Feb. 14, 2002 - Meet the Foggles. The latest craze in eyewear is meant to simulate instrument flying conditions and I flew around with these things on for four months, feeling impossibly stylish all the while. This is my perpetually cheerful instructor Amy D, who should win some kind of award for still being so giggly even after having to tolerate me day after day for months on end. I have great admiration for anyone who has seen the Orange Hat TV show and is still willing to fly with me. |

Feb. 15, 2002 - There go my sistah, Amy Leigh, still known as the " Tot ". This was the first time I'd flown with someone who wasn't being paid to be there. And she didn't try to run! I hardly ever see the Tot anymore and this was like one of our old high school joy rides in the mighty VW Diesel Rabbit. |

Feb. 15, 2002 - Within minutes Amy and I had both completely reverted to our old high school mentality. Here we are, running amok with an airplane while the parents are away... |

Feb. 16, 2002 - Delta Airlines had a two day program where you receive one day of DC-3 ground school, get a tour of their restored DC-3, and then actually fly a DC-3 the next day. Too good to pass up! This is Delta's first DC-3, which originally went into service in 1940. |

Feb. 16, 2002 - The interior is restored to original 1940s condition, complete with old Life magazines. They make you wear gloves and booties when you go inside. |

Feb. 17, 2002 - Our old pal Tony Manzo, a friend of my dad for over 40 years, retired Delta pilot, and all around wild dude. Mr. Manzo flies Delta's DC-3 to airshows around the country and gave us the preflight tour this morning. |

Feb 17, 2002 - Mr. Manzo gives us the old walk-around business. It was about 35 degrees this morning and very gusty. |
