ZOOMKAT'S SERVO THERMOSTAT CONTROL

Go here to see how to make your own servo control setup (also some info there for making a web controlled pan and tilt webcam and such).

Simple servo based thermostat control that might be of interest for home automation or other computer thermostat control needs. Using a servo controller, the servo can be controlled via the computer, or controlled via the web using a cgi setup in a web server. I hot glued a small wood block to the end of the thermostat to support the servo, then hot glued the servo on top of the wood block (hot glue can usually be easily removed later if needed). A small straightned out paper clip is used for the control linkage. It was carefully bent to slip on to the thermostat arm and is held in place by a piece of thread so it still has a little flex, but no slop for good repeatable accuracy. The other end of the paper clip is bent ~90 deg. and slipped through the hole in the servo horn. It is then bent a little so it stays in the hole and doesn't slip out. The servo rotation in this setup is ~90 deg., so you could have up to ~120 descrete positions to choose from. If desired, the servo thermostat could be placed in parallel with the normal thermostat using a relay controller and some small SPDT relays. This way a mouse click could place the servo thermostat in service for remote thermostat control. As usual YMMV!!!
