Hindsight

How many streets?
How many people?
How many options
Along the way?

You walk the streets.
You see the people.
You tear your hopes
From the affray.

How many times have you walked down the same way?
How many people have you passed today?
How many times can you say you regret?
How many more can you never say you’d change?

But that’s the story of looking back.
That’s the glory of another chance.
That’s the time you wish you’d had
And the time you wish you’d not.

You sit alone.
You sit with people.
You sit in silence
No one will speak.

Where are the people?
Where is the stillness?
Where is the noise
Of the affray?

What would you have done,
What would you do
If you had your time again?
I’d write a better song,
You’d sing along.
