KLEMMER, Bertha H (Kazmierczak)
Bertha H. Klemmer, 74, died of natural causes Monday at 10:45 a.m. in her residence at 755 Georgia Ave., Riverview Park. She was the wife of Norman P. Klemmer. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Esther R. (Kocher) Kazmierczak.
Klemmer was employed by Wegman's Restaurant, Muhlenberg Township, the Goodwill Fire Company, Hyde Park and several other area reataurants. She was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, Temple.
Klemmer is also survived by a daughter, Bonnie D. (Klemmer) Kleinsmith, Muhlenberg Township; and a son, William R. Heagy, Blandon. Other survivors include a sister, Jennie (Kazmierczak) Zellers, Reading; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Milkins Funeral Home Inc., Temple. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Tuckerton.

Carolyn J. Klemmer, 53, passed away peacefully Sept. 26, 1998. She was born Sept. 6, 1945 in Seattle, a daughter of Bertrum and Dulice McClellan. She is survived by her husband, Jeremy Klemmer of Langley; one son, Ryan Klemmer of Seattle; her mother, Dulice McClellan of Seattle; her twin sister, Kay Beattie of Redmond; and her brother, Joe McClellan of Kirkland. Carol graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1963. She met her husband, Jerry, at the age of 15 and they went together for eight years before getting married. Over the years they lived in California, Alaska and the Seattle area. Last year they moved to Whidbey Island where they enjoyed the slower life. Carol worked for the Fluke Corp. for 12 years in their accounting department. In her spare time she loved to garden and travel. She had a love for horses and she and her husband owned eight horses over the years, including a race horse and barrel racing horses. But her main interest was her son, Ryan, who she loved very much. Carol: Thank you for the 30 great years of marriage. When times were good you made it better, when times were down, you had the strength to hold us together and comfort me. It was a real joy when our son came into our lives. You were so proud of him. In our marriage we were partners, I had the ideas and foresight -- you had the logic and wisdom and kept me in line. I was always proud of you. Wherever we went you had a certain class. I still get a tinkle [sic] when I kiss you. Just like it was when we first met. The day will come when we will bond again. Catharine M. Klemmer, 88, formerly of New Cumberland, died Sunday in the Susquehanna Nursing Center. She was a member of Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was the widow of Edgar M. Klemmer Sr. Surviving are a son, Edgar M. Jr. of Peach Tree City, Ga.; two daughters, Doris O'Neill of Harrisburg, and Janet M. Harris of New Cumberland; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow in the Stone & Murray Funeral Home, New Cumberland. Mrs. KLEMMER is survived by her husband, Frank KLEMMER of Pouce Coupe, B.C.; and two daughters, Mrs. Iren SCHOENSTEIN of Tomslake and Mrs. Martha SIMON of Dawson Creek. Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Padden "Bette" Klemmer, 64, of 1916 Paisley Ave., Fayetteville, died Tuesday in her home.
Mrs. Klemmer was a funeral director at Reeves Funeral Home and a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church.

