Famous Zetas
Zeta Tau Alpha was founded on October 15, 1898 at Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia by a group of nine wonderful women.  A temporary name, "???", was chosen while they sought after a Greek name and symbols.
Throughout this time, the group received assistance from two of the members brothers, Plummer Jones and Giles Mebane Smith, who were members of mens Greek organizations.
After a year of contemplation, the group chose the formal name, Zeta Tau Alpha, the patron goddess, Themis, and the badge.  With the help of Senator Frank C. Moon, ZTA's charter was passed on March 15, 1902.
Zeta Tau Alpha has been chartered on more than 227 colleges and campuses, and has many alumnae chapters throughout the United States. ZTA is one of the three largest sororities nationally.
