.

Animal Info:

The Bontebok was once considered to be the rarest antelope in the world. Due to excess hunting and competition from domestic livestock the Bontebok was reduced to just 17 wild individuals. In the wild Bontebok are only found in protected reserves in South Africa. Thanks to captive breeding and management of these reserves the Bontebok population has increased to over 2,000 animals.

Bontebok are rich purplish brown with a broad white blaze on its long muzzle. Both male and females have well developed lyre shaped, ringed horns. Males use their horns to spar for territories.

Herds are lead by a dominant male with several females and their young. Females give birth to a single offspring at traditional calving grounds. Calves are born a light yellowish brown with dark faces, and have none of the markings of adults. Females do not isolate their young unlike other similar antelopes. Newborns are able to walk within five minutes of birth allowing them to follow their mothers.

The Download:

This is my first attempt to make a new animal. I made this animal for ZT1 and have always been fascinated by it.

This animal is made from the Thomsons Gazelle. It has been recolored. Both the adult male and the female are exactly the same. They have been resized to make them larger. To make it more accurate the young are a different color than the adults.
