The Evangelion World
section is designed to show information about the Evangelions and the world in
Evangelion. Here is information on the actual Evas:
Evangelion:
Unit-00
Japanese name: Zerogoki
Status: Prototype Evangelion
Pilot: The first child, Rei Ayanami
First appears: Episode 5
The first fully-functional Evangelion created, it is piloted by Rei Ayanami, and
although tests were run with Shinji as pilot these were rather unsuccessful. The
Evangelion went bezerk during its activation and again during testing, and has
exhibited hostility toward both Rei and Gendou. It is unknown whose soul was
used as the core of this Eva, but it is suspected by some that it was Naoko
Akagi's soul, and her original anger at Rei and Gendou would explain the Eva's
outbursts at them. This unit recieved a new appearance after the severe damage
it took from the battle with Ramiel (episode 6); it was finally destroyed when
Rei initiated its self-destruct in order to defeat Armisael and save Shinji
(episode 23).
Evangelion: Unit-01
Japanese name: Shogoki
Status: Test-type Evangelion
Pilot: The third child, Shinji Ikari
First appears: Episode 1
The first Eva to battle an angel; it is piloted by Shinji Ikari, and is usually
the main force in battles against the angels. It has a tendency to do many
unexpected things tho; it activates with no power or entry plug, or just goes
bezerk - and this is attributed to Yui (Shinji's mother) protecting her son, as
her soul is the core of Unit-01. After consuming the 14th angel, it obtained
limitless power (an S^2 engine). Also, as with all the Evangelions the body of
the unit was made partly from lilith, which is why it could be used in the human
complimentation project when the Lance of Longinus was lost. It was the central
part of the third impact.
Evangelion: Unit-02
Japanese name: Nigoki
Status: Production model
Pilot: The second child, Asuka Soryu; also temporarily by the
fifth child, Kaoru Nagisa
First appears: Episode 8
This is the first Eva constructed for real battles, and is piloted by Asuka
Soryuu, the second child. It was designed and manufactured in Japan, but
assembled and activated in Germany, and was later flown back to Japan to assist
with fighting the angels. Used as its core was the soul of Asuka's mother Kyouko
after she comitted suicide, but Asuka only discovered this after the defeat of
the 17 angels. The fifth child, Kaoru Nagisa, also piloted this Evangelion
temporarily while Asuka was in her stage of mental breakdown.
Evangelion: Unit-03
Japanese name: Sangoki
Status: Production model
Pilot: The fourth child, Touji Suzahara
First appears: Episode 17
Not much info is available on this Eva; it only appeared in one episode before
being destroyed. It was flown to Tokyo-2 from America for activation shortly
after the disappearance of Unit-04, and Touji Suzahara was chosen to be its
pilot. It was somehow posessed during the activation, and later was declared an
angel, so the other three Evas were dispatched to stop it. It was soon
discovered to have an incredible abilities to stretch and fuse with other Evas,
and managed to take out Units-00 and -02, before being destroyed by Unit-01 on
the dummy-plug system. Its pilot Touji survived, but was left cripped. The soul
used as the core of this Eva is unknown; however it is assumed that it was from
Touji's mother.
Evangelion: Unit-04
Japanese name: Yongoki
Status: Production model
Pilot: None chosen
First appears: Episode 17
Very little is known about this Eva, except that it was white, and that during
the installation of the experimental S^2 engine into this Eva, both it and the
entire Nevada branch of NERV disappeared. It was never taken into battle, or
shown in the series. No core soul was chosen either, as it had not yet been
designated a pilot.
Evangelion: Units-05 to 13
Japanese name: Ryousanki
Status: Mass-production models
Pilot: Operate via the dummy-plug system
First appears: The movie "Death and Rebirth"
Originally intended for NERV's use, these Evas were turned against NERV in the
movie after SEELE realised that Commander Ikari was no longer obeying their
orders. They are piloted by the dummy-plug system, but using Kaoru's mind
pattern rather than Rei's; they also have a limitless power supply, as they
operate on S^2 (super-solenoid) engines. They have flight capability (wings), as
well as weapons that can be transformed to miniature versions of the Lance of
Longinus. As fighters, they seemed to be rather poor (Asuka took all nine down
in less than four minutes), but their regenerative abilities make up for this
disadvantage. They also turned out to be an integral part of third impact,
helping to form the Tree of Life with Unit-01.
