1681 Census, Seigneuries of Villemur and d'Autray- page 1 of 4

last update : March 14, 1998

A nominative census of Canada was completed on November 14, 1681 by Mr. Duchesneau. It is reproduced on microfilm reel C-2474 of the National Archives of Canada. I have drawn below what it looks like for the Seigneurie of Villemur and the Seigneurie of d'Autray. These two seigneuries later became the Seigneurie of Berthier-en-Haut, later known as Berthierville. On the original, the headings and lines are printed types, while the individual entries are handwritten. The census is two and a half pages long for Villemur and slightly more than a page for d'Autray. The handwriting is very clear and easy to read.
Each page is reproduced separately and can be accessed sequentially by clicking the arrow at the bottom of this page.Below each reproduction of the census page, I have added a table showing the corresponding entries of Jetté, if a clarification was deemed necessary.
I was particularly interested in the relationship with the Carignan-Salières Regiment. You will note that many men, not reported by Jetté as being in RCS, could have been in RCS, time wise, particularly those for whom there are no record in existence prior to this census.
