Championship Game

Searsport became the Busline League Champions for the second straight year, by defeating Southern Division leader Wiscassett, 2-0, in a chilly game played in Thomaston on a neutral field. Jessie Plourde scored the first goal of the game in the first quarter on a pass from her sister Katie, by way of Kassie Reyes. Brandi Nickerson scored the other Searsport goal in the second quarter, assisted by Jessica Larrabee. But the key to the victory was Searsport's strong defense. Fullbacks Lura Carroll, Brittany Smith, Heather Hruby, Miranda Smith, Ashley Curtis and A.J. Shute, along with goalie Erica Curtis, kept Wiscassett to 8 shots, only 2 or 3 of those shots on goal. Searsport had 23 shots of their own. Searsport finished 14-1 overall, and 12-0 within the league.

Searsport 4, Camden 1
Semi-Finals
Oct. 14, 1997


Searsport sent Camden packing, as they scored a goal each quarter to defeat their semi-final opponent 4-1. Jessica Larrabee scored the first goal at the 3:34 mark in the first quarter, off a Jessie Plourde pass. Brandi Nickerson scored next, at 14:01 in the second quarter, on a pass from Jane Hall. Camden cut the lead in half as they scored late in the first half. Halfway through the third quarter, Plourde stuck the ball in the net off a shot delivered by Nickerson that deflected off the Camden goalie. Hall finished things off with a goal early in the final quarter. Erica Curtis recorded 4 saves.

Searsport 5, Rockland 0
Quarter-Finals
Oct. 10, 1997


First place Searsport hosted last place Rockland, as the Vikings outscored the Eagles 5-0. Both teams played scoreless through one quarter, before Holly Gracie connected at 12:33 remaining in the second quarter. A minute and a half later, Jessica Larrabee took and Jessie Plourde pass and booted it into the back of the net. With 1:23 remaining in the first half, Brandi Nickerson added another goal, to make it 3-0. The second half found Nickerson scoring again, making it 4-0. Then 3 minutes later, Nickerson connected for a third goal, this time on a Gracie pass. Lura Carroll, Mo Hall and Jessica Carroll combined on 7 saves for the 12-1 Searsprt Vikings. Rockland goalie Megan Dean saved 15 of Searsport's 25 shots.

Searsport 7, Mount View 0
Oct. 8, 1997


Searsport traveled to Thorndike to take on the Mount View Mustangs. Searsport scored 7 goals from 7 different players, in a shut out of the Mustangs. Jessica Larrabee scored first off a Katie Plourde pass. Holly Gracie scored next, on a pass from Jane Hall. Jessie Plourde stepped up next for the Vikings as she netted a kick from Brandi Nickerson. Holly Benjamin rounded out the first half scoring, as she was assisted by Kassi Reyes. In the second half, Kristy Raymond started things off as she put a Larrabee pass into the net. Katie Plourde was next to score, assisted by Jessica Wilson. Finally Heather Hruby booted a corner kick directly into the goal. Erica Curtis and Mo Hall combined on 4 saves for the 11-1 Vikings.

Searsport 4, Camden 1
Oct. 6, 1997


At Searsport, the Vikings beat MET of Camden, 4-1. Jessica Larrabee scored with 6:54 remaining in the first quarter to get things started for Searsport. Jessie Plourde added a tally in the second quarter to make it 2-0. Early in the third period, Plourde scored again off a perfect crossing pass from Holly Gracie. It was Camden's turn early in the fourth quarter as Lauren Whitney scored cutting it to 3-1. But Searsport wasn't finished as Brandi Nickerson put the ball in the net with less than 2 minutes to go, notching the final score, 4-1. Searsport goalie Erica Curtis stopped all 8 of Camden's shots. Camden goalkeeper Rebecca Gross had 18 saves on Searsport's 34 shots. Searsport improves to 10-1, with a 9-0 league record.

Bucksport 1, Searsport 0
Oct. 4, 1997


Searsport's 26 game winning streak came to an end as Bucksport defeated the Vikings, 1-0. Elissa Gordon scored the only goal of the game for Bucksport early in the second quarter. Searsport outshot the Golden Bucks 23-16. Searsport goalie Erica Curtis had 10 saves.

Searsport 6, Rockland 0
Oct. 2, 1997


At Rockland, Searsport defeated the Tigers 6-0, as five players scored the six goals, making it a very balanced attack for the 9-0 Vikings. Brandi Nickerson scored the first goal of the game early in the first quarter. Holly Gracie netted another Searsport goal a few minutes later. Jessie Plourde trapped the ball into the net late in the first quarter off a perfect crossing pass from Nickerson. Jane Hall scored a long shot in the second quarter, giving Searsport a 4-0 halftime lead. In the third quarter, it was Nickerson again with a goal. In the final quarter, Janelle Hamilton scored her first netter of the year on a penalty shot, making the score 6-0. Searsport outshot Rockland 30-6. Erica Curtis and Jessica Carroll combined on 6 saves for the Vikings.

