| On 25 july 1245 Knight Hugo von Horne with allowence of wife and childeren gave up their right on Knight-fee; `Castle Lage`, two farms in Belhem, a Mill in Rieste, with ministerialen (lower officials) and the right to the River `Stickteich`, with gardens and all attached, with all un- and cultivated acres, waters, fishingrights, forest, woodlands and all other rights comming from it . By giving up his right, the owner of the Dominion; Count Otto von Tecklenburg gifted it to the Hospital in Jeruzalem (The Order of Malta). A century later in this Dominion of the Knights of Malta, farmstead `Owest` with a size of 81 acres has been build on top of a Hill. Nearby a swamp and newly build channel by our ancestor who Colonized this lands and received the Estate as a fief with all rights and duty´s comming from it. Honorable rights like; the right to carry the name of the Estate, the right to act as an alderman every 6 years in the common territory, the right and duty of defening the Farmstead, the right of fishing and hunting for ducks and the inherited right of farming.
