Meet Barry Shafer

======================================

Some information about me:

I am happily married and have two wonderful children (as well as two pet ferrets). We live in Cary, North Carolina.

I graduated from Fair Lawn (NJ) High School in 1978. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from Rutgers University and my Master's Degree in Computer Science from Syracuse University. I have been working for IBM since June, 1982.

My hobbies include my family, volunteering for the Triangle Area Chapter of the American Red Cross (Disaster Services, Health and Safety, Internet Services), and genealogy. I am also a volunteer for the 1999 Special Olympics World Summer Games, which will be held in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill-Cary area of North Carolina this summer. I will be the Gymnastics Venue Safety Manager for the course of the games.

As a volunteer, I also created and maintain the web sites for the Triangle Area Chapter of the American Red Cross and Operation Toy Box.

My favorite television programs are ER, The X-Files and Nash Bridges.

My favorite recording artists are The Band, Electric Light Orchestra, Supertramp, Alan Parsons Project and Toad the Wet Sprocket.

My favorite Comics are Meg, Foxtrot and Doonsbury.

As far as sports are concerned, the only team that I follow is the New York Yankees. However, now that we have a local NHL hockey team, I am picking up an interest in the Carolina Hurricanes.
