SIR ROBERT BALL
1840-1913

Born: 1st July 1840 in Dublin, one of seven children, brothers Valentine and Charles;   sisters Kate, Mary, Amelia and Annie.  Parents were Robert Ball and Amelia Gresley.They lived at 3 Granby Row, Dublin.

Education: English governess at home, followed by a period at Dr. Burke's school in        North Great George St. At age 11 he went to boarding school in England. It was a school in Turvin, near Chester, run by the Rev. Dr. John Brindley. He left in March 1857 and returned to Dublin (his father had died)

He entered Trinity College in October 1857 and read Mathematics and Botany.
