I bought the bottle to your left because I was incredibly confused about what this 'muscat' could be. The OED was, as usual, forthcoming: "More fully muscat wine. Wine made from muscat or similar grapes; esp. sweet white wine that is sometimes fortified. Cf. muscadel, muscatel." Fanta's making muscatel? If they just start putting out Dr. Nut, my life will be complete. This is non-alcoholic, of course, but then I don't have a 300-pound beast of a son to make me require the alcoholic kind. I'm too tired to try it tonight, so I'll tell you how it is later.
The American Posse just bought cell phones, which makes me happy. I won't be able to get mine until tomorrow, but that's not too bad. Shopping for them was a hilarious experience that I wish I could have recorded. We three Americans were desperately pooling our Japanese comprehension resources in an attempt to figure out what the salesman was saying, and he was struggling with a pidgin Japanese peppered with the very few English words he knew. Unfortunately for him, words like 'contract', 'automatic withdrawal' and 'monthly fee' are a little difficult to explain with gestures. Fortunately customer service here stops just short of actual foot-bathing, so everything worked out just fine after a fair amount of patience and effort on his part. Cell phone minutes here are really expensive, the cheapest possible rate being about 7\/minute, so people mostly just use them for text messaging. They're pretty expensive for glorified pagers, but I guess they're worth it - after all, they're super sexy and take photos and video. We got a pretty good deal, too, so the phone was free and the plan is only about $28/month.
