LIBRARY SERVICE OFFERS GREATER ACCESS TO DATA
Through FirstSearch, students can access 612 up-to-date periodicals, the World Almanac, and The New York Times.
Students can now access and locate research databases at the touch of a button.
FirstSearch, an electronics information system, combines databases used statewide with databases used at OU. Bizzel Memorial Library started using the system last week.
Through FirstSearch, students can access 612 up-to-date periodicals, The World Almanac and FirstSearch provides online access to many full-text and bibliographic databases.
FirstSearch is a product of the Oneline Computer Library Center, a supplier of electronic information.
Wilbur A. Stolt, director of public services for University Libraries, said he hopes all students will use the service.
He said the service is fairly straightforward in its search functions. If a student has questions, he should contact the OU reference desk, 325-4231.
Databases available through the new system include:
WorldCat, which lists books in libraries all over the world.
BiographyInd, a guide to biographies;
FactSearch, which lists facts and statistics, and
Books in Print.
