Director of Public Works Ken Foulds is pleased with the enthusiasm shown for the re-establishing a soils and materials lab on island.
Talks on setting up the lab were held on this week with local contractors.
Mister Foulds says the re- introduction of the materials lab will make for more accurate and scientific methods of preparing concrete and asphalt using local materials.
This he hopes would lead to improved safety and at the same time satisfy the building code.

Former Chief Minister David Brandt has taken current Chief Minister John Osborne to task for giving the impression that Montserrat is satisfied with the assistance Britain has given to the island so far.
In a BBC interview last week Mr. Osborne said he is not complaining about Britain’s aid to the island at this time.
This after BVI Chief Minister Ralph O’Neal said the British Government is falling short of its commitment to the Overseas Territories especially with regard to aid to Montserrat.
Montserrat has been struggling to recover from an active volcano.
Mr. Brandt says Mr. Osborne’s statement sends the wrong message.

The Commanding Officer of HMS Coventry Captain Philip Jones is pleased was able to assist with several community projects during its visit here.
During their two-day stay crew members dismantled the school bus below the Montserrat Secondary School, worked on an irrigation project, did some landscaping, and conducted armory and weapons inspection, and an oils pill exercise.
Speaking at a press briefing on board the ship Commander Jones said he was impressed with what was achieved.
He was also delighted with the crew’s interaction with residents.

The St Johns Hospital is making every effort to improve and upgrade the skills of Orderlies and Drivers at the hospital.
That’s according to Secondary Care Manager Beverly Mendes.
Mrs. Mendes made the comment after the successful staging of the emergency health care workshop, the first in a series of programmes, sponsored by the Ministry of Health and PAHO.
She says the aim is to help workers reach the level of true Emergency Medical Technicians.

Montserrat Aviation Services has announced changes to the ferry schedule for Tuesday’s.
Starting on the 25th of September and continuing every Tuesday for the next eight weeks the ferry will depart Antigua at 9.00 am and arrive in Montserrat at 10.00 am.
It will then depart Montserrat at 10.30 and arrive in Antigua at 11.30.
The changes are made to help develop day tours by tourists.