KLEMMER, Erida Reihirt
Erida Reichert Klemmer, the first woman chief resident at the Queen's Medical Center and an advocate for men and women with Hansen's disease, died Monday of cancer.
Erida Reichert was an advocate for those suffering from Hansen's disease. Reichert was born in San Francisco, and traveled to Honolulu every other summer with her family. She attended Katherine Delmar Burke School for Girls, the University of California and Stanford University. She graduated from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1953.
But Reichert is best known for her work as facility director and medical administrator of the Hansen's disease program within the State Department of Health, where she worked hard to destigmatize the disease, said her son, Fred Klemmer.
Dick Korsak, who knew Reichert for more than 25 years, said she was a dogmatic, thorough and honest individual.
"Her intense care for the people she took care of made her a special physician. She loved her patients so much and worked for their rights at whatever cost," said Korsak.
Along with the assistance of Island businessmen, Reichert lobbied the state to allow for more openness at Hale Mohalu and Kalaupapa for patients to travel and for family and friends to visit.
Kalaupapa postmaster Kuulei Bell said Reichert was invaluable to the people of Kalaupapa.
"We called her mommy. She always went the extra mile whenever anyone needed anything, she was such a special person," Bell said. "All of the patients really loved her."
From 1966-71, Reichert served as medical coordinator of the community studies on pesticides for the University of Hawai'i's Pacific Biomedical Research Center, and from 1967-76 she was a clinical instructor of pharmacology at the University of Hawai'i School of Medicine.
Reichert helped set up Hawai'i's disaster response system and the statewide emergency medical services system when she was chief of the emergency health branch at the State Department of Health.
And in 1979, she returned once again to become the chief of the Department of Health's Hansen's disease program, serving as physician at Hale Mohalu, making frequent trips to Kalaupapa, and directing inpatient and outpatient services for the entire program.
She published a number of papers on the treatment of leprosy in Hawai'i's multicultural community.
She is survived by her two sons, Fred Klemmer and E. Howard L. Klemmer; a sister, Susan Leet Reichert Gortner; and four grandchildren.

KLEMMER, Herbert Dr.
Dr. Herbert Klemmer, 88, Topeka, who was a staff psychologist at the Manninger Foundation before he retired in 1991, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 200d, at home.
He was born Jan. 19, 1911, in Philadelphia, and spent his early life in Trenton, N.J., where he attended high school. He received a bachelor's degree from Hastings College in Hastings, Neb.. and a medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He moved to Topeka in 1947. He was on the Menninger Foundation staff for 35 years. He held medical licenses in New Jersey, Illinois and Kansas.
He served as chairman of the Sloan Visiting Professorship Awards Committee for the Menninger School of Psychiatry in 1956. He was associate dean of the Menninger School of Psychiatry from 1956 to 1962 and served as director from 1962 to 1971.
Dr. Klemmer was a member of the nominating committee to the American Psychiatric Association in 1971-72 and served as a trustee of the association from 1973 to 1976. He was a member of the association's:ethlcs committee from 1970 to 1962 and served as chairman.
He served as a delegate from the Kansas psychiatric Society to the Assembly of the American Psychiatric Association, and was instrumental in the reorganization of the assembly.
He held the rank of major in the Army Medical Corps during World War II. After the war, he transferred to the Army Reserve and was a colonel and commanding officer of the 109th General Hospital of the Army Reserves in Topeka. He retired in 1970.
He was a member of the American Medical Association, American Geriatrics Society, Mid- Continent Psychiatric Association, Kansas branch of the American Psychiatric Association, Kansas Medical Society, Shawnee County Medical Society and the Topeka Psychoanalytic Society.
He married Jo Ann Johnson on Nov. 27, 1963, in Topeka She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Barbara Dong, Tulsa, Okla.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel at Mount Hope Mausoleum. Inurnment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Klemmer was employed as a sales associate by Footlocker in Reading and Lancaster.
He was a 1999 graduate of Reading High School, where he played varsity basketball.
He was a junior at Millersville University, where he was a student advisor and played intramural sports. Klemmer was a member of the Hopewell Mennonite Church.
He is also survived by a sister, Grace Klemmer, and three brothers; Samuel, JohnPaul and Christopher Klemmer, all at home.
Other survivors include his maternal grandfather; Herbert Erickson, Pottstown; his maternal grandmother, Geraldine Ercikson, Reading; and his paternal grandmother, Helen Klemmer, Reading.