Searsport 5, Thomaston 1
Sept. 24, 1997


Jessica Larrabee scored 3 goals for 8-0 Searsport as they overwhelmed Thomaston 5-1 at home. Larrabee's first goal came early in the first quarter off a rebound. Her second goal came off a Holly Gracie centering pass. Gracie got into the act in the second quarter, making it 3-0. Shortly after that, the Thomaston coach was ejected from the game after storming onto the field and pushing the referee with his body. A parent took over the coaching duties, as the coach was forced to wait on the bus. Early in the third, Larrabee connected again, this time being assisted by Kristy Raymond. Thomaston's Stambaugh scored later in the third quarter on a pass from Petroski. In the final quarter, Brandi Nickerson's shot deflected off a Thomaston defender and went in, making the score 5-1, which is how things ended.

Searsport 7, D. R. Gaul 1
Sept. 22, 1997


In Union, the Searsport Lady Vikings routed D.R.Gaul 7-1. Jessica Larrabee led the Searsport scorers with 3 goals, including the first goal of the game, which came on a Holy Gracie assist. Brandi Nickerson, Gracie, Jane Hall, and Sarah Cook also scored goals for 7-0 Searsport. Erica Curtis and Maureen Hall had 3 saves in the goal for Searsport.

Searsport 8, Mount View 0
Sept. 20, 1997


On another rain soaked Saturday, the Vikings of Searsport braved the weather to outscore Mount View of Thorndike, 8-0. Searsport's Jessie Plourde scored 2 minutes into the game on the end of a beautiful series of passes that ended with a pass from Jessica Larrabee to Brandi Nickerson to Plourde. Larrabee scored later in the first quarter on a centering pass from wing Holly Gracie. The second quarter belonged to Kristy Raymond, as she scored 3 times, her first goals of the season. Early in the third, Lucienne Merrill scored her first goal of the year as she booted it into the corner of the net. Nickerson belted the ball past the Mt. View goalie also in the third. In the last quarter, Gracie stuffed the ball in the net, after the Mount view goalie bobbled a shot. Searsport outshot Mount View 56-4 in a very lopsided game. Erica Curtis recorded 3 saves, including a diving save late in the game that preserved the shut out.

Searsport 1, MET 0
Sept. 18, 1997


At Camden, Searsport put their winning streak on the line and were not disappointed as they defeated MET of Camden 1-0. The games only goal came just over 4 minutes into the second quarter, as Holly Gracie converted on a great pass from Jessie Plourde. In all, Searsport outshot MET 29-4. Searsport goalie Erica Curtis shut out Camden with 3 saves.

Searsport 6, Rockland 2
Sept. 16, 1997


Searsport beat Rockland by a score of 6-2. Jessica Larrabee scored the first 2 goals of the game in the first quarter, one of them on a pass from Brandi Nickerson. Jessie Plourde also scored in the first quarter on a pass from Nickerson. In the second quarter, Rockland player Heather Storks got Rockland on the scoreboard, making it 3-1, but Holly Gracie responded for Searsport, with a goal of her own, making it 4-1. In the third quarter, Nickerson got into the act and netted a shot, making it 5-1. Two minutes later, plourde scored again, bringing the score to 6-1. In the fourth quarter, Rockland's Storks was able to find the net once more, making the final score 6-2. Searsport outshot there opponent 30-6.

Searsport 7, Belfast 0
Sept. 13, 1997


Searsport defeated Belfast 7-0, in a Saturday morning game in the rain. Both Jessie Plourde and Brandi Nickerson scored three goals each, and Holly Gracie scored a goal, as Searsport outshot Belfast 27-11. Erica Curtis had 8 saves in goal. Searsport is now 3-0. Belfast falls to 1-2.

Searsport 3, Wiscassett 0
Sept. 10, 1997


In Wiscassett, Searsport overcame a 0-0 halftime score to defeat Wiscassett, 3-0. Holly Gracie scored all three goals for the Lady Vikings. The first Gracie goal came in the third quarter, unassisted. The other two goals were scored in the fourth quarter, one assisted by Jessica Larrabee and the other assisted by Jessie Plourde. Searsport outshot Wiscassett 21-14. Searsport's Erica Curtis had 8 saves.

Searsport 3, A.D. Gray 2
Sept. 8, 1997


At Searsport, the Lady Vikings defeated A.D. Gray of Waldoboro, 3-2 in Busline League action. Searsport took the lead in the second quarter when Jessie Plourde scored with 4:21 left in the half, on a pass from Holly Gracie. Searsport scored again about two and a half minutes into the second half when Jessica Larrabee scored on a Jessie Plourde pass. Four minutes later, Jessica Larrabee scored again, this time off a long downfield pass from Lura Carroll. Erica Curtis was perfect in goal, saving 10 shots. Tiana Emmardi scored two goals in the fourth quarter for A.D. Gray off Searsport goalie Mo Hall. This was the first game of the season for both teams.
