Tidbits from the history of our ancestors. # 10

<h2>1681 Census, Seigneurie of Sorel</h2><h5><FONT COLOR="#0099FF">last update : February 28, 1998</FONT></h5>
A nominative census of Canada was completed on November 14, 1681 by Mr. Duchesneau. It is reproduced on microfilm reel C-2474 of the National Archives of Canada. I have drawn on the following pages what it looks like for the Seigneurie of Sorel. On the original, the headings and lines are printed types, while the individual entries are handwritten. The census is six pages long for Saurel. The handwriting is very clear and easy to read; nevertheless a few authors, notably Couillard-Després and A.S.White have introduced a few errors in their respective reproduction of the census and these have been republished many times unfortunately.
Each page is reproduced separately and can be accessed sequentially by clicking the arrow at the bottom of this page.Below each reproduction of the census page, I have added a table showing the corresponding entries of Jetté, if a clarification was deemed necessary.
I was particularly interested in the relationship with the Carignan-Salières Regiment. You will note that many men, not reported by Jetté as being in RCS, could have been in RCS, time wise, particularly those for whom there are no record in existence prior to this census.