Lorna C. Klemmer, 99, of Oshkosh passed away at the Mercy Medical Center on Thursday August 23, 2001. She was born in Oshkosh, on May 20, 1902 the daughter of William and Celina Weigert Wolff. She married John J. Klemmer in Waukegan, IL on January 22, 1923.
Lorna is survived by two sons, Jack (Phyliss) Klemmer of Sunnyvale, CA and Paul (Jacqueline) Klemmer of Appleton, WI, by four granddaughters, Susan (Randy) Peterson, Ann (William) Robisch of Manitowoc, WI, Mary (Alan) Blocher of Truckee, CA, Helen (Michael) Comperini of Appleton, WI, and by seven great grandchildren. Lorna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, and by her brothers, Melvin, Arlie, Willard, and Elward Wolff, by her two sisters, Myrtle Barkman and Nelda Faust, and by a grandson, Michael Klemmer.
Lorna's funeral will be Sunday August 26, 2001 at 1:30 PM at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Eastside with the Rev. Robert Kollath officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 11 AM until the time of the funeral service.

Mary (Rusick) Klemmer, Rutzville, Wash. Private service will be held for Mary A. (Rusick) Snodgrass Klemmer, 82, at a later date. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Klemmer, who was born in El Segundo, Calif., died Saturday. In 1934 she graduated from high school in El Segundo. she married Cecil Snodgrass in 1946, and they moved to Twisp, Wash., for a short time and then to Brewster, Wash., in 1948. Her husband died in 1971. In 1974 Mrs. Klemmer moved to Ritzville to be near her daughter. She married Stanley Klemmer in 1975. Mrs. Klemmer worked for several years in housekeeping at the Top Hat Motel. She had also worked in hospice care and taking care of elderly people in their homes. She was a member of CJ Newman American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Melvin Snodgrass of Spokane and Steve Snodgrass of Silverdale, Wash.; three daughters, Betty Sullivan of Ritzville, Shirley Groomes of Okanogan, Wash.; and Rosemary Harder fo Brewster; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Norman P. Clemmer, 69, of 755 Georgia Ave., Riverview Park, died Dec. 20 in the home of his caregiver, Loretta DeTurck, 514 Dreibelbis Mill Road, Perry Township. His wife, Bertha H. (Kazmierczack) died in February 2000.
Born in Temple, he was a son of the late John and Grace I. (Reinert) Klemmer.
He had been employed for 41 years as a furnace and tow-motor operator by NGK Metals, Tuckerton, retiring in 1983.
He was a former trustee of the United Steel Workers Union Local 2317, Reading, and a life member of the Temple and Goodwill fire Companies in Temple and Hyde Park.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, Temple.
He is survived by a daughter, Bonnie D. (Klemmer) Kleinsmith, Riverview Park; a brother, Raymond Klemmer, Columbus, Ga.; and two sisters: Martha (Klemmer) Diefenderfer, Laureldale, and Betty (Klemmer) DeVere, Wyomissing.
The is also one grandaughter.
Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Milkins Funeral Home, Inc., Temple. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Tuckerton.

Robert C. Klemmer, 59, a former Alexandria resident who was working in Germany for the last four years as a program analyst for the Department of the Army, died of a aneurysm Dec. 21 at a hospital in Heidelberg, Germany. Mr. Klemmer, a native of Pittsburgh, began his civilian career for the Army when moved to the Washington area in 1975. He graduated from Geneva College in Beaver, Pa., and served about six years in the Navy. He also served in the Navy Reserve, retiring in 1988 with the rank of commander. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Anne Klemmer of Heidelberg; two children, Gregory Klemmer and Delores Anne Klemmer, both of California; two brothers, George Klemmer of Pittsburgh and Joseph Klemmer of Woodbridge.

Vera Klemmer, 85, of Dallas, Ore., died Friday, Sept. 20, 2000 of heart failure in Salem Hospital. Vera was born Feb. 22, 1915 in Norfolk, Neb. She was raised in Nebraska, and in high school participated in the debate club and basketball, and was involved in a church building project. She was a member of the Lutheran Church, Order of Eastern Star, and volunteered in the church youth group. In 1993 she moved from Lincoln City to Dallas. Vera's husband, Theodore A. Klemmer, preceded her in death in 1994.
