the most reliable car ever built

240D's routinely turn over the odometer 3 or four times. A 200D from 1968 went for 900,00 miles before the engine was replaced, then continued for over a million miles. Mercedes found out about it and bought it back from the guy for promotion.

My 240D had about 230,000 miles on it. It's an '81, from the peak of the gas crunch era. I drove it out here from New York. These cars have very sluggish pickup, so they're kind of like the underdogs of the Mercedes world. Even though I've moved on to another Mercedes now, I still miss driving the 240D. Despite it's mileage, you still felt like you're driving a block of granite down the road.
