10.03.03 The muscat was like pretty much nothing else I've ever had... and that's about the best I can say about it. I will certainly drink the liter and a half of it that I bought and will probably keep buying it and consuming it, but I can't honestly tell whether or not I enjoy it. It's one of those things. In more important news, I got my first cell phone! I feel like such a techno geek now - at any given moment I have in my pockets a digital camera, an electronic dictionary and a cellular phone. What more do I need? I could take over Poland with this much technology. My cell phone can send and recieve e-mail just like a PC, so my new cell address is sure to wow and woo: ztorretta@ezweb.ne.jp Note that it has also been added to my contact information for easy access. Now I can read what you write me where ever I choose. Add to my list of successful new acquisitions the following: a towel and a new pillow that doesn't suck miserably. The pillow I've been using was one they gave me, this Japanese-style buckwheat-shell-filled thing. It is a total disaster and has made sleeping almost impossible (well, relatively speaking. Mostly that means that I woke up less-than-usually refreshed). I'm about to burst at the prospect of having a regular night's sleep at last. Having had first-hand experience with them, I now think it's hilarious that buckwheat pillows made a minor splash in America about three years back; I guess that suckers who buy from TV ads deserve to pay three easy payments of $19.95 for a pillow that's like sleeping on lumpy granite. The photo to your right was taken with my phone's digital camera. I feel like a tiny digi-god. I had that Hiroshima class today for which the professor didn't show up last week. It was a masterpiece of unintentional hilarity - for about the first five minutes he appeared to be serious about studying history, then quickly lost interest and started asking us vague and random questions for the next hour. The long and short of it is that we're not going to learn any actual textbook history, but will instead be field-tripping to the MAXX. He is intensely interested in us experiencing Japanese culture first-hand, even encouraging us to get jobs despite our student visa prohibition on work. After knowing the four of us for roughly an hour, he invited all of us to spend next weekend at a Buddhist temple with him. Um... okay, I guess. So I'm going to go hang out a temple for a weekend, sleeping there for one night and then at a ski resort that this guy owns for the other - all totally free. Maybe this class won't be so bad after all! I'm pretty much in shock that this is happening at all, as it seemed so off-handed and random, but I'm always up for a free weekend trip to parts unknown. He quickly made sure that at least one of us had an international driver's license, as he apparently plans on getting totally blotto at least one if not both of the evenings. He is some kind of honcho in the police department, something to do with licensing, so if he drives with any amount of alcohol at all in his system he'll be in huge trouble. That's good, I guess. This is all exceedingly strange. Incidentally, I may be going camping at Miyajima this weekend, so if I don't post on Saturday, that's why. |

The pinwheel and I had some lovely times, but when the phone caught us together, it was all over. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
