Jerry Goldsmith:
PLANET OF THE APES - ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE APES

One of Goldsmith's filmography capital works, and also one of the most influential and unveiling scores of the sixties, Planet of the Apes (1968) marked a milestone in the history of the fantastic cinema the same as in film music. Previously available in two incomplete editions (the original one issued by Project X in 1968, years later reissued in CD, and the expanded one by Intrada in 1992), finally it can be enjoyed lock, stock and barrel thanks to the efforts of Varése Sarabande; including four thoroughly unpublished cues (among them the very requested and excellent Crash Landing, and the very famous ending The Revelation: Part II), and another three expanded in its content, few words can be said on this work that they may not have been said already. The recomendability of its acquisition is absolute, so much if has some of the previously mentioned issues (with a considerably inferior sound than this one) as if it is the first time that is acceded to such a marvelous score. Furthermore, as an addition, it is included a stupendous and also unpublished suite of the very different music that Goldsmith composed for the third delivery of the series, Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971), after relinquishing the baton to Leonard Rosenman in the second part, Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970).
