Cape Town, South Africa
October 2002
I traveled to Cape Town on business.  The city definitely tops my list as one of the most captivating places I've visited.  It gets a bad rap for the crime and poverty, but there are some truly beautiful parts of the city, especially on the V&A Waterfront, and the South African people are very gracious, friendly hosts.  It was springtime when I visited, so the weather was gorgeous, about 75 degrees Fahrenheit everyday, and sunny skies (partly just lucky).  Although a limiting location for vacation for most Americans just due to the travel time (approx. 20 hrs by plane) and subsequent costs, it is becoming a hot spot for European vacationers, and the spa crowd.  All I can say is go, go, go if you can, and fall in love with this gem of a city.
The Cape Town harbour, with Table Mountain in the background.  It was beautiful and sunny just about every day.
These are from the surrounding environs of Cape Town.  It was whale watching season, but you had to be quick to catch a fin on film!
The Clock Tower in the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.  The gate at the front swings across the water for pedestrians, but out of the way so boats can pass through.
