| In present day much of our ancestral estate did change to adjuste itself to modern times, what still did remain are the old signs of yeomanry. At the top of the gate you find symbols of roses, lily´s and a tree of life. On the side of the door you find the 18th century mark of the Estate, forming the letters MDWB. This mark was used to mark Cattle with. As the letters MD are later adjustments, the WB represents the orginal mark and can be translated from the Gothic alphabet as Wz (Uz, Uws, Uus, Ws) with the meaning of `Out` or `Outside`. In this the mark reflects our familyname. Some historians believe that the marks are connected to the ancient Runic Alphabeth, old as the 6th century. In this case our mark would have historically grown out of the `YEW` or `EHWAZ` RUNE (also pronunciated AYE WAZ) with the meaning of Horse. Symbolically standing for the mystic partnership between the horse and his rider, what reflects in the old Anglo Saxon poem regarding to this Rune. `MY LOYAL PARTNER, CARRY ME THROUGH BATTLE, TO VICTORY, THROUGH DEATH, TO THE LAND BEYOND`. As the horse was also the one that carries his rider´s soul to the world beyond. |
