Information from the Osnabrucker Staatsarchiv regarding the tax registers from the House Lage in Rieste
In the Lehnbucher der Bischofe von Osnabruck, we found no mentioning of our family. In this we know that the farm and his inhabiters were not considered to be people from Osnabruck but Tecklenburger citizen.
In the Zinsregister from the House Laghe in the year 1403 we find under Rieste, Itl dat gud dar Kerstien tor Oves opp sittet ene war.

These tax registers are importend as they say much about the social status of this farm and his inhabiters when compared to other farms in the Barony and the  surrounding area like for example in Ankum and Gross Mimmelage. In their own location at the Barony in Rieste, they were regarding the combination of areal size (although they were on the 5th place in size of land), livestock and tax duties almost the equal to the Meyerhof in Rieste and found on the 2sd place. Also compared to the Meyerhof Brickwede and Von den Bosse nearby Ankum we see a farm that is the Equal to these Estate´s. Most importend however is the 5 thaler that Castenne tho Overst in 1589 has to pay as Viehschatz, what is the normal tax what a Meyer or Schulze has to pay and the Gentry from their Estate´s. While the normal middle class farmer had to pay between a 2 and 3 Thaler on Vieschatz. In this case the farm and his inhabiters are considered to belong to the class of Meyer or Schulze.
