezing
people. With confused faces, they looked at J. “And I have white magic,”
she continued. They were shocked. Nobody talked for a while. Ryz and J were
very nervous and eager to hear what the others have to say about their
secret. Liel, surprisingly wasn’t as shocked as the others. Kyla, Izzy and
Lee on the other hand were still trying to process what J said. At last,
Izzy spoke,
“Okay, let’s get this straight, you,” she said pointing at Ryz, “have black
magic?” Ryz nodded. “And you,” transferring to J, “have white magic?” J
also nodded. “Okay,” she said calming down and taking deep breaths. “Is
there anything else I need to know so I won’t have to go through all this
shock in the future?!?!” she burst out suddenly.
“Uhm,” Liel said softly. “I, sort of, control the weather,” she muttered.
It suddenly rained out side. Then, it snowed. After, it went back to sunny.
“Wait, am I dreaming or something?” Lee said. Ryz pinched her in the
arm. “Aww!” she screamed.
“What’d you do that for?!” She said rubbing her arm.
“To prove that you’re awake and not dreaming,” Ryz said.
The following days weren’t the same as before. Ryz, J and Liel now can
share things to the group what they couldn’t say to others. Izzy, Lee and
Kyla were still getting used to the fact that they had powers. Also, when
they trained Liel, It was always raining outside because Liel wanted to cry
with all things they made her do. Every time she made a mistake, thunder
and lightning striked. After a while, they got used to their powers.
