EQUIPMENT

Malts

In grain or extract form, this is what gives your brew its distinctive flavor. The aroma you smell when brewing comes from the malt. The strength of your brew is related to the amount of malt

1 - four gallon pot (stainless steel is best)

Hops

These dried flowers are used to provide varying types of bitterness that balance the sweetness of the malt.

2 - five gallon plastic buckets, food-grade (or one can be a 6-7 gallon glass carboy

Sugar

Affects the alcohol content of the brew

1 - six feet of 3/8" inside diameter clear plastic hose

Yeast

Converts the sugar during fermentation into alcohol and carbon dioxide; powder or liquid form

1 - fermentation lock

Misc. Additives

Assorted ingredients that add additional flavors or treatments.

1 - rubber stopper with hole for fermentation lock

Water

If it tastes good, then you can use it to brew with.

1 - three feet of 3/8" inside diameter clear plastic hose

Corn Sugar

Used as a primer during bottling.

1 - plastic funnel

1 - thermometer

1 - hydrometer

1 - bottle capper

75 - twelve ounce returnable brown beer bottles (no screw-on tops)

1 - bottle of household bleach
