Nothing at all happened of interest yesterday, so I wrote nothing about it. I have become vaguely interested in card tricks of late because all the Japanese react like six-year-olds to the "got your nose" trick when somebody does anything remotely tricky with cards. As a result, I wasted a bunch of time last night looking for card tricks online and ended up with a bunch that were not interesting or totally sucked, but it was still worth it because I learned the greatest trick to pull on drunk people. I can't wait for the first applicable moment. Consider it... excitment! In a barrel!
I am well and truly sick and this point, and seem like I'm headed pretty solidly down Massive Discomfort avenue for the next few days. I can't wait!
This afternoon I had an appointment to hang out with friends at two o'clock, so I reasonably enough did not set my alarm; and yet, although I was not up much later than usual, I managed to be still dead asleep when Ayed knocked on my door at 1:45 telling me it was time to go. This strikes me as somewhat odd. Recently my body has been acting out the Israel/Palestinian conflict, with it as the aggrieved Palestinian side, and me as the much hated invader Israel. I have always thought that there was no reason for me to go out of my way to treat my body well, by exercising or eating healthily or what have you, but now I am convinced that we two are at war, and am thus all the more glad that I never wasted my time lavishing comforts upon it when it was certain to turn traitor on me anyway. It seems to me that if I were good at anything physical, I would be giving in to my body's demands and treating the ungrateful beast better than it deserves.
Andrew bought an apple when we were on the trip that was about two-thirds the size of the moon. It was the most massive apple I've ever seen, and that includes the Massive Applestorm back in '43. What a scene of chaos that was, too, all the apple pieces splattered over the sidewalk, small children and weak crying feebly underneath mounds of fresh, delicious applesauce. I still wake in horror at the memory.
