OGLE & GUNSIGHT CAVES

Ogle Cave is located in Carlsbad Caverns National Park. The entrance to the cave is a 180-foot rappel into the bottom of a large pit. There is less than 2000 feet of surveyed passage in the cave and ceiling heights reach upward to over 100 feet. The Bicentennial Column is found in the center of the cave. It stands 110 feet in height and is the second-tallest free standing column in the world. During the late 1800's and early 1900's, the cave was used to mine bat guano. There are still many relics and cables found in the cave from the guano operations.

Gunsight Cave is located in Lincoln National Forest. Access to the cave is via a long hike and rugged terrain. The entrance to Gunsight Cave is 175 feet high and 125 feet across. The cave is not very extensive and consists of a large chamber extending approximately 800 feet in from the entrance with several smaller alcoves along it. The cave is called Gunsight Cave because a large pinnacle of rock stands outside the entrance and from a distance it resembles the gunsight on a rifle.ENJOY THE PHOTOS!
