The Actor |
Luis started acting at age ten. His first “big break” came when he performed at Bellas Artes in Puerto Rico with "Vida Vida" under the hands of Ernesto Concepción. He has played different roles in theatre as well as on TV. Luis studied Drama at The University of Puerto Rico and moved to New York at the age of 21. Luis is currently studying the Meisner technique at the Acting Studio with James Price as his acting coach. With this technique Luis discovered a new way of acting. He has also trained at the “Acting on Set” program of Alex Portugal.
Working on Broadway, off -Broadway, as well as in Television and film, Luis has been active enough to continue being a full time learner of his craft. Working with such talent as Priscilla López, Esaí Morales, Jaime Camil, Justina Machado, Patrick Depsey, Amy Adams, Diego Luna, Russell Crow, Julie Taymor and others, Luis has been able to observe and learn even more in order to help fill his love and passion for the art. "The learning never stops and that's all I want. Acting is magical and mysterious; it thrills me. So, why not spend my life in it?" – L.Salgado Recently Luis went back to Puerto Rico as a special guest star to play the role of Bobby in "A Chorus Line". This production for him is proof that when you want something so passionately, if you stay open and fight for it, you can achieve it. The press received him with comments like: “The return to the island of the actor/dancer Luis Salgado was made outstanding by his portrayal in the role of `Bobby’, in which he demonstrated his golden talent and his good experience in the New York theater." Luis is now being honored by Guillermo Ortiz Acevedo as part of the expo "Hijos distinguidos" with people like Bernie Williams and Yadier Molina in which he has been selected to serve as an example of growth to the children and students of Puerto Rico. Luis was a principal actor in the PBS series “Traps”. He was the Dance Double of Diego Luna in "Dirty Dancing 2 Havana nights"; Created the role of Frankie Suarez in the recently postponed Broadway show "The Mambo Kings" and you can catch him in films like "American Gangster" , "Enchanted","Across the universe" and as Alejandron in the film "Step Up 2". |
