| The Zeta Kappa Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was chartered on the campus of South Carolina State University on November 21, 1974 by eleven innovative young ladies. Community service, leadership training and education of youth were the hallmark of the sorority's program. Activities were encouraged to further in everyway possible the dignity and work of the individual members. Seven of the eleven charter members were Sandra Price, Velma Felder, Yvonna Jenkins, Linda Swinton, Angela Hollis, Linda Edwards and Carolyn Holloway. The Zeta Kappa Chapter became inactive in 1991 due to graduating members. The members of the Theta Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. (Claflin College) worked diligently to recruit new members for the reactivation of the chapter at South Carolina State University. On November 13, 1997 seven young ladies were brought together in sisterhood and joined Zeta Kappa. Each soror brought something unique to the chapter. With dedication and determination these young ladies officially reactivated the chapter during the fall semester of 1998. Since Feburary 27, 1999, Zeta Kappa has increased in its ranks with new chapter members. |
