Follow the steps below to eliminate those ugly daytime running lights |
WARNING! |
If you have problems following directions or do not feel comfortable working with common household tools, then by all means do not attempt these mods. Be sure to read and understand each step before attempting them. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to drop me an email. Ask before you screw something up! |
1. Locate the fuse block under the hood on the drivers side of the engine compartment. |
Here we go! |
2. Remove the cover by unscrewing this knob. Note: This knob does not come out of the cover. |
3. Once the knob is loose, the cover will pull off. |
4. Underneath the cover is a diagram of the fuse block. Locate the position of the relay labeled 'DRL'. |
5. Locate the relay on the fuse block and remove it. |
6. Ok, here is the important part. On the bottom of the relay, you will see 5 prongs with the numbers 30, 85, 86, 87, and 87a. Take your pliers and bend the prong labeled 86 to match the picture below. This will prevent that prong from engaging the fuse block, deactivating the daytime running lights. |
7. Replace the relay. Line up the prongs with the holes in the fuse block. It will only go back in one way. |
8. Replace the cover and tighten the knob. You're done! |

Owners of some 98-99 models and all 2000-2001 ZR2s will be able to disable their DRLs by using the method provided in this LINK. |
ATTENTION ALL ZR2 OWNERS |
The easiest way to tell which method to use is to see which set of lights operate with the DRL function. If they use the low beams, then use the method in the link above to eliminate the DRLs. If they use the high beams, then you can use the method below to eliminate them. DOUBLE CHECK TO ENSURE WHICH SYSTEM YOUR TRUCK USES! For some model years, GM used an additional relay located under the dashboard to control the DRL function. |
