Elmer Bernstein: WILD WILD WEST

There are not necessary more than some brief moments of listening the initial theme, Main Title, to recognize the veteran and incombustible Elmer Bernstein as the author of this score, maybe the more celebrated composer of westerns of Film History. Relegated for years to a position of prestige, although not high-priority, Bernstein continues unmoved giving work after work of similar level and solvency, although it is certain that he doesn't always shows new compositive formulas but a permanent revision of his style with drops of modernity, in this case certain hip-hop touch. The American composer feels comfortable with this score, what is noticed in the final result, even more discovering his two children as integral part: Emilie is, again, an skilled orchestrator (together with Patrick Russ) and producer, while Peter participates as interesting and skilled composer of two of the ten cues of the disk (Trains, Tanks and Frayed Ropes and Goodbye Loveless). Already close to eighty years of age, Bernstein seems to enjoy a second youth; his last collaboration with Martin Scorsese, Bringing Out the Dead, is at the turn of the corner. M.A.F.
