1993 Week 14 Results
Week 15 * This Week in the BRFL * Dec 10, 1993
THE DOGS HAVE THEIR DAY
They were one of the worst teams in league history. They lost nine straight
games. They finished last in the league. They scored no higher than 32 points
in a single game. "Fleeced" by Jackson in a one sided trade, they looked like
hopeless fodder to MONTGOMERY who beat them 54-5 in the regular season. The
league will not forget JONES/KLINGMAN's 56-22 drubbing of Montgomery. Without
question, the most stunning upset in league history. Ron Moore, once dropped
by J/K and credited with a single bonus point since being picked back up, scored 25.
WALLACE, normally one of the most visible and outgoing members of the league,
uncharacteristically laid low and shrugged off the week to week losses. He
limited his roster tinkering and explained his behavior by saying "I'm waiting
for week 14." Week 14 came and he began to make changes. Unsatisfied with a
defense that led the league, he went out and picked up another: Chicago scored
20 points in Wallace's 46-17 whipping of GATES.
It was thought it might come down to this: BEST led RICKER 20-18, the margin
provided by the bonus points of Reggie Brooks and his 78 yard run. Best had
Jerry Rice and Ricker had Ricky Watters. The 49er's were high flying and hot
and playing the weakest team in the league at home on Sunday night. Surprisingly
the 49'ers went flat, and Ricker, who had not changed his roster since September
22, Received 3 TDs from Watters and won 36-20.
Now a test of a rule never before invoked in league history: The playoff tie
breaker rule. PEIL led BERGER/BROWELL by 11 going into Monday night. Eddie Murray,
B/Bs kicker scored exactly 11. The result was a 43-43 tie. The rule states that in the
playoff, the team with the better record advances. Peil at 6-6-2 will move on.
B/B at 5-8-1 will become another league trivia answer. You had to wonder what
Peil's mental state was when Murray had 10 by the half. How many times had he
lost games when scoring in the 40's?
These teams have played 5 times and the total accumlation of all the winning scores
may be less than 100. It was another typical BRATCHER/STROUPE low scoring affair.
Stroupe wins this yawner, 20-11. The Cleveland QBs were on the pine.
Only one dog laid down. OUTLAW fell to CZUPRYNA 23-10. It was only 11-10 when
San Diego had the ball on the goal line. CZ's Natrone Means and Outlaws QBs
each took one crack. On third down it was Means getting the 6. Interestingly,
Marion Butts was not in the game. Yet, he had a bigger inpact on the playoff
outcomes than Ron Moore. Had BUTTS NOT SCORED on the previous Monday night,
here is the outcome of this weeks games: GATES 17 OUTLAW 12, RICKER 36 CZ 23,
B/B 43 BEST 20 and WALLACE 46 PEIL 43.
For week 15, Talbot and Jackson returns and the teams are put in brackets.

WEEK 15 PREVIEW
1. JACKSON 9-3-1 vs 14. JONES/KLINGMAN 4-10
Previous Result: JACKSON 35 J/K 20 (week 11)
Jackson is licking his chops. San Francisco picked his bye week to go flat. Now
they are headed to Atlanta where a shootout could be possible. J/K's QBs face off
against each other. Both games are Saturday, so we may know early how this one
will go. Incidentally Jackson has not won a playoff game in 6 years. Will Ron
Moore do it again, or will Jackson do it to himself.
7. PEIL 7-6-1 vs 8. STROUPE 7-6-1
Previous Result: PEIL 32 STROUPE 32 (week 3)
It is destiny that these two meet. Since their tie, they have been virtually
deadlocked in the standings. Peil has broken away of late, scoring more points,
and that will give him the edge should they tie AGAIN. Peil looks for a big day
in the San Francisco/Atlanta game. Stroupe hopes his back tandem is finally
healthy, and new starting QB Chicago faces the Bucs.
5. CZUPRYNA 9-5 vs 11. RICKER 6-8
Previous Result: CZ 46 Ricker 31 (week 10)
A rematch of last year's Super Bowl. Ricker hampered by loss of last week's hero,
Ricky Watters, but New Orleans has the Rams at home. CZ faces a tough Monday night
test for Miami vs Pittsburgh. In subduing Ricker in week 10, CZ's almost has his
entire team score. If they can spread it out again, he'll move on.
2. TALBOT 9-4 vs 13. WALLACE 5-9
Previous Result: Wallace 29 Talbot 22 (week 4)
A rematch of the imfamous "Faud Reviez" game. Talbot needs a big game from Houston
playing at home against division rival Cleveland. He also needs one or more of his
players to step up. Maybe Brent Jones, who has not scored since week 7 and is due.
Wallace finds his Qbs in Minnesota. Don't be surprised if he pulls a switch, but
Dallas tends to pass more against the stronger defenses.
