CINEMA SERENADE 2

After the magnificent results obtained in Schindler's List (1993), the violinist Itzhak Perlman and the composer John Williams decided to collaborate again in a work that picked up famous movie themes, where Williams would take charge of adapting them for violin, and Perlman would performed. Everything gave it Cinema Serenade whose result was really excellent, for what has not taken a lot in arriving a second delivery. Contrary to the first volume whose selection included themes for the most part very recent, this second is centered more in classic composers' compositions; the content is excellent again, and although it is certain that it doesn't contribute with anything new (all the themes are already published, and some of them plenty of times), the performance at the violin makes them somehow different, but without being themshelves. The orchestra, in this occasion, is the Boston Pops, of countless collaborations with the own Williams. I would highlight the work as arranger of Angela Morley that if already in the first volume had demonstrated her good manners, in this second volume has made marvels with themes as Cathy's Theme from Wuthering Heights (1939), or Laura (1944). It is a very advisable CD that will please the fans a lot and, mainly, will be able to hook young people that bought the first volume and that ignores the music and the classic composers' quality. Somebody said that second parts were never good; obviously it didn't thought that talents like those of Williams and Perlman could unite to perform music of Steiner, Rozsa, Korngold, Young or Newman.
