Grobius's Other Web Hosts

January 2002: The old free web-hosting sites, with their banner ads, are for the most part now defunct, like the World Trade Center -- just in the last year. Pity. A few have survived under the aegis of the Trellis umbrella, where to get rid of a zillion pop-up-and-under ads you have to pay them about $10 a month per site.

Here is what's left of the Grobius Shortling Freeservices Network (GSFN)

Under the Aegis of various FreeHomePages

Most of the file managers and templates on these servers are slow and tricky (or just stupid), and the inserted banner ads, pop-ups and other things very irritating. Many have really ugly home pages and interfaces that are hard to navigate. What do you expect for free? Old-timers like Tripod/Angelfire and Yahoo/Geocities now have the best file managers for maintaining your site (at least, I think so, because I'm used to them). If all else fails, you can use AOL's FTP to upload files to other sites -- if you have AOL -- but their program is really clunky.

Free Web Sites (mostly small) [I did these just to get more web exposure.]
