Best & Wallace win in West: Jones leads East
The same seven teams with playoff hopes are still in it. We have a new leader
in the East and none of the four teams in the West has clinched one of the
three available playoff spots.
ETie is good news/bad newsF
Jones-Klingman's tie with Berger-Browell in the "hyphen bowl" coupled with Mike
Talbot's loss to Tim Stroupe means that Jones now has the same record as Talbot.
But there is one major difference. Last week Jones beat Talbot, so he leads.
That's the good news. The bad news is that only the division winner will emerge,
from the East. The wild card spot is now the sole property of the West division.
Both BB and JK scored in the same fashion: one from the QB, one from a player and
a single field goal from a kicker. Stroupe used "Barry Power" to defeat Talbot 31-27.
Sanders and Foster combined for 20 points.
EGame of the week:F
The first time they were left on the "splinter squad", Steve Czupryna started the
LA Rams QBs the following week and they scored 4 touchdowns. Last week, the Rams
Qbs were on the splinter squad and this week Czupryna started them again. The
result: a heartbreaking 37-36 loss to Bob Wallace and three Cowboys on the
"splinter squad".
Czupryna's loss brings Tom Best with one game of the lead. Best defeated Calvin
Jackson 38-15. The bulk of Best's scoring came late with 13 each from Ricky Watters
and the Kansas City defense. Watters' points were particularly key because they
held down the scoring of Steve Young, Jackson's league leading QB.
It was hard getting scores from the already decided Central division, but
based on usual lineups and logic I show Outlaw upsetting Ricker 33-14 and Peil
downing Bratcher 31-14.
ELooking aheadF
Jones-Klingman hopes to "Kling" to their lead against Stroupe while Talbot
hopes to rebound against Berger-Browell. Whatever the result, week 14 decides the
division winner. Jackson has is the only West team no longer in the hunt for a
division crown. He must defeat Wallace to hang in there for a wild card.
Czupryna may have trouble keeping his turkey down. He has three potential starters
goingon Thanksgiving and he must end a two game losing streak that has shaken his
playoff chances. He plays Best, winner of two straight, who can win the division
with two more wins.
