Tellos #1 (Mike Wieringo, Todd Dezago, Toy Box/Image) - Welcome to the vividly imagined and beautifully rendered world of Tellos.  A world of adventure, a variety of animal-men, dark magic, lazy dragons, thiefs and air ships.  Tellos follows the adventures of Jarek, a boy of unknown power and holder of a mysterious medallion of obvious power.  He is joined by his tiger-man friend Koj.  The reading is fast, action-packed, and humorous.  In this first of ten issues, Jarek and Koj are on the run from Hopper, the lispiest frogmen ever, and followed closely by mysterious shadow warriors.  This book is an awsome read and sets the stage for continued excellence throughout the remaining nine issues. Rating: 9  Try Tellos if you like fast-paced adventures where good and evil is as clear as black and white.

Marvel Mangaverse: New Dawn #1 (Ben Dunn, Ben Dunn, Marvel) - Ben Dunn does Marvel an amazing favor with this book.  Manga titles aren't known for doing too well, but on the rare occasion one does, the supply hardly ever mets the demand.  This was one such occasion.  And Quesada couldn't be happier.

Much like Marvel's Ulimate titles i.e. Spider-Man, X-Men, Team-Up, and Ulimates (read Avengers), New Dawn pools from a well-known wealth of characters and morphs them into something new.  And it's success is much like the Ultimate titles.  So much, in fact, Marvel is rumored to be extending an offer to Dunn to continue the Mangaverse into a series.  Currently, the entire Marvel Mangaverse is one-shot only.
So, what's inside?  Tony Stark's sister (he has a sister?) is now the head of Stark Industries.  And as any good corporate head of Stark, she dons the Iron Man armor (shown above).  Throughout the issue you are introduced to several new takes on many Marvel characters, for instance, Wasp is actually project W.A.S.P., in which a young scientist is developing an new method of single passenger flight (shown to the right).  The issue is, in its self, a tribute to the great work Dunn has already been doing on titles like Gold Diggers.  Marvel characters have gone through an abundance of changes lately, and this is a welcomed addition. Rating: 9 If you like New Dawn, check out the other Marvel Mangaverse titles, particularly Spider-Man and X-Men, as well as the forementioned Gold Diggers.
