From Frederick Jackson "Jack" Buckelew, citing "Update of 1812 Pensions," 1992: "Served with G. C. Brandon's & Quinn's companies, Miss. Militia. Lived in Copiah County, Miss."

1815 Petition; Lawrence Co., MS: Richard Buckalew signed a petition to Congress by citizens of Marion & Lawrence Cos., MS.

1854, 4 Sep; Copiah Co., MS; Pine Bluff Baptist Church Minutes: Richard Buckallo who has been excluded from Hepezibak (?Hepzibah) Church was reinstated. Jackson, MS, Archives.

1858, 4 Jan; Copiah Co., MS, Deed: S.S. ?Stames, executor of the will of Stephen J. Allen, deceased, to Richard Buckalow. At a term of the Probate Court on the 3rd Mon. in Oct 1857. It was decreed the executor should sell on credit of 12 mons., the land known as 16th ?action, the SE 1/4 of Sec. 9; the E 1/2 of the _W 1/4 of the SE 1/4 of Sec. 17; all in T ?10, R 3W, on the waters of White Oak Creek. Buckaloo was the highest bidder at the sale on 21 Dec. 1857, and made bond with John Farth___ as his part for payment of the $74. Ack. 16 Jan 1868 by the executor. Transcribed Deed Book P, p. 44.

1869, 20 Mar; Copiah Co., MS, Deed: ... and wife, Sarah, to W. E. Lewis, for $400, 100 acres of land - 20 acres on the E side of the SE 1/4 of the SW 1/4; 20 acres on teh W side of the SW 1/4 of the SE 1/4; 20 acres on the W side of the NW 1/4 of the SE 1/4; and the S ___ of the NE 1/4 in Sec. 17, T2, R 3W. Recorded 12 July 1869.

1870, 18 Feb; Copiah Co., MS, Deed: ... and wife, Sarah, of Copiah Co., to Eli Graves, for $160 - the E 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of Sec 17, T2, R 3W. Recorded 31 May 1870.

1871, 17 June; Copiah Co., MS War of 1812 Pension Application: Served in Capt. Gerard Brandon's Co. from MS from Sep. 21, 1812 to Mar 20, 1813. Lived at Pine Bluff, Copiah, Co., MS. Age was 83. Married Sarah Anderson in Liberty, MS, Amite Co., Oct. 28, 1815. Marched to Washington, MS from Baton Rouge with Claiborn's Brigade, Wood's Regiment. He had actually enlisted at Tangipahoa, Pike Co. on Sep 11, 1812. Witnesses were Richard Lee and Daniel McSai__(?).

1878, 25 Nov; Copiah Co., MS, Deed: ... and Sarah Buckalew to ?Alice ?E. Strong for $100, 40 acres -- the NE 1/4 of the SW 1/2 of Sec 21, T2, R 3W. Recorded 11 Feb 1879.

1881, 1 Feb; Copiah Co., MS, Deed: .. and Sarahann Buckalew to Ervin Lewis for $100, 20 acres -- the E 1/2 of the NW 1/4 of the SE 1/4 of Sec. 17, T2, R 3W. Recorded 6 Dec 1881.

1882, 18 Sep; Copiah Co., MS, Deed: ... to J.B. Strong for $100 -- the NW 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of Sec. 20; and the E 1/2 of the SW 1/4 of the SE 1/4 of Sec 17, T2, R 3W. Recorded 11 Dec 1883.

1883, 1 Jan, Copiah Co., MS, War of 1812 Pension List: Richard Buckalloo, Hazlehurst P>O., was pensioned as a survivor of the war. The date of his original allowance was Feb 1872, and he received $8 monthly. Cert. #12461. From "List of Pensioners on the Roll, Jan 1, 1883," Vol. 5, p. 241, per Wm. Dobbins.

1887, July 12; Reapplication for War of 1812 Pension: "Richard Buckalloo says he is 103 years old." George W. Buckaloo, age 45, farmer and only living son of pensioner and youngest child is mentioned.

Frederick Jackson "Jack" Buckelew reported that John Pierce said that it appears that a Justice of Peace, Gilbert P. Lowe, "mismanaged Richard's" money, and there are documents on file involving Thos. J. Hargrove, Sheriff, and Simon J. Ramsey, Mayor of Hazelhurst, in support of Richard and son George. .

On 28 December 1815 when Richard was 28, he married Sarah Ann Anderson, in Liberty, Amite Co., MS. Born in 1796 in SC. Sarah Ann died in Copiah Co., MS, about 1885; she was 89.

They had the following children:
