Kijana Project Accomplishments |
Collected over 1,300 items of clothing, toys, and school supplies. Shipped over 1,200 items of clothing, toys, school supplies to Africa. Collected 70 lbs of children’s books To date has collected over 100 art supplies and half has been donated to an orphanage in Kenya Made presentations in Mexico, Thailand, South Africa, the United Sates and Zimbabwe on the project, HIV/AIDS counseling, and support of orphans and vulnrnable children Obtained a solar over worth USA $ 10,500.00 for Mother of Peace Orphange in Zimbabwe Got youth around the world to e-mail cards and messages to a 10-year old boy in who was in a hospital in the United States ill from AIDS Got youth from around the world to e-mail and s-mail cards and messages to a 16 year old girl who was in the hospital in the United States ill from AIDS Obtained 15 HIV/AIDS education videos, half of which were sent to Uganda Sent over a thousand dollars worth of information on HIV/AIDS and on the treatment youth and adults with HIV/AIDS to doctors and caregivers in Uganda and Zimbabwe. Identified organizations and families to assist and linked together youth and organizations throughout the world Purchased a printer-scanner-copier Designed and produced over 300 flyers and brochures Wrote 4 grant proposals for organizations in Africa that assists orphans and seven youth grant proposals for ourselves of which five have been funded Developed a comprehensive project website on Yahoo geocities and built a website of project documents and general information at Taking It Global Educated millions of youth about HIV/AIDS Published articles about the project in journals, newspapers, and magazines. Built two temporary web pages for organizations that help AIDS orphans Presented awards to 22 people for their service to Kijana Wrote a constitution and other project documents Many speaking engagements and media appearances. For example, Voice of America, CNN Student News, Chronicle of Philanthropy, Teen People magazine, Elle Girl magazine, Essence magazine, Crisis magazine, Africa News Online Advised other youth about staring their own projects |
