J/K "Skeleton Crew" Surprises Montgomery
1
Last week a casting call went out for the following positions: QB, RB, WR, K Week 4 results
and D/ST. JONES/KLINGMAN was desperate to fill a roster devastated by the Berger-Browell 45 Jackson 21
NFC East bye week. MONTGOMERY was frothing at the mouth waiting to lay waste Outlaw 40 Czupryna 35
to his conquerers in last years playoffs. Could a respectable team be fielded? Jones-Klingman 42 Montgomery 33
Among the job applicants were Cleveland QBs, and special reserved Seattle D/St Ricker 59 Wallace 32
and K Chip Lohmiller. They netted 30 and sore-shouldered Edgar Bennett added 6 Talbot 49 Gates 23
more. The result was a 36-33 win. With the big bye week behind them, J/K should Deitrich 34 Best 29
have a full team the rest of the year. Stroupe 20 Peil 14
League rookie DEITRICH is finding out that luck is what wins games. Late Sunday Week 5 (Oct 2-3)
he was up 7 over BEST when Johnny Johnson broke loose from his own 3 and seemed Berger-Browell vs Outlaw
to be on his way to a TD which would win the game for BEST. However Johnson was Czupryna vs Jackson
tackled at the 7, and later failed to cross the goal line on a second run. Jones-Klingman vs Gates
Disaster had been averted, but the 90 yard scamper had given BEST two bonus Ricker vs Montgomery
points and the loss was now one Jim Kelly TD toss against a weak Denver D away. Talbot vs Wallace
However, five times Kelly was in the "red zone" and with no passing TDs. DEITRICH Best vs Stroupe
held on 34-29. Another game was on the line Monday, with CZ down 5 and his Peil vs Deitrich
QB John Elway firing into the into the end zone late in the game. No TD and
OUTLAW prevailed. Another sad Monday for CZ and another splinter squad captain. NEW YORK JETS AT CLEVELAND 1:00
This time Eric Metcalf. CZ figured he'd be cooling his heels in a jail cell on DALLAS AT WASHINGTON 1:00
a weapons charge rather than kicking up his heels in the end zone with 2 TDs. DETROIT AT TAMPA BAY 1:00
GREEN BAY AT NEW ENGLAND 1:00
With BEST vanquished, BERGER/BROWELL remains the lone unbeaten team. JACKSON SEATTLE AT INDIANAPOLIS 1:00
was humiliated 45-21. It was one of those days: The first Atlanta TD toss MINNESOTA AT ARIZONA 4:00
went to B/B Terrence Mathis and Deion Sanders ran back an interception for B/B NEW YORK GIANTS AT NEW ORLEANS 4:00
49'er D/ST. Jackson had cut Sanders when the 49'ers announced that he was PHILADELPHIA AT SAN FRANCISCO 4:00
not expected to play offense. ATLANTA AT LOS ANGELES RAMS 4:00
BUFFALO AT CHICAGO 4:00
The number 13 was lucky three times for RICKER in his 59-32 crushing of WALLACE. MIAMI AT CINCINNATI 8:00
Barry Sanders, Thurman Thomas and Lewis Tillman scored 13 points each. The trio HOUSTON AT PITTSBURGH MON 9:00
had previously on scored 17 points TOTAL in 3 games. Only Sharpe, Favre and Elam BYEs: La Raid, San Diego, Kansas City, Denver
scored for WALLACE. Who is the rest of his team? Look in the dictionary under
"deadwood". STROUPE and PEIL call 911. Stroupe won 20-14 in a game marred by
devestating injuries to Terry Kirby (STROUPE, Knee) and Mike Pritchard (PEIL,
lacerated kidney). The only 2-2 team in the league is TALBOT. Dan Marino
continues to accumulate more points than the rest of the team combined. He had
20 in the 49-23 whipping of GATES.
